Work Text:
As Eddie lies in bed after everything he makes Max a playlist.
She’s lying in bed, her body broken and her mind… well, none of them know. Eddie himself hasn’t been properly awake for that long, but he doesn’t like to think about the fear that had gripped him with unrelenting force during his coma, where he’d been trapped in the nightmare of the Upside Down. It still doesn’t feel quite real to be awake and see Wayne nodding off in the visitor’s chair.
Dustin is acting as his scribe, because Eddie’s still handcuffed to the bed, which… at least it’s better than him having woken up in a windowless room in some secret government facility.
Eddie doesn’t want to think about who has agreed to record the playlist.
”Shouldn’t it be just all ”Run up that hill?” Dustin asks after writing down the second Metallica song which will surely lure Max back to the land of the wakeful.
Eddie scoffs. ”That hasn’t worked so far, has it?”
Dustin’s face screws up. ”It could!”
”Dustin…”
”Yeah… I know.”
Eddie can’t stop thinking about Max. He hasn’t been to see her, as he’s still bed bound, but he can imagine her in his minds eye and it doesn’t sit well with him. She has to wake up, Vecna doesn’t deserve to have killed her. She can’t be gone, she just can’t be, it’s not allowed.
