Work Text:

“Hey Kou,” Teru walks into his younger brother's room.

“Yeah what’s up nii-chan?” The younger Minamoto sits up in his bed.

“Just wondering if you wanted to make some cookies with me.”

Kou’s eyes lit up excited at his brother’s suggestion, “Yeah of course!” Maybe his decision was a bit more influenced by the fact Teru might burn down the kitchen if he was left alone for too long.

Both of the Minamoto’s made their way into the kitchen as Kou gathered around the cooking utensils and materials, “So Valentine's day cookies?”

Teru nodded as he plugged in the mixer and began to preheat the oven.

“So who are you gonna give them too?” Kou smirked, happy just to be able to spend more time with his older brother, but also interested in who Teru could be in love with.

“Oh I was just gonna make them for everyone in the student council.” Teru easily smiled, which occasionally made it a bit more frustrating when the opposite person was trying to tell if he was lying or not.

Truth was Teru did hate lying to Kou, he really was only planning on giving them to one person.

Roughly an hour passed and through the troubles Teru caused (and made), the cookies were fresh and complete. Kou even had a great idea to dye them in honor of the holiday. Teru on the other hand almost messed up the treat multiple times; first preheating the oven to the wrong temperature, second almost adding too much sugar, third trying to add another color into the cookies. In short the older boy really shouldn’t be allowed in the kitchen..but then how could he learn?

Luckily Teru was good at one thing, making small bags to place the cookies inside. Kou and Teru split the batch in half and placed the chocolate chip cookies into small pink bags tied shut with a small white ribbon.

Shortly after, both the Minamoto’s left off to bed; falling asleep as they prepared themselves for the next day at school.

In the morning Teru was already off to a bad start; he had woken up late and barely made it to the student council meeting on time. Though it looks like a certain someone didn’t even bother to attend. The vice-president, Aoi had promised to always be on time and never not show up without some kind of warning. And of course it had to be today of all days.

Teru should have known better than to expect everything to go how he wanted; he planned everything out so he would be able to hand Akane his Valentines cookies shortly after the meeting, but that’d kind of hard when he doesn’t even show up.

Throughout the day Teru had been keeping his eyes open for the supernatural, but that slowly became harder as people surrounded the student council president with countless gifts and confessions.

After a while Teru finally got a moment of silence as he made his way towards the back of the school hoping to get a minute to catch his breath.

“Ao-chan please accept these chocolates I made!”

Teru peaked around the corner to find a certain supernatural handing another girl a cutely wrapped box of chocolates. The boy was almost bowing to the plum haired girl.

The older boy glanced at his own hands, his fingers wrapped around the pink bag of cookies that perfectly fit in the palm of his hand. He looked back up at the scene placed in front of him, slightly wishing Akane would say no, but no matter how much he hoped and wished nothing could ever follow the path he wanted them to.

Akane accepted the box as a small smile burned across her cheeks, “Thank you so much..”

There was a set of words completely unspoken, but were as clear as day for anyone who stumbled across this moment. A person like Teru. Here he was nothing more than a viewer in his own story, but who’s to say it was ever really his. Teru could never be the main character; not like he can’t even get the boy he likes to fall for him.

As Teru stepped away, not wanting to intrude he glanced back for a moment more, seeing the two students pressed against each other in a simple kiss.

The older boy lightly bit the inside of his mouth as he pushed back any thoughts that tried to flood through his brain.

He still had things for student council that needed to be done, and now's a better time than ever to do the assignments that were handed off to him.

Back in the student council Teru had been printing papers and laying them neatly into piles.

“Oh Teru you're still here?” Another student walked into the room his eyes landing on a small bag of cookies sitting in his seat. “What’s this?” The younger boy picked up the bag.

“Cookies, I made some for everyone in the student council and handed them out after the meeting, but someone didn’t show up.” Teru coldly chuckled.

“Oh shit that was today?! Sorry, I was a bit distracted and forgot…”

“Well next time double check,” Teru sighed, not having much energy to even be able to stay upset at the other boy. “Well how did everything go with Akane-san?” The older boy managed a small smile to show that he knew what happened.

“Wait, how did you know about that?!”

“I just happened to stumble across you two making out behind the school.” Teru smirked as Aoi’s face grew redder at the mention of what had occurred a few minutes before.

“Anyways feel free to take those, I mean they were meant to be yours anyways.” Teru finished up placing the papers in piles before packing up to leave.

“Oh thanks…But I didn’t make you anything. Honestly I’m surprised you got me anything at all.” Aoi let out a relieved chuckle.

“Don’t be so surprised. I made them for everyone in the student council.” Teru pushed past the younger boy, “have fun with your girlfriend.” The word sounded rough against his tongue, like eating sandpaper.

“Night Teru, and uhm thank you?” Aoi seemed more confused than anything else; which didn’t make complete sense to Minamoto in the slightest, but oh well. Aoi wasn’t his problem anymore; even if he wished he was.
