Work Text:
Moiraine finished running a brush through her hair, before grabbing her things. "Ready to go?"
Siuan nodded. "Pretty much," she said. "Just one thing. Can you write something down for me?"
Moiraine reached for a pen, one of her fancy calligraphy pens. "Of course, love," she said. "What do you want me to write?"
"Whatever you want," Siuan said. "Maybe a quote or something you say a lot. Or something that means a lot to you."
Moiraine raised an eyebrow, but didn't object. "Okay," she said. "Let me think about it for a second."
Siuan took Moiraine's hand in hers, squeezing it. "Take all the time you need, Mo."
Moiraine thought for a moment, tapping her pen against her lip, before uncapping it, smiling. She wrote down a couple of words, before recapping her pen and passing the paper to Siuan. "Here you go," she said. "It says, 'In this life and the next'".
Siuan smiled back, pocketing the bit of paper. The words were written in Moiraine's elegant script, the paper smelling a little like Moiraine's perfume. "Thank you, pufferfish," she said.
Moiraine looked at Siuan, her brows a little furrowed, in the most adorable way. "Why'd you want me to write something?"
Siuan went over to Moiraine, cupping her face in one hand, gently caressing her cheek with her thumb. "You'll find out soon," she said, smiling, showing the dimples in her cheeks. "Come on. Let's go?"
"Don't move," Moiraine said, sitting Siuan down on their bed. "Take your shirt off and wait here. I'll grab the ointment."
Siuan sighed, but did as she said. "I promise you it won't hurt me to move," she said, laughing. "It's just a few pinpricks, and I'm used to that. I've been getting tattoos all my life."
Moiraine shook her head. "You're sore," she said, returning with a jar of ointment. "Come on. Let me put this on you, and then we can cuddle."
Siuan turned so her back was facing Moiraine, showing off the freshly inked geometric lines on her back, the skin a little red and swollen around the edges. "Okay, love," she said. "I'm all yours."
Moiraine sat by Siuan on the bed, unscrewing the jar of ointment, before scooping out a little and warming it in her fingers. "It'll be a bit cold," she said. "But it'll warm up soon enough."
"That's okay," Siuan said. "I don't mind. You're taking such good care of me like you always do, why should I complain?"
Moiraine laughed. "Says the one who takes care of me," she said. "Here. Hold still." She leaned forward and kissed the newly inked lines on her back reverently, before gently rubbing some of the ointment into them.
"You're so beautiful," she whispered. "So beautiful and perfect." She moved lower, kissing the lines there too before adding more of the ointment. She continued massaging the ointment into Siuan's back, and Siuan smiled at the softness of her touch.
"All done," Moiraine said, pressing a final kiss to Siuan's shoulder blade and rubbing it with a smudge of ointment.
Siuan turned her head and smiled at Moiraine. "One more," she said. "I got it for you. It's round the front, so you didn't see it."
"You got one on your front too? How come I didn't see that?"
Siuan laughed. "While you were waiting in that awful line for the bathroom, I asked them to do it, so you wouldn't notice. I already had the handwriting sample you gave me, so it didn't take too long. I was going to get it with you there, but I thought I'd surprise you."
Moiraine gasped. "That's what the handwriting sample was for? And why you asked me to write you a quote?"
Siuan nodded. "I'll show you," she said, turning fully to face Moiraine. "It's right... here." She pointed to a spot under her left breast, where the words 'In this life and the next' were inked in Moiraine's handwriting, along with a heart.
Moiraine's eyes filled with tears.
"Siuan," she said, tracing along the script with a finger, "You got this for me?"
"Of course, for you."
Moiraine leaned down and kissed Siuan where the ink was, taking Siuan's hand and squeezing it. "It's beautiful," she said. "Oh, Siuan. I can't believe you got my handwriting on your skin."
"It's a part of you," Siuan said, earnestly. "A part of you that I wanted to be a part of me as well. You're my wife, Moiraine. Of course I want to have reminders of you on me."
Moiraine threw her arms around Siuan. "I love you, Siuan," she said. "And I'm so incredibly honoured that you wanted a part of me as a part of you."
"Don't mention it," Siuan said into Moiraine's hair, her fingers gently massaging the back of Moiraine's head. "I love you, Moiraine. My wife."
"Your wife," Moiraine echoed, leaning in to kiss Siuan. "I love you so much."
Siuan kissed her back, smiling. Moiraine reached for the jar of ointment and dabbed a tiny bit on Siuan's tattoo, before kissing her again.
"There we go," she said, smiling. "Now we're all done."
Siuan laughed. "All done indeed," she said. "Now get over here, so we can cuddle."
