Eddie exhales through his nose, still not looking at him, focused on the new card in front of him. “I’ve never had a Valentine.”
Buck stills. “Never?”
Eddie shakes his head. “No.” He says it like it’s no big deal, like it’s just a fact, but something about it doesn’t sit right with Buck.
He watches Eddie for a moment, trying to wrap his head around it. Because Eddie—Eddie, with his steady hands and careful smiles and the kind of quiet, effortless warmth that makes people want to stay—how has he never had someone look at him on Valentine’s Day and think, yeah, he should have something special?
