The sound of the rain softly hitting her umbrella snapped her out of her thoughts. Oracle sighed, walking down the dreary street. She stuck out like a sore thumb compared to the occasional stranger.
Lady Oracle Florence did not belong in this part of the town. She should’ve turned back and went back to her house, with all of her luxury things and massive room. But truth be told, she liked this town, despite how run down and dark it was.
Back at home, there were too many rules, her parents were ridiculously strict and it was a miracle they even let her go on these walks. They always go “oh that’s were all the dirty poor people live” but Oracle could not give a care in the world. It certainly had more life than her home. It had a nice vibe.
She stumbled a bit as she bumped into someone, who gave her an icy glare. “Watch where you’re going, bitch,” he spat. Oracle turned around, raising an eyebrow.
“Sorry man, I didn’t see you there,” she replied, with a slight twinge of sarcasm. Okay, some people in this town are really rude. But at least they’re direct about it. At least they don’t wait until they think she's not listening and talk shit behind her back.
Oracle sighed. These past few weeks have been hard for her. Father was a little bearable, but her mother, oh her mother, couldn't stand her sometimes. When she wasn’t doing tasks, Oracle would wander her room for a bit, but she didn't like how quiet and empty it was.
Oracle had to be honest. She was bored and lonely at home.
She didn’t have many genuine friends, the girls her mother invited over didn’t count, they didn’t like her and she didn’t like them. She had Sol, who she was really close to and was actually nice, but he was on tour most of the time, so she couldn’t speak to him much.
She stopped walking, not really in the mood to explore the city anymore. That’s what dwelling on stuff gets her. She shook her head and turned around to walk back home.
Someone ran past her, excited for something, and she turned around quickly and ran back up to her. She had a drink in one hand and was practically buzzing with excitement.
“Hey! You gonna watch the fighting game today?” she asked loudly. Oracle jumped back, a little concerned, but curious.
“Um, I don’t know? I don’t know what that is-?” Oracle spluttered. The woman looked at her like she just grew two heads. She took a long slurp of her drink before continuing.
“It’s like, the coolest thing ever. All these people with cool names fight each other, and whichever one does the best wins! There’s like, no rules either, so they can do some CRAZY shit in the fighting ring. My girlfriend and I were gonna watch it today but she can’t make it and-”
She took a deep breath, sipped her drink again and composed herself. “So? You comin’? Or not your thing?”
Oracle pondered for a moment. She’d heard of the fighting games before, she’d seen posters of it. But she’d never actually seen one happen. With a shrug, Oracle followed the hyper woman. She beamed at her.
“What’s your name, by the way?” she asked.
“Oh, Oracle. Lady Oracle.”
“Fancy. I’m Gwen. Nice to meet ya! Cmon, it’s right this way!”
