Work Text:
Forever on the water, but never to sea again,
her sailing days are done now, bound and nearing her end.
Blinded by the barnacles that cling upon her hull, deafened by the city noise and the shrieks of squabbling gulls.
An engine that once roared so steady and so proud, now hums and sputters weakly, ready to give out.
She thinks of her captain, of battles long since past, of rough seas and danger, of adventure in the vast.
It was no artillery that sank her, no rust or mines below, just the agony of time and lasting peace that dealt this blow.
Forever on the water, but never to sea again,
her fierce spirit is emptied out now - a warship sleeps and dreams of a more fitting end.
