Work Text:

This is forever

Her eyes closed. The sound around. The atmosphere. The vibe. The people. This was a moment to be captured forever.

Ever since they were little, Bingo was always drawn to Lila. The first person in her life she can truly call her best friend. And as they grew older… something more.

Crushes were a foreign concept to her, but she always found her fair share of people attractive. Lila still always seemed to stand out to her, though… but for what reason? She used to often dismiss the idea of being in love with her best friend. For these feelings to suddenly come into her life was just… unusual!

But all the signs pointed to just that. And once she gathered her courage and took the risk… It was the best risk she ever took.

Throughout the years, Bingo and Lila had seen it all. From the early days of being a new couple and being all lovey-dovey within their honeymoon phase to phasing out of said phase to allow some realism into their relationship - realism in the form of arguments.

Her mother always told her - true love means seeing all sides of a person and still staying. No matter how crazy Lila drove her as a girlfriend, Bingo vowed to never leave her side. Because with her… she felt so alive. More alive than she ever felt in her life.

So the two held on, never surrendering, their love strong as ever. Then came the faithful day where she finally asked the big question… and she said yes.

Lila said yes to marrying her.

Fast forward a couple of months - countless preparations and invitations, adapting to the sudden changes, handling finances and travels, even for some who needed the support… so much stress left behind them. They barely spent time together preparing for their wedding.

It all led up to this - and it was time for their hard work to pay off.

There stood Bingo in her lovely dress, awaiting her wife-to-be, as chatter ran through the crowd, and nerves raced through her system.

Bless her family, they were all so supportive, and so happy for the both of them. She still smiled at the memory of her dad bursting into happy tears when she heard that she and Lila are getting married.

Bluey was more than happy to have a sister-in-law, and so was Lila’s little brother. Both rascals in their lives needed someone else to lean on, after all.

A familiar piano melody started playing. Everyone stood up.

And there she was, with her dad.

Lila Maltese.

No word could describe what she was feeling right now. The woman that stood before her, closing in on her, would be her wife in a matter of minutes. Everything felt tuned out as she had her eyes on Lila, even the whole speech from the marriage officiant was mostly forgotten by the red heeler.

Lila. That was all she saw, all she heard, all she thought about.

All the stories and secrets they shared throughout the years of knowing each other, from the very start on that fateful day in kindy, her sweet laughter as she played her wind-up game, the adventures and misadventures in their high school years, the study dates and all the events leading up to their graduation…

Their first jobs… their first apartment… the proposal…

She felt so much love for this woman.

“Bingo Heeler, do you take Lila Maltese as your lawfully wedded wife, to live together in the covenant of matrimony? Will you love her, comfort her, honor and keep her, in sickness and in health, and forsaking all others, keep you only unto her, for the rest of your life?”

“I do.”

“I do.”

She was on the verge of tears. And Bingo was too. Their vows were exchanged and the rings were on their fingers. She had been waiting her whole life to say and hear those two words in particular. And for the words about to come from the officiant’s mouth.

“By the power vested in me, I hereby announce you - wife and wife. You may kiss the bride.”

Everything led up to this. They held on, they never surrendered… their love was stronger than anything they ever felt in their lives.

Cheers erupted as the two kissed, establishing their status as wives.

Establishing a love that would be forever.
