"I knew you weren't okay and would stay that way if you kept pushing yourself. We both know you wouldn't have stopped without intervention. I saw the same things you saw, and it was obvious what that would do to you. I knew you shouldn't be alone." After another moment Spencer confesses, "I didn't want to leave you alone." His head is bowed, brown curls spilling forward, hiding his expression from Aaron's line of sight. It's as if he's admitting a failure. “I didn’t want to be left alone. I wasn’t really thinking about getting a drink." Suddenly things start to click into place.
“I’m very glad you reached out, Spencer,” Aaron says in a hushed voice, he knows making a big deal out of it will likely scare the man in his arms away. The arms around him tighten, and Aaron feels a nod against his shoulder. In relief, he simply holds Spencer a little tighter; no words needed.
After a case goes horribly wrong, Aaron Hotchner and Spencer Reid begin taking turns caring for one another. During a week off, faster than they expect, that caring turns into something much, much more.
