Work Text:

Who’s to say that playing the villain was a bad thing? Sure, every story has its heroes to save the day and the villains are defeated in the end, but that didn’t mean he was bad… he just… puts one tiny spell on a prince that didn’t deserve it and once he’s 16, lets him sleep for 100 years… okay maybe playing a villain was a bad thing.

EVIL Xisuma. Yeah, that rolls off the tongue. Makes it so original. EX thinks as he rolls his eyes. He had already done his part in placing the spell on the newborn prince. It’s the first time he’s done it and all it left was a sour feeling in his throat even after 4 years. Stupid stories, stupid Grand Fairy, stupid, stupid… He’s thoughts seemed to go on for ages as he walked through his enchanted forest. His long black cape followed behind him as he made his way to the rushing sounds of a river. He stared at his reflection as he did he only scoffed at the eyes staring back. Ever since he was chosen for the roll of the Dark Fairy he just didn’t feel right. Not just because he thought the story was much too dark for one person, but the way he looked and acted, the way even the forest cowered at his feet. He had to play the part as someone so evil and he hated it.

“What would Xisuma say?” He thought to himself, his raven like wings falling on his back.

“I’d say you look upset, brother.”

The voice from the tree’s startled Evil X to look at his brother with wide eyes before showing a look of annoyance. “Shouldn’t you be making glass slippers right now?” He crossed his arms at his brother. He always knew that even though he was dubbed the “Evil Twin” that Xisuma was unknown of his chaotic nature. X didn’t like he rules of stories. He always talked to him about “Changing the stories” and “Rewriting a new chapter.” That was the dreams of a child. Evil X knew there was no way in fairytales that the Grand Fairy would agree to something like that.

“Nah, my story just ended.” Xisuma gracefully fluttered his wings and landed on the grass below the tree he was sitting in. “How’s yours going, EX?” He asked as he walked up to EX. He let out a long sigh of his suppressed frustrations. “That bad?” Xisuma sounded concerned.

“You know how I jumped at the opportunity to become a villain?” Evil X continued when Xisuma nodded. “I’m regretting that excitement.”

“I thought you wanted to be a villain. You said it yourself that playing the hero sounded too boring and that you thought if you played the villain you wouldn’t feel bad or get attached.”

“I know what I said.” EX’s voice saddened by a small amount. “The kingdom was so happy when I placed that spell but… I couldn’t help but wonder….” His words drifted off, but Xisuma knew what he was thinking. He always did. He can see the anger and sadness in his brother’s eyes. The way his fist tightens around his wooden staff. The way the black feathers on his wings twitched with unease.

“You wonder… what will others think?”

“I wonder what HE would think.”

…

“He?”

Evil X sighed once again. The feathers calming a bit. “The baby… He’s only a child X. Meant to be sleeping for 100 years on his 16th birthday. That’s more than Evil… that’s.. Monstrous.”

All Xisuma could do was nod.. “I know what you mean.”

Evil Xisuma huffed a laugh. “Sure thing, Fairy God Parent.” He nearly hissed the name.

Xisuma huffed a laugh as well. “yeah… I do..”

Evil X was confused about the way his brothers demeanor shifted from happy to sad.

“Cinderella. All I was instructed to do was once the step sisters ripped her gown, she’d run off and cry, and all I had to do was appear…” Evil X listened intently to his brother as he told his story. “But before that all I was instructed to do was wait. Just. Wait. I couldn’t do anything as she was mistreated by the step mother and sisters. I could’ve appeared so many times. I had once thought about turning them into toads.” The words made them laugh. It would be quite the scene to see Xisuma turn them into toads.

“I hate my story just as much as you hate yours. Following the rules… it sickens me…” Xisuma huffed a laugh at his own memory. “I once convinced Cinderella to plant watermelon in her garden so next story I could make a watermelon carriage instead of pumpkin. Just to mess with the story a bit.”

“The Grand Fairy would have your head.” EX laughed. After the light moment it turned sour fast. “I don’t even know the young princes name… why do I feel like I’ve known him all my life.”

Xisuma gently placed his hand on his brother’s shoulder. “That’s called kindness, friend.”

A twig snapping nearby made the brothers flinch. “Someone’s coming.” Xisuma quickly made himself into a small pixie and flew past the tree branches to hide. EX took a deep breath and prepared himself. He always made the act to be “Evil” as perfect as possible. Even working on the Evil laugh so the Grand Fairy wouldn’t replace him. He swiftly turned around and came face to almost face with the intruder. It was a young boy, golden hair, and diamond blue eyes. Evil Xisuma immediately recognized the child to be the young prince from his story. The one he had… met over 4 years ago.

“Hello.” The young child spoke. Evil X did his best to appear as the evil dark fairy, but the boy’s voice was so soft and young. The boy was wearing white royal attire that seemed to be caked with mud at the bottom of his pants. He looked at EX not with the fear of being close to the fairy, but with a big smile and eyes full of wonder. EX was happy to see the boy had not been feared by him. He didn’t even seem to recognize him. Alright.. keep it together, Xisure .

“Go away..” Evil X’s voice shook for only a moment. We aren’t supposed to meet yet. The child kept walking forward. “Go.” He didn’t want to scare the kid, but he also knew he shouldn’t be here. “Go away.” Then the child did something Evil X never thought would be possible. He hugged him. “I don’t LIKE children.” All the child did was look up at Evil X like he was the most interesting thing in the world. He felt his heart warm up due to the kids reaction. Don’t get attached…

“Up..up.” The child whispered softly and made little grabby hands towards him. Evil X huffed and tried to ignore the child, but he could not resist. What am I doing? The little boy was hoisted into the air. His giggles sang in Evil X’s ears that caused a small grin from him. The kid seemed to be in awe of Evil X, grabbing the horned crown on top of his head. Of course the horns were not real because that was not what he was. So the Grand Fairy created a crown that only looked like horns. The boy’s hands drifted from his horns to the feathers that made the collar of his tunic. As soon as the child looked to the ground, Evil X gently set him on his feet. “Go along.” He ushered the child. “Go, go, go.”

As soon as he was on his way he heard others from outside the forest call for the missing prince. Evil X watched as the boy disappeared deeper and away from the woods. Xisuma fluttered by his brothers side and returned to his full form, green sparkles shining as he transformed. “EX?” No answer.

…

“Xisure?”

“Wels.”

Xisuma made a sound of confusion. Silently asking for his brother to elaborate.

“That’s his name. That’s what those people were shouting.”

Xisuma now understood his words. He smiled at his brother, seeing the happiness from his eyes.

“So…?”

Evil X turned to Xisuma. There was a spark of determination in his eyes.

“Remember when we talked about rewriting a chapter? Changing the script? Finding people from these hatred stories and bringing them to a place where they could write their own stories?”
