Work Text:

“What do you wish for most?”

The question bounces around in Felix's head like the little ball in a game of breakout.

He has answers, lots of them, all revolving around the girl sitting across from him–Annette; not exactly his girlfriend, but not not his girlfriend either.

To hear her sing a complicated formula like she's on Broadway, maybe. Or to dance with her when the DJ picks a cheesy classic rock song. Or maybe it's to kiss her under a streetlamp as snow falls around them one more time before they graduate.

Ingrid slams a piece of paper down in front of him, followed by Sylvain, Ashe, Mercedes, Dedue, Dimitri, and finally Annette, each looking equally triumphant.

Felix grimaces as he reads the first slip. “Sword.”

Annette holds in a giggle.

He unfolds the next. “New sword.”

Sylvain snorts.

“A new sword, money to buy a sword, sword, sword, and money to buy dinner that's not from the cafeteria.”

Ingrid points. “Dinner is Dedue!”

Dedue sighs and nods.

“And money to buy a sword is Ashe!”

Ashe scratches the back of his neck sheepishly.

“Which means sword, sword, and sword are Mercedes, Annette, and Dimitri, and new sword is Sylvain and me.” She leans back in her chair with a triumphant grin. “I get all the points this round.”

Felix probably would have been moderately annoyed, if he had been paying attention, but after hearing Annette's first hidden giggle-turned-hooting in laughter, he couldn't find it in him to curse the inane game.

Notes:

Feels like full circle writing something short and silly and coming out of left field for netteflix :)

The game they're playing is "The Game of Things" which my college friends all loved.
