Nominative Determinism

Summary:

Han and Leia negotiate the name of their son.

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

"I've got a shortlist." Leia drummed her fingers against the datapad resting on her belly.

Han turned in his chair towards her. "How short?"

"Two names."

Han raised his eyebrows, waiting.

"Bail."

"No."

"Wow. Okay."

"It's not about your dad. Sure he was a great guy." Leia was looking at him like she was considering how worthwhile getting up to hit him would be. "Bail Solo? I mean, yeah, sounds like the kind of kid I'd make. Bail Solo. He's getting out of here—"

Leia barked out a laugh as the joke dawned on her. "and he's doing it alone!"

Notes:

"Ben" never really made sense to me as a name for Leia and Han's kid. Neither of them knew Obi-Wan for more than like, a week, and Leia has some pretty notable dead relatives to memorialize. "Bail Solo: he's getting out of here, and he's doing it alone" has been a running joke between me and my qpp for a very long time now.
