Apple of Our Eye

Summary:

A small, soft cry echoed through out the old temple home. It's voice was soft and new, clearly still growing in it's strength. The lungs they spilled from still small, still too young to reach a volume that would wake the household. Their soft cries were strong enough to stir who they called, however. Drawing them out of their sleep, and their attention to them.

Notes:

An idea that just struck me and refused to leave until I wrote it down. Enjoy this sweet little short story about Ken and Momo being parents.

I may write future things involving their lil bundle, who knows! For now, I hope you all have a lovely day~

Work Text:

A small, soft cry echoed through out the old temple home. It's voice was tiny and new, clearly still growing in it's strength. The lungs they spilled from still small, still too young to reach a volume that would wake the household. Their soft cries were strong enough to stir who they called, however. Drawing them out of their sleep, and their attention to them.

Ken sat up in bed, rubbing his eyes with a soft yawn, muttering softly. "I'm up, I'm up…" He swung his legs over the edge of the bed, reaching for his glasses on the night stand and slipping them on before standing and walking over to the little cot just a few steps away from the bed. With a tried smile, he gently lifted the wailing bundle out of the cot, lovingly cradling them in his arms. He rocked them gently, gently patting their side as he leaned in to kiss their forehead. "There, there….papa's here." He muttered out sweetly, gazing down at the beloved bundle in his arms.

His most perfect, precious baby girl.

"Ooh…did someone wake up?"

Ken was pulled out of his paternal haze by the voice of the other most important person in his life. He turned to smile at Momo, who was now sitting up and watching them with a smile.

"Yeah…poor little thing is crying her heart out." Ken said with a chuckle, walking over to sit back in bed beside his wife, handing over their tiny treasure.

Momo just giggled, leaning in to kiss the baby's forehead. "Jeez…Can't give mama a break, huh?" There was no malice in Momo's voice. She was just as wrapped around their little girl's finger as Ken was. Their little bundle could only whine in response, causing her parents to chuckle. "Yeah, yeah, I know what you want. You really are my kid, I swear….Gonna eat us out of house and home."

Ken watched with a loving smile as Momo brought their child to her chest, shifting her top enough to allow their wailing little one to the meal she oh so adamantly cried for. Once their little one calmed, nursing while lovingly cradled to Momo's chest, Ken shifted closer, lovingly wrapping his arms around both of them, letting his chin come to rest on his wife's shoulder.

"You did such beautiful work with her, Momo…" Ken breathed out, still in awe over everything in front of him. His beautiful little girl. His amazing, gorgeous wife who made her and brought her into the world. Who even now, continues to beautifully care for and nourish their infant with the very same body that lovingly held and made her for nine whole months. Ken couldn't help his tears as he pressed a loving kiss to Momo's shoulder. "You're amazing."

Momo chuckled, sighing softly as she gently rested her cheek against the top of her husband's head. "You've been doing a real good job too, pops." She placed a soft kiss on Ken's head. "I'm glad she looks so much like you."

Ken scoffed softly in response. "What do you mean? She's all you." He reached for their baby, petting her head ever so gently, not wanting to disturb her as she nursed.

Momo smiled, closing her eyes as she let herself lean into Ken. "Well, she's not even a month old yet, so maybe we're both just delirious from lack of sleep and don't know what she looks like, period." Her smile widened when she heard Ken stifle a snort of laughter.

"Yeah, okay, fair. She still has a LOT of growing to do before we figure out how she takes after anyone."

Momo and Ken cuddled, resting against each other in a comfortable silence. They learned quickly to take every bit of rest they could get with a new born, and resting their eyes during her feedings were always a safe bet with her. Just like her mother, she was a big eater and hardly nothing could pull her away from her meal. All except a full belly, that is. Feeling Momo shift, and hearing their baby girl's satisfied cooing was all the sign Ken needed to know that she was full, and ready to be rocked back to sleep. A task he was always way too happy to take on. Momo gently handed their newborn over, smiling warmly at the sight of Ken ever so gently cradling her to his chest. She didn't think there was any way for her to love this man even more than she already did. Yet here he is, making her fall in love with him all over again with what an amazing father he's been. Momo settled back down into their bed, watching Ken hold their girl to his chest, rubbing circles into her back as he carefully paced back and forth, taking all the care in the world to not jostle her in the slightest.

Soon, after a full belly, pats, rubs, and the warmth of her father's arms, the baby girl was out like a light. Ken sighed softly, relieved at how easy she went down. He knew they were both insanely lucky in this regard, having heard plenty of horror stories.

"Remind me to thank whatever god I need to for just how easy she's been so far. I don't want to anger them and have her turn into a hellion over night."

Ken turned to Momo, giving her a look that just screamed; "Please don't make me laugh while holding our newborn whom I JUST put back to sleep." Momo just gave him her trademark shit eating grin in response. He rolled his eyes with a smile.

"What am I gonna do with you?" He muttered out with a clearly over dramatic sigh.

Momo simply shrugged. "Deal with it, I guess. You said yes, AND put a bun in my oven. You're stuck with this, bucko."

Ken walked over to Momo's side of the bed, leaning down to meet Momo half way as she pulled herself up enough to kiss him. "I wouldn't have it any other way," he breathed out. The couple lovingly gazed at each other, only pulled out of their soft love filled haze when the baby gurgled and squirmed, thankfully all in her sleep. "Okay, okay, Papa's sorry."

Ken finally made his way back to her cot, very slowly and gently putting her back to bed. He stood beside the little cot, watching their little girl's chest rise and fall with each breath. She was so small. So amazing. And she was all theirs. He leaned over one last time, planting the gentlest of kisses to his sleeping daughter's cheek.

"We love you, Ringo. More than you'll ever know."

Silence returned to the old temple home. A loving husband curled up to his beloved wife. A great grandmother slept peacefully through the night. And the newest life to live within it's walls slept surrounded by a love so powerful that it defeated monsters, curses, and world ending catastrophes alike.

Ringo Takakura was the apple of her family's eye, a product of that powerful love. A love that promised to follow her through out her life.
