Work Text:
Joe looked up at the grey sky. Seconds later, it started to rain, so he pulled on the hoodie he had borrowed from Nicky.
Kiko: "Hi, Joe. Why don't you wait inside for Nicky? He is done in five minutes."
Joe: "Thanks, Kiko. How is your Sister doing?"
Joe followed Kiko inside, feeling happy to get out of the rain.
Kiko: "Still very pregnant, but the baby should be there next week, and I am going to spoil my Niece big time."
Joe: "That is your right as an Aunt, so enjoy it."
Kiko: "I will do that. You can sit here and wait."
Joe sat down on the chair, and Kiko returned to work. After looking around the room, Joe did what he always did whenever time moved too slowly for his taste: he investigated things with his fingers, and yes, it would usually land him in unwanted trouble.
Nicky: "I didn't know cleaning a restaurant could make you laugh, Kiko."
Kiko: "It isn't the cleaning that makes me laugh; it is your boyfriend who is on fire."
Nicky: "I don't follow. Do you mean Joe is hot?"
Kiko: "He isn't the kind of man I am looking for."
Nicky looked very confused.
Kiko: "No, what I mean is Joe decided to eat the entire bowl with Wasabi on the table, and now your boyfriend is on fire."
Nicky forgot all about the plates and searched for Joe. It didn't take Nicky long to find Joe and Mrs Sato.
Mrs Sato: "Drink all the milk, Joe. It will make you feel better."
Mrs Sato looked at Nicky.
Mrs Sato: "He will be fine again. Why don't you take him for an ice cream? It should also help."
Nicky: "I will do that once I have figured out why he decided to eat Wasabi."
Joe drank the rest of the milk.
Joe: "I thought it was Guacamole."
Nicky couldn't help it but he started to laugh. It made Joe look a bit hurt.
Nicky: "Sorry, but you should have known Mrs Sato doesn't serve Guacamole in her Sushi restaurant."
Joe: "I do know. And Mrs Sato. Please don't fire Nicky for what I did."
Mrs Sato: "I won't. And don't feel bad, Joe. You aren't the first, and you won't be the last, who thinks they can eat a bowl of Wasabi. That is why I always buy a lot of milk."
Mrs Sato poured more milk into the glass.
Nicky: "Let me finish work, and then we can leave. I will be done in less than five minutes."
Five minutes later, they left the restaurant and found a place that served ice cream. It was first after the sixth ice cream that Joe could feel the fire in his mouth starting to extinguish.
Joe: "I need to know."
Nicky raised an eyebrow.
Joe: "What do you want in return for not telling my Mom or Sister about the Wasabi? Because if they find out, I will never hear the end of it."
Nicky: "I am just glad you are still alive, but it isn't me that you should ask not to tell anyone about the Wasabi."
Joe: "What do you mean?"
Joe ate the last spoonful of ice cream before ordering another one.
Nicky: "Isn't Kiko your Sister's best friend in the world? And doesn't that mean they tell each other everything? In like everything."
Joe stopped licking the spoon and grabbed his phone.
Nicky: "We have been here for the last thirty minutes, so your Sister probably already knows everything about it."
Joe sighed as he turned his phone around so Nicky could see the screen.
Joe: "Oh, she knows, thanks to all these memes and videos she sent me."
Joe scrolled through all the messages.
Joe: "And there is also a text from my Mom. She wants to know if I am still alive."
Nicky: "Tell her she can text me for confirmation if she needs it."
Joe did it.
Joe: "And now my Mom is being funny. She asks me if I want Wasabi on my nachos tomorrow."
Nicky: "They love and care for you. Remember that."
Joe: "Yeah, I know."
Joe texted everyone back before putting his phone away so he could eat the ice cream. Nicky placed his hand on Joe's arm.
Nicky: "So, about our weekend away. I was thinking..."
In the end, Joe ended up eating ten ice cream in total before he felt his mouth was back to normal again. It was first there that Joe felt like kissing Nicky.
