    “Some creep was harassing Inumaki,” Yuuta explains dismissively as he takes a bit longer to get comfortable. Those long legs of his don’t fit in the back seat as well as they used to. Toge tries his very hardest not to stare at them. “I was just protecting him from any other advances.”

    Protection. Right. That’s all it was, anyways.

    Toge nods as he turns his head towards Maki, whose eyes are now fixed on Yuuta. She can see over Toge’s head with ease, and she’s staring hard, quite pointedly, without speaking. Several seconds pass before she does break the silence. “Right.” It’s all she says before turning to face forward again with what looks like a mischievous grin on her face that Toge wishes she would wipe off.

    They aren’t dating. They never will be.
