Work Text:

“Seungkwan..” Seungcheol sighed as she narrowed her eyes at Seungkwan before eyeing the IKEA package next to the front door.  “Another Kallax? Really?” Seungkwan sheepishly smiled and shrugged her shoulders.

“You can’t be for real. Didn’t you just get one last week?” A loud laugh stopped Seungcheol from nagging at the younger. “Unnie! You can’t possibly not know why she’s suddenly into IKEA furniture.” Soonyoung laughed harder, gripping her stomach.

“Wait Kwannie’s into IKEA furniture?” Mingyu questioned, confusion all over her face which soon morphed into shock when Seungkwan throws a pillow into her face. “Not like that you perv!”

“Okay wait. So Seungkwan’s not just into redecorating?” Seungcheol asked. “I mean obviously not. Have you seen the state of her apartment?” Jihoon scoffed. Seungkwan raised another pillow in the air, almost launching it towards Jihoon but immediately putting it down when Jihoon raised an eyebrow as if challenging the younger.

“Can we please stop talking about ittt” Seungkwan whined, wanting to move away from the topic. Soonyoung snickered before a mischievous smiled came on her face.

“Okay.. hmm how about we fix up the shelf together?”  Soonyoung gave a honey sweet smile to Seungkwan, who looked at her in shock as if she was betrayed.

“Ooh that sounds so fun!” Mingyu wiggled her shoulders in excitement, Seungcheol nodding along.

“NO!” Seungkwan shouted, volume way to loud for the small living room they were in. Jihoon recoiled in shocked before snickering. Seungcheol turned to Seungkwan in confusion.

“Why not?”

“Yea, Kwannie. Why not?” Soonyoung giggled. Seungkwan gave a stink eye to the older, before looking away.

“iwontedzocallchanivertozoit” Seungkwan mumbled, cheeks reddening.

“What?” Mingyu moved herself closer to Seungkwan so she could hear better.

“I WANTED TO CALL CHANNIE OVER TO DO IT FOR ME” Seungkwan yelled. Silence followed before laughter filled the room (courtesy of Jihoon and Soonyoung).

“Wait is Chan even good at fixing furniture up?” Seungcheol voiced. Seungkwan instantly turned to the older as if offended she would even ask such a thing.

“Channie is amazing at fixing things up, excuse me! Have you seen how confident she looks when she’s looking at the manual. And when she’s concentrating, she bites her lips and stares at the parts as if formulating a gameplan on how to build it up. And the way her arms look. Oh my gosh don’t get me started on when she wears her tank tops to fix things up. Oh! The sweat rolling down her neck…” Seungkwan sighed dreamily as she thinks of Chan, clearly off to dreamland, not even realising she just vocalised her deepest thoughts (one of her deepest thoughts but definitely not the darkest, especially if Channie is involved).

Mingyu’s eyes widened, clearly not expecting shakespearean words about Chan.

“Okay… so Seungkwan’s just buying IKEA furniture because she’s in love?” Seungcheol added.

“Yup, pretty much.”

“That’s so gay dude”

Another pillow was then launched into Mingyu once again.

“Unnie! I’m here to help!” Chan yelled as she entered Seungkwan’s apartment, leaving her shoes next to Seungkwan’s sneakers that were always parked right at the door.

“Channie! Thank god you’re here! What would I do without you?” Seungkwan exclaimed hugging the younger. “You’d probably have many unfixed furniture” Chan giggled.

“You’re right!” Seungkwan grabbed Chan’s hands pulling her into the kitchen to sit at the island. “Here, unnie made for you your favourite.” Seungkwan pushed a bowl of udon towards Chan, whose face lit up instantly when she saw the dish.

“Unnie!! You didn’t have to” Channie squealed, side hugging Seungkwan who was next to her. Her face right on Seungkwan’s chest.

“You know I’d do anything for you Channie” Seungkwan uttered, voice soft, her hand slowly rising from her side to pat Chan’s head.

