Work Text:

Reki watched in awe as Langa raced. Someone had changed her to a beef, and being the thrill-seeker she was, Langa accepted. Her long blue hair, which she had grown out to the point it was similar to Cherrys, was in a low pony tail. Safe to say, Reki loved it. She was so enthralled in watching and cheering Langa on, that she failed to notice Miya inching closer and closer to her.

Only when she felt a skateboard roughly hitting her ankle, did she look his way. “OW! What the hell, Miya?” She hissed. Miya seemed unbothered. He pulled his hoodie off from over his head, and followed Reki’s eyes to where she had been watching Langa. “So, slime, when are you going to confess?”

“What are you talking about?” Reki looked at him with confusion. Miya gave a dramatic sigh, as if Reki should know what he was referring to. She stared at him dumbly, waiting for his explanation, but it never came. Miya hopped on his skateboard and looked as if he was preparing to skate away. “Hey!” She grumbled, lightly hitting him in the shoulder, and repeating herself. “What are you talking about?”

“Your crush on Langa.” He said simply, not even looking at Reki. She froze up, feeling heat rise to her face. She took a moment to respond, stumbling over her words. “Ha- That’s funny, why would I like Langa? She’s my best friend!” Miya raised an eyebrow, a silent way of showing his disbelief.

Reki slumped her shoulders, “Okay yeah fine, I do like her. How’d you even know?” Reki didn’t think she was very obvious. Sure she was touchy with Langa, but she was like that with everyone else too. Maybe not to the extent she was with Langa, however. And they always hung out with each other, but of course they would, they were best friends! Maybe Reki called Langa pretty a lot… but girls complimented each other all the time, so why wouldn’t she?

How had Miya of all people managed to be the first to realize? Well…scratch that. Oka definitely suspected she liked Langa too, even if he hadn’t said it. But, the point still stands.

“You’re seriously asking that? You two are the most obvious people in the world…literally everyone knows.” Reki’s eyes widened, “What?!” She yelled, maybe a little too loud, considering multiple people side-eyed the pair. Miya saying ‘you two’ flew right over her head, and she didn’t give it a second thought. “So does Langa know I like her?”

Miya sighed, exasperated. “No, stupid slime.” She sighed with relief, visibly more relaxed. “And you won’t tell her, right?” Reki attempted to force a look akin to puppy dog eyes, Miya thought she looked like an idiot. He didn’t respond, huffing before skating off towards Cherry and Joe. “Uhm..Miya. MIYA?!” Reki called after him, quickly hopping on her skateboard to catch up with the boy.

Reki started a beef with Shadow, swearing she’d win this one. Langa watched with quiet excitement, grinning when Reki began to pull ahead of the other in the race. Unlike Reki on the previous night, Langa noticed when Miya approached her. He obviously wanted to say something, a catlike, almost mischievous smile on his face. Langa tilted her head, clearly confused. “Langa, you like Reki don’t you?” He asked bluntly, sounding indifferent.

“Well yeah? She’s my best friend.” Langa wasn’t sure why Miya had asked that. She thought it was pretty obvious, was it not? “Not like that!” He hissed, clearly fed up. “Like, as in you have a crush on her, idiot.” Langa blinked, “Oh, yeah. I do.” She responded after a short silence. “I’m surprised you admitted it so quickly.” Miya mumbled, partly to himself. “Why would I deny it?” Langa asked with genuine confusion. “Well Reki didn’t…never mind.” Miya groaned.

“So, are you going to tell her anytime soon?” He pried, moving to stand infront of Langa when her eyes went back to the race. “I tried to, after I won the race against Adam.” Miyas jaw dropped, “HUH?! That long ago?” Langa nodded, “She didn’t understand what I was trying to say.” Miya gave her a skeptical look.

“Well what did you say?”

“I want to skate infinitely with you?”

“Oh. My. God.” Miya put his face in his hands, taking a moment to regain his composure. He sighed deeply, “Okay. Okay, that’s…yeah I can’t even lie to you, you’re an idiot.” He hopped on his skateboard and muttered to himself as he skated off, leaving Langa stand watching him, clueless.

Sia la Luce was often visited by everyone in the group of skaters, becoming a designated hang out spot. Miya, dropped off by Shadow, who didn’t stay because of supposed ‘better things to do’ wasn’t surprised when he seen Cherry at the front, seemingly bickering with Joe. There was only one other person in the restaurant, at a table far away from the front, it was clearly a slow day.

