The cold winter air made his face brighter than usual, his cheeks, nose, and right up to his ear tips had gone red. Most of the snowflakes were caught in his hair before they could land on his skin, the white layer that had begun to collect in his bangs looking silly.
You guessed the two of you were lucky to go on a walk on your own for once. Usually when one brother went out, at least one or two more would want to or at least be willing to come along. However, the days were getting colder, and sadly enough the rest of the brothers didn’t seem to care enough to freeze themselves on a walk.
Karamatsu hadn’t fought you on it, though. You proposed a stroll in the park when the thought of sitting in his stuffy room around the other five was unappealing, and since it had started snowing it must have set some sort of mood for Karamatsu that he couldn’t argue with. You could just tell from the look he had behind his sunglasses that he was excited.
“Are you sure you’re not cold?”
“I assure you, I’ve never been better,” He uncrossed and crossed his arms again over his chest, keeping that proud grin. You could tell that the sweater he wore under his leather jacket hadn’t been enough to fend off the cold, but the cold wasn’t exactly enough to beat his pride. The sweater was at least something, though. You wouldn’t let him leave the house without it. He had looked heartbroken when you threatened to stay inside if he wouldn’t tarnish his look, but it was for the best.
The sound of your sneakers and his boots crunching over snow broke between you for a few moments, you pushed your hands deeper into your pockets. A look popped up on Karamatsu’s face of realization before he fumbled with his words.
“Y-You're not cold either right? It’s pretty chilly out here, I wouldn’t want you freezing just for this lovely walk, my friend.”
“I’m okay too, try not to worry,” You mirrored Karamatsu’s smile who looked relieved. He seemed to relax more while trotting next to you after that, dropping his arms to go back into his pockets.
“It’s such a beautiful day today, some of the first snow of the season,” Karamatsu went on, you couldn’t decide whether it was towards you or a simple thought said aloud, but you hummed in acknowledgement anyways.
He seemed pleased, “The trees and life are frozen and wonderful, but...not... as wonderful as you,” Karamatsu was grinning while his hand zipped up to adjust his sunglasses, the last part had been more of an uncertain mumble, but you were left smiling anyways.
“You’re pretty cool too, Karamatsu.”
You watched him have his moment next to you, melting and almost tripping over his own two feet. It was all too easy to get him going, but you only ever did it with sincerity and when the moment striked. He caught himself with a stumble, grinning like an idiot.
“You okay?”
“Y-yes, yes,” He nodded, you offered out a hand from your pocket. You would have given him a mitten, but they had mysteriously gone missing last time you lent them to one of his brothers. He stared at your hand for a few moments, perplexed. You chuckled lightly and he looked troubled.
“My hand’s cold, could you hold it for me?”
“Oh- well of course! Since you asked,” Karamatsu straightened up, his smirk having returned proudly. He pulled his hand from his pocket and carefully took yours, he felt stiff and unsure as his arm came back down to your side. You coaxed his hand into yours a bit further, pushing your palms together. He seemed to turn an even darker shade of red than before, the dumb grin faltering just the slightest as the shyness overtook him.
“Weird.”
Karamatsu perked back up immediately, “H-huh?
“Your hand is warm,” You moved your fingers some, sneaking them between his. “You must be warmer than I thought.”
“Ah, yes my darling, it’s my naturally warm heart, even the cold weather can not defeat that,” Karamatsu put his other hand up to his chest, you gave his hand a squeeze as you laughed. He was all smiles as he went laughing along. Your voices carried through the empty, snowy park while you made the loop back around, now heading towards home.
