Work Text:

"Tell me more about them, Iwa-chan!" echoed the tinny voice from Iwaizumi’s phone.

"It hasn't even been 24 hours since I last told you about them, what do you want to know now?" Iwaizumi asked, the annoyance in his voice as fake as Atsumu’s blond.

"Tell me about Shoyo and Tobio-chan again," the voice giggled. Atsumu’s jaw dropped, stunned by what he was hearing.

"I told you everything, no new developments..no wait..so apparently Bokuto had asked Hinata to–”

The slam of Iwaizumi’s office door echoed the shattering of Atsumu’s heart.

Samu had called to bug him about some shit he wanted to do for Rin. Atsumu, righteously, felt like he's the one putting most effort in Samu and Suna's relationship. Or their not-relationship , or whatever they were calling it these days.

He was walking towards the lounge where he knew the others would be, when he spotted Iwa-san. All he wanted was to snoop in, get some tea, try to convince him to hang out with them, and say bye-bye. But what he got was….

How is he gonna break this news to the rest of the team? It's going to crush them. They all adore/respect Iwa-san a lot.

Shoyo was the first to notice him as he dragged his heavy steps to the lounge.

"Atsumu-san! You're here! Tell Kageyama that he's not doing it right!" sweet Shoyo-kun called him from the foosball table.

He and Kageyama were probably having their millionth competition, though they were both really shit at foosball. Any other time, Atsumu would have preened at Shoyo-kun asking him to teach Tobio-kun something. But this isn't the time we have bigger worries, Shoyo-kun , he thought.

Everyone in the room paused what they were doing when Atsumu's excited voice, which they were prepared for, didn't fill the room.

Kiyoomi turned away from where he was talking to Wakatoshi-san, to notice the sad puppy standing at the door. He got up from his seat, and was about to move towards Atsu but paused when the other man made his way to Bokuto, who was standing behind Shoyo. He could feel Suna staring at him from the other side of the room, already accusing him of something.

"He's the brother I never had," Atsu had claimed that Bo-kun was nice and sweet unlike his twin. But they all knew he always sought comfort in the man whenever he was hit with a "I wish Samu was here." It happens more often than you would think.

Bokuto didn't hesitate to wrap his arms around Atsu, making the man look smaller than he is. Even though Kiyoomi rationally knows there's nothing happening between those two. It is not an easy sight to see your boyfriend wrapped in somebody else's beefy embrace.

Bokuto looked at Hinata, who looked at Kageyama, who looked at Komori, who looked at Suna, which prompted the man to ask, "Oi?"

The little nudge from Suna was enough to get Atsu to reply, his voice muffled by Bokuto's shoulder, "....is cheating on us."

"Huh!?" came the confused mumbling of the team. If it wasn't for Aran's hand on Suna's shoulder, Kiyoomi was certain he would be dodging a punch right now, not that the man himself was glaring any less daggers at him.

Kiyoomi noticed everyone’s eyes at him, judging his face, which was half covered in a mask, for any tell. Half of them were suspicious and others glaring, ready to lay the blame. Even Wakatoshi-san was out of his seat and turned his body to Kiyoomi. It's nice to know his boyfriend is this protected, but what the actual fuck!

"No!" he whisper-yelled. He glared right back at his team, offended at the lack of trust.

"Tsum-tsum," Bokuto nudged with concern.

"Iwaizumi Hajime is sharing our team's secrets with someone."

The weight of the words engulfed everyone, including Kuroo-san who had just arrived at the room.

"That is a serious allegation, are you sure about it." Ushijima's voice matched the gravity pulling everyone's sinking guts.

"I heard him myself," Atsu said, big fat tears showing up in those bright eyes.

"Are you sure you heard him right? Iwaizumi-san would never do such a thing." Kageyama said, having known how honorable Iwaizumi-san has been ever since middle school.

“Tsumu-chan, would you care to tell us everything,” Kuroo suggested, nodding at Bokuto towards the couch.

Atsu was sitting coddled between Bokuto and Hinata, who were trying to comfort him. Kageyama was somehow squishing himself on the three people couch, not wanting to be away from Hinata. Kuroo had taken the couch across from them, the man’s usual cheshire cat energy dwindling to a concerned frown. Ushijima was next to him, hands folded on his chest, his face as serious as ever.

Suna and Aran were sitting across from Kiyoomi, their glares diminished by their relaxed posture on the bean bag they had occupied. He wasn't comfortable in his own bean bag but he had let Komori have the empty seat near the ex-Inarizaki.

“I don't feel like this needs to be said, but this does not leave the people who have already heard it,” Kuroo warned, “Tsumu-chan you don't mind me recording our conversation?” When Atsu shook his head, Kuroo put his phone on the table in the middle, “Alright, tell us what happened?”

“I was on call with Samu, he,” Atsu glanced at Suna, “he wanted to talk about something.”