Seungkwan sits on the futon as she wistfully stares at Chan pulling a long piece of wood towards the almost built up shelf. Chan grunts had Seungkwan’s brain firing off emergency signals as her mind entered territory that should be off limits whilst others (read: Chan) was still around.

Seungkwan unconsciously let out a moan which she managed to quickly cover up with a cough when she say how Chan’s arms flexed and how her fingers gripped the wooden parts. Seungkwan mentally slapped herself.

“Unnie, if you’re going to make me assemble your furniture at least help me out” Chan whined (adorably if Seungkwan could add).

“Channie, you know I’m no good at this. I’d only make it worse” Seungkwan pouted. “Plus! I’m your cheerleader! Cheering you on from the sidelines and giving you drinks”

“Then..” Chan turned to Seungkwan from where she was sitting on the floor. “Can unnie help me wipe my sweat?” Chan gave her puppy eyes and moved her face closer towards where Seungkwan was sitting. Seungkwan felt like she stopped breathing for a few moments as she stared at the younger.

“O-of course!” Seungkwan muttered quickly getting up, almost losing her balance. Taking big strides towards the younger, she bent down so her face was right in front of Chan’s. Seungkwan’s eyes flickered to Chan’s lips and then to her eyes, She stood there, just staring into her deep brown eyes.

Chan’s hum in confusion snapping Seungkwan out of her trance, before she moved to wipe away the sweat on Chan’ forehead and neck with her hands, before realising she did not take a tissue or towel. Seungkwan instantly wiped her arms, on her pants while awkwardly laughing, slowly backing away.

And then she ran into her toilet.

“Unnie?!”

“Let me get this straight.” Jisoo started, Soonyoung laughed before muttering a ‘nothing about this is straight’. “You have been buying furniture, calling Chan to fix them up for you so you can stare at her while she does it?”

“Well when you put it that way, it makes me sound pathetic.” Seungkwan moaned. “Kwan.. everyone in this room agrees that it is pathetic, no matter how I phrase it.”

“Well, i think it’s sweet!” Jun chirped. “Well yea coming from someone who thinks kidnapping someone else’s cat that Minghao said was cute in passing is romantic” Wonwoo added.

“In my defence! I thought it was a stray” Jun defended herself. “But that doesn’t mean you can just pick it up off the sidewalk!” Wonwoo retaliated.

“Guys we are straying of topic. Let’s get back to discussing Seungkwan’s inability to flirt” Jeonghan voiced out. Seungkwan’s indignified gasp could be heard but was ignored by Jeonghan.

“Just how many furniture have you purchased” Minghao questioned curiously, the first thing she’s said in a while. Seungkwan turned red at the question.

“..ten”

“TEN?!” Hansol shouted.

“You’ve bought ten different IKEA furniture in the span of three months?!” Jisoo gasped.

“What are you even getting?”

“Well.. it was the Billy bookshelf at first and then I was like oh I need another bookshelf because what if I start having my reading era and I don’t have anywhere to house my books?? Then I saw the Kallax and bought one but I had too many items that i needed to buy more.. Then it was the TV console, then the dining room table. And then the study table…”

“I don’t know if you are the stupidest person alive or just so down bad” Jeonghan sighed pitifully before turning to look at Seungcheol. “Please help your daughter. Can’t you see she’s struggling?”

“What’s this got to do with me?!”

The interrogation on Seungkwan instantly stopped when the last of their group finally arrived.

“Channie! How was work?” Soonyoung ran to her favourite, jumping on the younger’s back. “It was good! The kids are all excited for their christmas performance.” Chan trudged to the living room with Soonyoung on her back, where all the others were sitting and started hugging all of them whilst trying to shake Soonyoung off her back.

“Now that everybody is here! The party can begin!” Seungcheol excitedly shouted.

As the night got darker and everybody got drunker, Seungkwan started putting some distance between her and Chan, afraid that she would let slip her inner most thoughts on Chan.. especially since Chan was wearing a tube top that just highlighted her strong shoulders. And oh how Seungkwan was trying so hard not to drool whenever her eyes landed on Chan.

