Summary
Midorima knew he wasn’t the most approachable person. It was the main reason why he never had many friends in Teiko. And even then he was barely friends with the miracles. By the end of the year, they were basically only teammates.
So, imagine his surprise being surrounded by the people in Shutoku (mainly his team) who treated him like an equal.
That is until things started to get a little… strange after the winter cup.

He knew leaving the team means also leaving the pack, but that's part of the plan.
They merely used him as a rebound for their own talents and improvements, but that's on basketball terms. They love him outside of the court, adored him a lot.
But he was sick and tired for being treated like an object inside the court. He felt like nothing to them when in the spots of lights.
So, he thought of something.
Even if it's self-abuse, he knew his mates would suffer more.
