The duo stumble into the room giggling, from the euphoria of finishing the 2-day fancon successfully and from being tipsy with god-knows-how-many shots they downed.
Sky leans against the wall near the entrance, eyes closed, smiling to himself. Nani sits down to remove his shoes, he looks up, eyes narrowed at Sky, trying to figure out what the other is thinking.
“Are you not going to enter?” Nani asks pausing his current actions, a pout threatening to form.
Sky nods, smiling, still in a trance, he stumbles again and falls on his ass next to Nani.
Nani laughs, leaning against the wall, watching Sky take his shoes off now.
Sky gets up first, turning around and giving the elder a hand. Nani smiles as he takes it and heaves up, wobbling on his feet.
They walk in and shrug off their jackets. Nani ambles to his fridge, “Beer?” he asks as he grabs two cans, and before Sky can answer, he throws it in his direction with no warning, “Catch!”
Sky is caught off-guad but snatches the can on reflex, a miracle when he was stumbling just a few moments ago, “why would you do that?” he whines.
Nani giggles, he hasn't stopped giggling at everything Sky does for the past couple hours at this point.
The duo simultaneously sink on the sofa, cracking open their cans while Sky reaches for the TV remote.
Nani leans forward and plucks the remote away, leaving Sky confused.
“Movie?” Sky asks pouting, he was hoping he could extend this night for a few more hours.
Nani shakes his head, “i was thinking…”, he starts softly and trails off, swinging the can in his hand and looking away.
Sky’s face fills with concern, he shifts to face the elder. He takes the remote away and places it on the table along with his own beer.
The younger then grabs Nani's hands with both of his and pulls them, urging the other to turn too. Nani complies, he would listen to Sky anyday, tipsy or not.
“You were thinking..?” Sky echoed the other’s statement from before.
What seemed like just a sip at the beginning, ended with Nani chugging his entire can. He set it on the table with a loud sigh and turned around to finally look at Sky.
“Are you okay?” Sky asked slowly, mouth agape at Nani's actions.
“Yes I'm—” Nani let out a big burp and giggled, “sorry”
Sky couldn't help but smile widely at Nani's cuteness. Hell he hasn't had a day in a long while where he didn't smile purely because of Nani and Nani alone.
Chugging all of his beer seemed to have given him enough courage, “Did you mean it today?”
“Mean what?”
“When you said you chose me?”
Sky is taken aback, “well..yes…ofcourse I meant it, why would you ask that?”
Nani's heart skipped a beat, “did not think…” he mutters, swallowing the rest of his words.
“Mhm?” Sky asks, raising his eyebrows. He tightens his hold on the other’s hands, encouraging him to speak up.
“I thought it was a random pairing” the elder chuckles, tears forming in his eyes, “did not think you would choose me as your partner willingly.”
“Oh Nani” Sky frowns in concern, loosening one of his hands to instead hold the other’s face. Palm on cheek, Sky uses his thumb to wipe the tear that spilled out of Nani's eye.
“Ofcourse I chose you, i only met you a few times before but I've seen your dramas and have heard so much from your friends.” Sky takes a deep breath, “You're precious, and so so loving, I knew it would be a privilege to work with someone like you. You're so easy to love Nani and i wanted to protect your innocence from the moment i met you.”
Nani burst into rapid tears at Sky's words, the younger shifted forward and wrapped his hands around Nani’s shoulder, whispering soft words of comfort.
They pulled away once Nani calmed down, “Thank you” he mumbled before speaking up to continue, “I heard so much about you too, your acting and your talent is not unknown in the industry, and i am repeating my words but I'm so glad and thankful to Nadao for raising you, I couldn't be more grateful for everything you do for me, you make me feel so loved”
It was Sky’s turn to tear up, “Don't do this to me” he chuckles, “I've cried enough today”
Nani smiles, holding tears back himself, he reaches out to wipe the younger's tears, one hand on his cheek and the other on his neck, thumb softly rubbing Sky’s reddening ears.
“I-I don't know if I'm supposed to say this but” Nani gathered courage
“I like you Sky, like a lot and i have feelings for you, feelings that are more than just friendship—”
He abruptly stopped himself, feeling like he went overboard. The air was silent, the words hung in the air, weighing heavy on both their shoulders. Nani bit his lower lip, his fight or flight instincts close to being activated. Should he let the words hang and wait for Sky to reply? Or should he laugh it off and pretend it was joke?
Nani's conscience chose the latter, he started removing his hand from Sky’s face, his mind racing with ways he can play this off. Right then, Sky put his hand over Nani's and made him stop, muting all of Nani's thoughts.
Nani breathed slowly, to calm himself down and possibly apologize.
“I'm sor—”
“i like you too”
“HUH?” Nani reacted on reflex, eyes widening — did he hear that right?
“I like you Nani, i've always liked you, there was obviously a reason I chose you as my partner”
Nani felt his skin flaring red with heat, flattery and embarassment mixing to paint his entire face and neck red.
Sky continued, “i chose you because I've always had a crush on you and I was hoping that we could atleast become friends one day, but when P’Tha listed you as one of my potential partners, there was no way i could deny it. It was a decision made with no hesitation.”
“Oh” is all Nani could say, the tears don't seem to be stopping today, Nani wasn't even that much of a crier for fuck’s sake.
Sky scooted even closer and pulled him back into a hug.
They stayed that way for a while, relief washing over both their faces as tears flowed — both of them had finally confessed.
When they pulled back after what seemed like ages, Nani rested his forehead against the younger's.
“Can i —can i kiss you?” Nani asked gently, hands reaching up to the other’s cheek again, stroking it softly.
Sky closed his eyes, leaning against the warmth of the other's hand as he nodded quietly.
Nani leaned slowly, hesitance still obvious in his actions. And Sky knows Nani needed assurance all the time, that you had to tell him you appreciated him, loved him, cared for him, and he's worthy of all of it, over and over again until the other believed it. And Sky would do it a thousand times over if it brought happiness to his Nani.
So he leaned in too, closing the gap of hesitancy and sealing Nani's doubts. Lips on lips, Sky's hands on Nani's waist pulling him impossibly closer, Nani's hand on Sky's neck digging and leaving bruises that Sky would later tease Nani about. This is all either of them wanted, needed, craved, and desired for over a year now.
On this night, they lay down to sleep, cuddled up under the sheets of Nani's bed, hearts racing with the exhilaration of confessions, hugs and fluttering kisses. Nani curled up further into Sky’s chest, breathing in the scent that he has become oh so familiar with in just a short time. He sighs in contentment as Sky leaves a little kiss on the top of his head. Both of them drift off to sleep, burrowed in each other's warmth, a promise of a different tomorrow waiting for them.
