Chapter Text
Before the founding of- much less the idea of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy, there was just four friends teaching a smallish group of children from a smaller group of families on how to wield their magics and thrive.
The families that the four taught the children of and later brought to Hogwarts to continue their schooling were; Abbas, Blæc, de Bohun, Crabbe, Gouy, Longbotehom, Lugard, Luffincot, Mag Congail, Cnut, de Olifard, Peverel, Pruet, Weslai, and Yaxley. Fifteen families from which they taught between 25 to 37 children, as some reports say.
Now, some of the family names have stayed the same long after the founding of Hogwarts in 1096 AD, like the Crabbes and the Yaxleys. But others have changed drastically through the years, to the point where one wouldn't know which old name to match the new name!
Regardless, the founders made it a point to write and magically enforce a contract to make sure that those who carry the blood magic of the original fifteen, will receive free tuition until graduation. For the few who finds themselves in an apprenticeship within the school, the tuition will be covered as well. They thought it was prudent to repay the kindness and support these families gave by giving it back tenfold.
These families don't always go to Hogwarts. Some, like the Blæcs or Blacks, would go to Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. While others, like the Yaxleys, would go to The Durmstrang Institute for Magical Learning.
But there's one family who's only gone to Hogwarts. The Weslai family, more commonly known nowadays as The Weasleys. A large, protective family of redheads going back to the very first wizard, no matter if one marries a blond or a brunet. It made one Lord Gaunt back in 1312 very upset when his daughter and her children only had redheaded children. Five grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, in fact. He was pleased when his first great-great-grandson look just like him, even if the baby was a Pottere. But the man was hard to please, even if he spoiled that child until the day he died.
Just like how the Prewetts (Pruet) will always have a set of twins for the first two generations spanning out, the Weasleys will always find themselves with at least three children but no more than thirteen. With this family fact in mind, you tend to find at least a Weasley in the castle, even if you're a seventh year and the only Weasley you've met is a tiny slip of a thing starting first year.
Because of this, there's a common understanding that if you're in trouble, you just need to shout for a Weasley and they'll help you, no matter who you are. Why? Well, they know a lot of secrets of the castle and can seem to just appear before you when called, but the main reason was because of Beorn Wesli, the very first Weasley to attend Hogwarts in 1096 AD.
Beorn Wesli, a very fidgety and quick to rile up boy, started Hogwarts at 14 years old. His little sister, Ethel Wesli, started Hogwarts 2 months later than other 11 year olds, due to a severe bought of dragon pox. She was always a sickly little girl, born too small and much too early. But she grew out of it and lived until just shy of her 189th birthday.
Beorn found Ethel being threatened and shamed by an older pale hair boy named Peyton Mauvaysin. Helga Hufflepuff later found both boys, Beorn missing a tooth and sporting a black eye and Peyton with a bloody nose and missing hair, rolling in mud. You'd think mucking stables, cleaning dishes and scrubbing cauldrons would lead to friendship, right?
Unfortunately, Peyton declared a blood feud on The Major House of Weslai and Beorn reciprocated by declaring a blood feud on House Mauvaysin. Their children and the families continues the feud until its known as the Malfoy-Weasley feud.
Beorn, and then the rest of his six siblings, made it a point to stick it to Peyton and his friends by helping out anyone and everyone, no matter the consequences. Beorn's great-granddaughter, a 13 year old Maud Weasli, sent Beorn a letter detailing how she fought and won against 18 year old Ainslee Maulfays and 16 year old Kimberlyn Parkonstien after both kept demeaning and harrassing 14 year old Skylar Cnott, for being a weird bookish changeling. She didn't even know the girl. She just didn't like how everyone found something to pick on with the quiet Slytherin and decided to make it everyone's problem.
Beorn gave her a piece of gold and Skylar Cnott decided that she was going to befriend the Weasli. They ended up marrying each other, twenty odd years later.
Over the years, people forgot how it started, but have heard stories on how a Weasley has always stepped up and helped anyone who's called for their aid. One just needs to shout-
"Weasley!"