But of course Chan being Chan instantly noticed when Seungkwan was consistently running away from her making excuses, ranging from needing to take a piss to needing to remind Hansol that she needed to take a dump.

As the party was dying down, Chan had had enough of Seungkwan’s running and had managed to corner her in the hallway. Seungkwan’s legs hitting a shelf as she backed into the wall.

“Seungkwan..”

“Oh hey isn’t this a Greåker? Oh this is a nice shelf. Maybe I should get this one.” Seungkwan rambled, examining the shelf whilst stroking it, unnecessarily admiring the IKEA furniture so she could avoid eye contact with Chan.

“Unnie.. I have a gift for you” Chan sighed as she pulled out an envelop from her pocket. Seungkwan slowly opened the envelop.

“Oh.. um.” Seungkwan’s eyes widened in shock. “Wow.. thank you so much Channie.. I don’t know what to say.” Seungkwan awkwardly laughed as she pulled out the IKEA gift card. Seungkwan felt a mix of emotions that were was hard for her to pin point right then and there. Happy that Chan could come over more to fix stuff up for her, confused because was this supposed to be a touching christmas gift? Ashamed that, Seungkwan has used Chan for her own selfish reasons and Chan did not even know it. But she also kind of felt sad. Sad that Seungkwan just couldn’t be upfront about her feelings for Chan. And the only way that she could hang out with Chan alone was only if she had furniture she wanted fixed up.

“Unnie..” Chan started out. But quickly looked concerned when she saw the tears drawing in Seungkwan’s eyes. “Unnie! What’s wrong?” Chan held Seungkwan’s face examining her.

“N-nothing” Seungkwan mumbled, quickly brushing her tears away. “It’s clearly something. C’mon, i’ll listen.” Chan comforted Seungkwan, which only made the guilt bubble up in the older and more tears started forming.

“I-I’m s-sor-sorry” Seungkwan wailed. “I’m so sel-selfish. I used you” Seungkwan violently started brushing away the tears so that he could see Chan, but the tears didn’t stop.

“Y-you just looked so hot building stuff.” Seungkwan sobbed. “I j-just wanted to spend time with you and you’re the pr-prettiest girl I’ve ever m-met” Another wail came out of Seungkwan as he tried to take a deep breath as she cried. “I k-kept making you come ov-over to fix stuff. I-im so selfish” Seungkwan hiccuped.

Chan stared at the older in shock, mouth gaped. Before letting out a giggle. Seungkwan’s brain could only focus on the sweet sounding sound that escaped from Chan. Chan carefully held Seungkwan’s face, thumb wiping the tears falling down her cheeks.

“Unnie.. don’t cry. It makes me very sad to see you in tears” Seungkwan whimpered. “Unnie you’re not selfish. Truthfully… I had a feeling that you didn’t need all that furniture.” Seungkwan gasped.

“.. since when?”

“The third time you called me for the third consecutive week.. I knew that you weren’t just going to IKEA every week because you had to.” Chan shyly laughed. “Plus you kept ogling and very obviously staring at my arms and butt.”

Seungkwan instantly reddened, ashamed that her staring was not subtle at all.

“Is that why.. is that why you started wearing your tank tops?” Seungkwan mumbled. Chan let out a loud laugh upon hearing the question.

“Yes unnie. I wanted you to stare at me. I wanted your attention on me” Chan stepped closer to Seungkwan.

“My pretty, precious, sly unnie. I would build you the whole IKEA catalogue if you’d want me to.” Chan whispered, lips so close that Seungkwan could feel every breath.

“Maybe you could build unnie a bed big enough for two.” Seungkwan voiced out softly, her eyes staring into Chan’s.

“For you? Anything.” Chan leaned in, her lips closing in on Seungkwan, sharing a kiss so gentle yet so passionate.

“You’re not actually going to buy more IKEA furniture right?”

“But you already got me a gift card? What else am I supposed to buy with it?”

“Ooh! Maybe the Greåker that was in the hallway!”

“Unnie no!”
