“You should keep looking at me.” Mo Ran steps closer, dangerously so. The closer she gets, the more Chu Wanning has to tilt her head back to look her in the eye.
For some reason, Chu Wanning’s first reaction is to grow defiant, waiting for a fight. She waits for some kind of mocking, for Mo Ran to say something that will pierce her heart and bruise her ego. It may be the alcohol in her body, or the hotheadedness she’s always had deep inside her, but it doesn’t matter, because she keeps looking at Mo Ran, her body turning cold yet threatening to melt under the warmth of Mo Ran’s gaze.
Why? Chu Wanning wants to ask. Why should I keep looking at you?
She doesn’t need to voice her question. Mo Ran’s smile grows bigger, much wider as Chu Wanning feels one arm circle her waist, pulling her closer until her chest is flushed against Mo Ran’s, so close she can smell the alcohol in Mo Ran’s breath as she says, “I like the way you look at me.”
Chu Wanning struggles with many things at once: Mo Ran, her old crush, is suddenly interested in her. The downside is that she has a boyfriend. And a stalker, for some reason.
