Work Text:

“Embrace bewilderment, for he is your most faithful teacher.”

Leonard McCoy leans back against the wall, a hand pressed to his forehead, trying to remind himself that he’s in control. He’s always in control. So why is he struggling to keep his composure when Spock's lips are claiming his in a kiss that feels like the universe itself is collapsing around him?

It’s not that McCoy is unfamiliar with passionate moments—he’s had his share of heated exchanges, after all. But this? This is different. Spock's lips are urgent, demanding, and McCoy can’t help but feel as though the Vulcan is trying to consume him. He’s powerless against it, his body locked in place, unable to escape, and for the first time in a long while, McCoy feels like he's the one who’s out of his depth.

Spock’s hands move to his shoulders, fingers pressing into the muscle with precise pressure, sending jolts of electricity through McCoy’s body. His heart hammers in his chest, and for a split second, he wonders how the hell he ended up here. A few months ago, none of this would have even been a possibility. Spock and Jim had been skirting around each other, subtle in their advances, careful not to overstep, and McCoy had spent too many nights tossing and turning, trying to figure out if he was just imagining the way Jim would look at him with that half-smile, or how Spock’s gaze would linger a little longer than necessary.

And then, it happened. No big dramatic confession. Just a look from Spock, a lingering hand from Jim, and suddenly, McCoy was trapped in this whirlwind of emotions he had never anticipated.

"Jim!..." McCoy manages to gasp, his breath coming out in a sharp exhale, but it sounds more like a plea than a command. His mind is racing—his instincts screaming that he should do something to regain control, to stop this before it goes any further.

But Jim isn’t letting him go anywhere. His hand wraps around McCoy’s wrist, pulling him closer, fingers curling around McCoy’s skin as if he’s trying to anchor him in place. It’s warm, comforting, and yet, McCoy can't help but feel like the weight of everything is pressing down on him. He’s not sure if it’s the heat of Spock’s kiss or the intensity of Jim’s gaze, but his head is spinning. They’re both here, in this moment, with him, and everything inside McCoy screams that this is not right—that he’s out of his depth. But then, Jim brushes his thumb against the back of McCoy’s hand, and the warmth of it floods through him like a shot of whiskey. Damn it, this isn’t fair!

Spock pulls back just enough to let McCoy catch his breath. His expression is almost too calm for someone who’s just kissed him senseless. There’s a flicker of something—desire, maybe?—in those dark eyes, and McCoy can’t decide if he’s relieved or completely wrecked by it. Spock’s brow furrows ever so slightly, an almost imperceptible gesture, but it doesn’t escape McCoy’s notice. The Vulcan’s eyes soften, though just barely.

"Leonard," Spock murmurs, his voice lower than usual, the usual controlled tone edged with something unfamiliar. "You are... quite stubborn."

McCoy grins, despite himself, but it feels a little tight, a little forced. "You’ve got a hell of a way of showing it!" he quips, shifting his weight, trying to find some space to breathe. His chest is still rising and falling in shallow breaths, his pulse racing in ways he can't control.

Jim’s hand still holds his, but now it’s more tender than commanding. His thumb brushes across McCoy’s knuckles, slow, careful. His gaze is intense, filled with something soft yet knowing. Jim doesn’t look away. “You’re here, Bones!” he says, a hint of a smile curling at the corner of his mouth. “You don’t have to fight it!”

McCoy scoffs, looking away, trying to hide the warmth creeping up his neck. He can’t get used to this—being here, caught between the two of them. It feels like an impossible dream. A sick part of him wonders if they’re just messing with him. Testing how far they can push before he snaps. “Oh, sure! No big deal, right?.... You two just want to kiss me until I don’t know which way is up. Nothing to fight, huh?”

Spock’s expression doesn’t change, but McCoy sees the slight tightening of his jaw. Spock might be the one leading this charge, but there’s something vulnerable about the way he’s looking at him now. It makes McCoy’s stomach turn in a way he doesn’t quite understand. “Your resistance is... noted,” Spock says, his voice low, but with a hint of something that sounds almost like amusement. “However, it is irrelevant.”

Before McCoy can form a response, Spock leans in again, lips brushing against McCoy’s with just enough pressure to make McCoy's breath catch. It’s not the same as before—it’s slower, more deliberate. As if Spock is trying to savor the moment. The heat from his mouth is overwhelming, and McCoy can’t help but let out a small moan, his body betraying him. His fingers grip at Spock’s tunic, pulling him closer, not wanting to break the connection but also feeling like his entire world is unraveling in this single, heated exchange.

Jim shifts beside them, his hand still holding McCoy’s, and now his fingers are caressing the back of McCoy’s hand, almost reverently. Jim’s thumb traces circles over his knuckles, a gesture so tender, it makes McCoy’s heart skip a beat. There’s something about Jim’s presence—how he’s there, but not pushing, simply being with him—that melts the walls McCoy’s spent years building around himself.

When Spock pulls back again, McCoy feels like he’s gasping for air. His chest is tight, his body still humming with the intensity of the kiss. Spock’s gaze flicks between him and Jim, a silent communication passing between them. Jim squeezes McCoy’s hand, his thumb moving once more in that slow, soothing motion.

McCoy’s eyes dart between them. They’re too calm. Too composed. He’s the one who’s unraveling, piece by piece. “What the hell is this, guys?” His voice cracks slightly, betraying the uncertainty running through him. “You’re... you’re both just... here? Like this?”

Jim chuckles, but there’s something almost shy about it. He’s standing so close now that McCoy can feel the heat radiating off his body. “Yeah, Bones!...” he says, his voice laced with affection. “You’re here. And we’re here. And we think we might like it if you stay....”

McCoy’s brow furrows as the words hit him. His mind is spinning, his heart trying to catch up. “This is insane!...” he mutters, shaking his head. “I don’t even know what the hell’s going on anymore.”

Spock’s hand comes up to McCoy’s face, fingers brushing against his cheek with the lightest touch. His expression softens, just for a moment, before he speaks again. “You are... complicating matters unnecessarily. We want you, Leonard. This... this is not a choice. It is simply how things are.”

Jim shifts behind him, his other hand finding McCoy’s shoulder, massaging it lightly. “We’re in this together,” he says softly, the words sinking into McCoy like a promise. “We’re not going anywhere!”

McCoy stares at them both, at the way they’re looking at him—soft, unguarded, completely there. He feels his resistance slipping away, like sand running through his fingers. His lips part, and before he can even process it, Spock’s mouth is on his again—this time more gentle, coaxing him to melt into the kiss.

When they pull back again, McCoy’s chest rises and falls in heavy breaths. He’s trembling—shaking, even. “I... I don’t know what to say.”

Jim’s grin is broad now, full of mischief. “Don’t say anything, Bones. Just... stay!”

And for the first time in what feels like forever, McCoy’s heart agrees.
