The Name Game

Summary:

They can't just call them mini me's forever, right? Surely they can come up with something better for their lovely little lookalikes.

But what?

Notes:

For the unaware or those that forgot, there's a bunch of cute pieces previously in this series! But for this one, all you need to know is Caine recently brought a couple of toy versions of the characters to life as a surprise gift. They've more or less been adopted as their children.

It's been awhile, my apologies! I've had a bunch of ideas for these two, both with and without the minis, but I haven't had much opportunity for writing at ALL... health problems, tech problems, etc. On the bright side, I only just recently made steps fixing them with surgery and computer replacements! On the downside, it'll still take time to recover, get back in the headspace, yadda yadda... I still have plenty of ideas, typically coming up with at least one per new episode, but I can't promise anything new anytime soon.

But how could I resist doing something for them for Valentine's Day? I've had this idea for a long while, and it was short, so I figured I could fit it in. I might be pretty rusty, but hey, I hope you can all enjoy regardless. Happy Valentine's Day!

Work Text:

One letter block, then another. Bit by bit, the pile grew.

The newfound family of four was clustered in the corner of Pomni’s room, stacking little wooden alphabet cubes. Ragatha, laying on her side, yet still able to easily pick up and place their construction materials. Pomni, sitting by her with legs crossed. And the newest members, the ones that officially made it a ‘family’... their little cloth doppelgangers, the cloth dolls of them Caine had brought to life. Their minis alternated between watching them work and placing blocks themselves, having to carry them around like crates.

After a while’s work, they'd all made a quaint and colorful little structure. A squat house with a few rooms within, and some crude furniture. “You know, they already have a place to stay,” Pomni pointed out. She tipped her head towards the fancy dollhouse their minis came packaged in.

Ragatha giggled and shrugged. “Well, this can be their vacation house. Isn't that right, Mini Me? Mini Pomni?”

The two dolls cheered silently, (kind of) voicing their opinion. Ragatha and Pomni smiled, watching them bounce. They were always so full of energy.

After a moment, the toys got back to work, pushing blocks into the backyard so they could make themselves a pool. While they worked, Ragatha murmured something to her girlfriend. “We can't just call them mini me's forever. You know?" Emphasis on forever .

She had a point. The toys might look like them, but they WEREN’T them. Plus, their names didn't exactly roll off the tongue. "Yeah, I guess you're right. But what do we call them then?"

Ragatha thought it over awhile, scratching her chin. "She’s a mini me. A mini Ragatha.” A certain moniker she was used to being called came to mind. “A… Maggy."

"Maggy?"

"Yeah! It's combining Mini and Raggy. Maggy.”

Pomni couldn't help but grin, seeing her affectionate nickname for Ragatha be part of the naming process. It worked out pretty well, even if she was basically just putting an M in front of her name.

But would the same work for her? “I guess for me, that’d make… Momni?”

“Pfft. You’re a Mom-ni, now.”

“Alright, fine! How about, uh…” Pomni wagged her finger in the air, thinking hard, looking like she was selecting names off a shelf. “Minnie? You know, like… mini.”

“You reached hard for that one, huh?” Pomni poked her, and Ragatha smirked back. “I’m just teasing. It’s a pretty name… from a pretty girl.”

Pomni blushed. Quick to divert attention from the heat in her face, she reached towards the building. “W-well… we should ask them what they think, right?”

She removed some blocks from the top of the stack. When the dolls noticed, they squabbled a bit, thinking their back-up house was being damaged. Their annoyance turned to curiosity when Pomni started lining up the blocks in front of them.

She arranged two rows near them. The teeny Ragatha’s spelled out ‘Maggy’. The other one read ‘Minnie’.

“What do you think?” Pomni asked, leaning back again. “You know… us calling you that?”

The toys studied the blocks like paintings, slowly piecing together their meanings. Once they figured it out, they jumped with joy. They pointed frantically between themselves and the blocks, seemingly enjoying their new names.

So it was settled. Ragatha reached down, letting the little ones shake her hand with both of theirs and seal the deal. “We’re glad you like them… Minnie and Maggy.”

And so, from that moment on, they truly were their own separate people.

Their kids.