Suna rolled his eyes, so did everyone else, the twins were probably planning another surprise for him. Kiyoomi couldn't help but smile at how adorable Atsu was in his efforts to get the two to admit they're together.

“Uh-huh,” Kuroo urged Atsu to continue, throwing a smirk at Suna, which was pointedly ignored.

“When I heard him talkin’ to someone, he told them he had given them information about us less than 24 hours ago,” Atsumu looked up at Kuroo and Ushijima, urging them to make sense of it. “And then they asked specifically about Shoyo-kun and Tobio-kun, and Iwa-san said there had been no new development but then he remembered something about Bo-kun and Hinata and he started telling them but then he shut his office door and I couldn't hear more.”

“You didn't follow him?” Kuroo asked.

“He shut the door, and I-”

“So you only stand at the door to hear the conversation when it's your brother and I, not when Iwaizumi is possibly betraying the team,” Suna scolded.

“He was probably too shocked to follow,” Kiyoomi defended his baby boyfriend. Earning another glare from Suna.

“I was, Omi,” Atsu nodded, “I didn't know what to do, so I just ran here to you guys.”

“Okay, but this is all speculation right,” Shoyo said, Kageyama and Ushijima nodded.

“I think we should ask Iwaizumi himself and see what he has to say,” Ushijima said. His straightforwardness was what Kiyoomi liked best about Wakatoshi-san.

“We can't straight up accuse him,” Kuroo said.

“It won't be accusing if it isn't true, Kuroo,” Bokuto answered.

“Bo, it's not that simple,” Kuroo sighed.

“Atsumu-san probably heard wrong, Iwaizumi-san would not be sharing any secrets, especially not about me or Hinata,” Kageyama looked at Shoyo, who nodded, and then they both turned their imploring gazes at Kuroo.

“I did not hear wrong, Tobio-kun,” Atsumu stated, offended that the other setter would say such a thing, “I don't want to accuse Iwaizumi-san! But I know what I heard.”

Kiyoomi nodded when Atsu looked at him to see if he believed him.

“We are not saying you would do that, Tsumu-san,” Hinata reassured the blonde, “Is there anything more you can tell us, you remember?”

Atsu’s face scrunched as he tried to remember anything more he had heard. He mumbled something, before saying, “Tell me about Shoyo and Tobio-chan again,” Atsu looked at Shoyo, “They asked about the two of ya, especially.”

Shoyo and Kageyama’s eyes narrowed at that, before Shoyo turned to look at the man sitting behind him. The two did their weird psychic talk, before turning to look at Atsu again.

“What did they call Kageyama?” Shoyo asked again.

“Tobio-chan,” Atsu answered.

“Do you guys know something?” Kuroo asked the two.

“We think–” Shoyo started, but he was cut off.

“What's going on?”

For a second time that day, silence engulfed the room and the people in it.

“Iwaizumi,” Ushijima acknowledged the man.

“Wakatoshi,” Iwaizumi replied, sensing the more than usual curtness in the other man's voice. He took in the surroundings, and asked, “What happened, Tsumu?”

Kiyoomi didn't have to look at Atsu to know big fat tears were about to roll down his face again. Bokuto hugged him again, and he felt his temper rise because that should be him comforting his boyfriend, not the good looking beefy substitute for a twin. He redirected it to the man who was possibly “cheating” on them.

“Tsumu thinks you're cheating on us,” came Suna's clipped response. As much as that man lives for drama, there's no fun in this one, not when it's causing Atsumu pain.

Aran got up, facing the man of the hour. As much as he respects and trusts Iwaizumi, he knows Tsumu would never wrongly accuse someone. But was there even an accusation, it's left to be seen.

“What this one,” Aran pointed at Suna, “and that one,” Atsumu, “mean to say is, Tsumu heard you on the phone earlier, and it seemed like you were giving out team secrets, especially about Hinata and Kageyama, were you?”

“Huh?” Iwaizumi responded, this was probably the most baffled they'd ever seen the man.

Iwaizumi looked at everyone and noticed the weary looks he was getting from everyone and the outright glare from Sakusa and Suna.

“What?” Iwaizumi asked again.

“Aran explained everything very precisely, Iwaizumi,” Kuroo said, getting up and turning to look at the man, ignoring Bokuto’s call for him. “What do you have to say for yourself? Mind you, you're being recorded.”

Iwaizumi looked at everyone again, while trying to take in what was being said, he paused when the gravity of everything sank in. He turned to ‘Tsumu, his anger diminishing by the big round eyes that met his, reminding him of another set of eyes that look adorable when filled with tears.

“Miya Atsumu! What makes you think I was giving out team secrets?” Iwaizumi asked, voice harsh in anger.

Kiyoomi and Suna got up from their seats, if it came down to throwing hands they couldn't count on Aran and Kuroo’s sane asses.

“I heard you earlier, Iwa-san, ya were telling about Bokuto when they asked about Shoyo and Tobio-chan,” Atsumu replied.

