Chloe was more of a morning person than Devon could hope to be.
It seemed like by the time he got up, she had already gone for a run, made herself breakfast, which involved a lot more cooking than breakfast should, and accessorize her outfit for the day, all while Devon was still in his pyjamas, downing either a coffee or energy drink. Sometimes both.
Which is why it came as a shocker when Devon went over to Chloe’s house that morning, and found her lying on the living room couch, still in her pajamas, and a small tub of ice cream on the coffee table.
“You’re looking…wonderful today.”
Chloe let out a hoarse cough. “Your sarcasm isn’t helping…”
“Sick?”
“Ya…something’s been going around the badminton team…just a sore throat…and it feels like I’m gonna die…”
Devon circled around the coffee table, looking inside the ice cream tub.
“No wonder, you ate this entire thing?”
“Only half of it…Mom says that ice cream helps with sore throats…”
“Pretty sure this is too much!”
Chloe buried her face in the couch pillow, moaning. ”Can you at least stay here to provide emotional support?”
“Chloe, we both know that I would be better off doing brain surgery than emotional support.”
“I mean…just stay here to watch movies? Can’t really do anything else.”
“…okay, ya, that’s doable.”
Devon went over to the shelf of DVDs, and pulled one out. It was a movie he knew Chloe had seen a million times before, she had made him watch it several times. He placed the disc in the player, and turned on the TV before sitting on the couch with Chloe.
“If I catch whatever you have, I’m coming for you.”
“I can easily outrun you.”
“Shush. I’m trying to watch the movie.”
Chloe smiled as she turned towards the TV as the opening credits began.
