A walk through the city

Summary:

A castle servant finishes their shift and walks home while people-watching.

Work Text:

You stuff the last of your things into your inventory and hurry out the door and down the hall. It was the end of your shift and your home was on the other side of the city, so you had a bit of a walk in ahead of you. Especially because you would have to make a detour to pick up a newspaper from the library, like you promised your friend.
As you turned the corner you passed Lady Ros, who was probably on her way to talk with the King. You gave her a quick bow and continued on your way, avoiding meeting the eyes of the smith that was following her. He had pretty much made himself her personal guard lately, with all the threads made against her.

Things had been crazy lately in general, ever since the arrival of the assassins guild at the harbour.

At least the moon wasn't a giant eye anymore.

In the entrance hall some of the castle guards were lined up, the captain berating them about something. His red coat swished behind him as he paced.
Just as you passed the castle gate and entered the crowds of people going about their day, Sir Tangofrags came running past you, cursing under his breath. Let's hope that wasn't anything bad.

You turned left towards the Archmage's Tower, following the street along the castle wall to the sound of the river that ran behind the buildings on the other side.
In front of the tower's steps you were almost run over by a blue haired bunny girl who hurried up the stairs, banged on the door until it was opened and wordlessly slipped past the white haired man who opened her. He simply rolled his eyes with a fond smile and gently closed the door again.

Before turning right onto the bridge towards the library, you peered down the street to the left to see the Teal Titans Guild filtering out of their headquarters, presumably after a meeting. Tubbo Underscore waved goodbye to the Guild Leader and came in your direction, probably heading back to his tavern.
Aimsy, who remained on top of the stairs, soon headed back inside. Their gray and skulk overtaken skin was a perfect example of how a reset could mess you up.
Outside a canary hybrid was waiting for Scott Smajor and they headed off together, waving to a couple passing them. The pink haired woman soon had to start tugging along her husband with a giggle, as he was successfully reiling up the canary. She smoothed out the green streak in his hair and patted his arm.
You spotted SeaPeeKay and Coy Piso heading your way and decided to keep moving before you were accused of staring.

So you hurried onwards over the bridge, arriving at the library. The newspapers were stacked up on a shelf and you took one, dropping a few coins into a bowl. The librarian/journalist/whatever-her-job-was was nowhere to be seen, but you would probably hear about it in the next issue.
With the paper you promised your friend now acquired, you headed back out again.

You crossed the bridge by the small docks and before turning to walk through the park at the city center you looked further down the street again. Outside the therapist's office stood Pangi, talking to Krowfang, a member of the Assassins guild.
Ever since the guild leader Pili fell to the Archmages hand, his guild had been left reeling. The cat had just returned from a rather long reset that was probably one of the worst examples you had seen. It must hang heavy over Pangi, who’d been so close to him.
Krowfang continued on to where MythicalSausage was waiting and they headed towards the part of town where the Assassins Guild had set up, though they swerved down a side street to avoid Harry, Tommy and Jack making a scene further down.

…Why had no one done anything about the Assassins yet? I mean, they were actually quite incompetent and only really went after the big names and not civilians, but like??? Why just let the murderers run free???

Pangi meanwhile headed off, into the same direction you were. In the park you spotted Jonnaay and Freddie Badlinu, another two assassins, sitting on a bench and bickering over a newspaper over the background of a blond bard’s singing.
As you left the park behind and waved between market stalls, you saw the pangolin turn towards the cathedral where he disappeared inside with BadBoyHalo, Hannah Rose and the disgraced Jester.
The Honey Badgers were a thinly veiled rebellion against the King, though sometimes you thought that to the rebellion's leader and the King, it was all just a game.
You’d seen them talk and they… you lacked the words, really.

Across the street from you Friar Fit was being dragged into a mechanics shop by a black haired man in blue, who was saying something about giving the bald man a bath.

Good, he needed it.

You passed a couple in purple and orange giggling as she tried to wrangle her sunset coloured tinted glasses back from him.

Continuing on your way, buildings cast shadows onto the street in the evening sun and- was that Lady Tina? In this part of town? She was with a white haired woman, who was currently attempting to keep Tina off the throat of a man that looked very similar to her. The man in turn was being held back by a spider hybrid.
Over the yelling you could hear Philza cackling about the fight, the crow a rare sight in the capital. He usually stayed on his island far away, single handedly providing the kingdom with all the wood it needed and being even more of a hermit than the people from the nearby village that specifically named themselves that.
With him were Baghera and Etoiles. The first was a member of the assassins guild that followed Phil like a duckling (very fitting, considering her species), the other a wandering warrior.

Finally, you turned the last corner, before pulling out your key to unlock your door.