This adorable idiot, Iwaizumi thought.

“You heard that and came here and told them I was giving out team secrets,” Iwaizumi looked at him and at everyone else as if confirming that's what had happened. “Okay, one, what team secrets are we talking about? Have y’all seen your socials! And ... .and none of you thought to defend me?”

Now it was everyone else's turn to pause, the aggressive environment deflated and suddenly everyone felt like they were back in school and were being scolded by the teacher.

“I did,” replied Kageyama, stoic as ever, dodging a nudge from Hinata.

Ushijima nodded, “So did I,” he said, before adding, “we were trying to understand what happened and I suggested asking you directly.”

“Only two?” Iwaizumi inquired, “Hinata?”

“Iwaizumi-san, it's not like we thought you would, we all knew you wouldn't,” Shoyo tried to explain.

“But we can't afford to make light of such things,” Kuroo replied. He was back in his seat, much relaxed than he had been a while ago. “Nothing here is official right now, so if you have a good explanation, we can wrap this up here.”

“Expla-,” Iwaizumi wanted to be affronted, but he looked at all the pairs of eyes blinking at him, “Explanation. You really want me to-”

“I don't know,” Atsu grumbled, “Tell me more about them Iwa-chan.”

Kiyoomi could see something akin to realisation flash on the faces of Shoyo, Kageyama and Wakatoshi.

“I told you,” Shoyo said to Kageyama.

“Idiot! I told you ,” replied Kageyama.

The rest of the team and Kuroo looked at the two to share what they had told each other. They had in fact not told each other, thought Kiyoomi.

“What did you call him, Atsumu?” Wakatoshi-kun asked. Kiyoomi could see hints of a smile on the man's face.

“Iwa-chan, it's what the person on the phone had called him,” Atsumu answered.

“Iwaizumi-san was not sharing any team secrets, Tsumu-san,” Shoyo declared, pulling Atsu towards him. Kiyoomi prays to whatever god may exist to bless Shoyo.

“How do you know?” Suna asked. Curiosity will kill the foxes in this room before the cats even get their turn, thought Kiyoomi.

“There is only one person who addresses him as Iwa-chan, Oikawa Tooru,” Ushijima answered.

“The Argentinian setter?” asked Suna and Kuroo at the same time.

“The Great King,” Hinata chirped. He continued excitedly, “he’s amazing, he was the person Kageyama looked up to in high school, he was also Iwaizumi-san’s setter when he was an ace in high school, I met him when I was in Brazil. He is awesome!”

It was like a bulb lit up on everyone’s head. They knew how fond Iwaizumi was of his high school setter, often talking to Hinata and Kageyama about the man with a soft smile on his face that they rarely saw otherwise.

“Never let him hear you say all that, his head is big enough already,” Iwaizumi said, though his smile again betrayed his words.

“Why did you make it sound like the man isn't in your life anymore?” Kiyoomi asked.

“He’s not here is he,” Iwaizumi sighed, “we-”

“They used to be together all the time, Sakusa-san, they also grew up together,” Shoyo cut in, “Nowadays they just have texts and calls and regular video calls. It's all a little difficult, but they manage, that’s what Oika-san says.”

“Shut up, Hinata,” Iwaizumi said, pinching the bridge of his nose, although his blush was evident.

“I’m sorry, Iwa-san, I thought the worst of ya,” Atus apologised.

“You come here,” Kiyoomi murmured, before pulling Atsu to his chest, he was done seeing his boyfriend being held by others.

“It’s okay, there was no harm done,” Kuroo said, pocketing his phone. He was glad that he was right and that this was nothing, otherwise it would be difficult to explain why there was no audio recorded.

“Tsumu is still crying,” Iwaizumi replied.

“I really didn think ya would, but I heard,” Tsumu mumbled, sniffling.

“He has a thing with father figures, makes him emotional,” Suna whispered, although loud enough for all of them to hear.

Father figure ,” Iwaizumi repeated, flabbergasted at being addressed as such.

“Daddy..if you'd prefer that,” Suna relented, teasing both him and Sakusa blatantly.

“I’d say it's men in authority,” Sakusa answered, joining in.

“It's older men,” Aran added.

“Older?” Iwaizumi repeated. “I’m only a year older,” he said, these guys were making him feel older than he is.

“Still counts, still counts,” Suna nodded.

“Come sit down,” Kuroo instructed a confused Iwaizumi, “and then I can talk to you guys what I originally came to talk about.”

“Ah, Kuroo, can we not chill for a few minutes? I feel tired after all this,” Bokuto said.

“You’re training for the Olympics,” Kuroo reminded his bestie.

“Yeah…but this was emotional,” Bokuto replied, reclining on the couch now that there was more space.

There was a murmur of “break” from the others before they all disbursed, breaking into small groups and continuing conversation. Kiyoomi, who was still on the bean bag, now with Atsumu curled up with him, took the time to comfort his baby and dote on him as much as he wanted.
