Work Text:
A trooper tumbled to the ground as he scrambled away from the snapping “jaws” of the large plant looming over him. His brothers were quick to provide backup in the form of firing several rounds into the hostile plant.
It worked, though no one knew if the local flora could feel pain. But no one got eaten, at least.
“This is what, the third planet we’ve run into plants that want to eat us?”
“I haven’t been keeping count,” another grumbled. “Why can’t these things ever develop a taste for clankers instead?”
“Knowing our luck, even if we did find metal-eating plants, they’d just go for our equipment and leave the droids alone.”
“You’re such a pessimist.”
“Three planets. All full of man-eating plants.”
“So? There’s probably lots more planets with man-eating plants out there.”
“You call that optimism?”
“You two, be quiet back there. Unless you want us to get taken by surprise by both plants and clankers.”
“Yes, sir!” they both chorused.
“I’m just saying,” the second trooper continued quietly. “It’s probably a pretty common thing, out there. Convergent evolution or something. So it’s not that we’re unlucky.”
“That’s really not as reassuring as you think it is.”