They both turned to face him as he skated towards them. “Miya I’ve already told you to set your skateboard at the entrance..” Joe scolded lightly. Miya just shrugged, getting off of it and hopping into the seat beside Cherry. “Want me to cook you anything, Miya?” He stopped by the restaurant most often, Joe always asked that same question, and Miya usually claimed he wasn’t hungry, today was no different.

“Not hungry.” He waved dismissively, “I have something important to talk about.” Cherry set down the wine he had been taking a sip of, looking towards Miya curiously. Joe raised an eyebrow, “Oh? What is it kid?” He asked. “Those two slimes are so obvious, right?” Cherry and Joe exchanged a glance of shared confusion. “Reki and Langa!” Miya explained, instantly their expressions morphed into understanding.

Cherry spoke up, “I had assumed they were together back when I first met them.” He commented, Joe nodded in agreement. “Well I think they need to hurry up and get together! It’s insufferable, watching them dance around each other!” The bell signaling a costumer entering chimed, catching Joes attention. “Well, as fun as gossiping with you would be, Miya, I’ve got costumers.” He said quickly, albeit apologetically.

Cherry hit him with the folding fan he had been holding, “Don’t encourage his gossiping.” Cherry scolded. “Yeah, yeah, sorry.” He laughed, not sounding sorry in the slightest, then went to attend to the costumer. “Miya.” The boy huffed, facing Cherry. “They’ll work it out eventually, leave it be.” He stated with a stern tone. Miya agreed, though he knew he was going to meddle anyway.

Miya entered dope sketch, being greeted by Oka from behind the counter, Langa and Reki right after. He had the perfect idea to get the pair together, it was simple, no way he could mess it up. The two girls paused putting skateboards on the racks, walking up to them. “Hey, Miya! What’re you doing here?” Reki greeted happily, playfully pinching his cheek. Miya quickly shoved her away, “I’m not here for you, slime.”

Reki pouted, feigning hurt. “Langa, I challenge you to a beef.” Without skipping a beat, “Okay. I accept.” Just as expected, Langa immediately agreed. Reki looked between them with confusion, muttering “I’m getting deja vu…” Miya payed her no mind. “If you win…” He paused, “You can decide, I don’t care, but if I win..” He leaned in to whisper to the girl, where Reki wouldn’t hear. “You have to confess.”

Langa seemed a little surprised, and Miya didn’t fail to notice the faint blush on her cheeks. “Hey! Tell me, I want to know!” Reki complained, “Langa what’d he say?” She hesitated before shaking her head, “Nothing important. If I win, you have to buy me a burger.” Miya scrunched up his nose, “Really, that’s the best you could come up with?” Langa just shrugged.

Okay so maybe Miya should’ve expected to lose, considering he lost to Langa last time. He bitterly handed money over the the woman at the cash register as Langa stood behind him, eyes practically shining, over a burger. While Reki stood beside him, smiling softly at the other girl. He hated these slimes.

After Langa received his burger and the trio left, Miya pointed aggressively at Reki. “Now I challenge you to a beef.” He’d easily win against Reki, then they’d finally get together! “Okay, I guess?” Reki seemed confused, “Are you going to challenge everyone to a beef or something?” Miya huffed, he was really starting to grow sick of these two. “No. Just you.” Langa seemed unbothered as she contentedly ate her burger.

“If I win you have to confess.” He whispered, his usual catlike grin appearing on his face. Reki hesitated, looking up at Langa a moment before nodding, “Okay, fine. But if I win, you have to leave me alone about it!” She huffed. Miya shrugged, “Fine.” Reki wouldn’t win anyway, he was sure of it.

Reki panted as she crossed the finish line, seconds after Miya did. She ran a hand over her face, almost 100% sure she had sweat off all her eyeliner. Langa hurried over to her, and Reki smiled wide, quickly hugging her. As she did, she seen Miya smirking behind them. Oh right. She lost, she had to confess.

Reki let go of Langa, taking the smallest step back. She pulled her twin braids over her shoulders, eyes meeting Langa’s after a moment of hesitancy. “Langa,” She took a deep breath, preparing herself for any reaction, from Langa leaping forward to kiss her, to Langa called her a freak and never talking to her again.“Ireallylikeyoualotandihaveforawhileyouresocool—“

“Reki.”

“Youprobablydontevenlikegirls!“

“Reki?”

“Youprobablywanttodatearealgirlnotme—“

“Reki Kyan.”

Reki finally stopped her frantic rambling, because Langa had taken a step closer, one hand holding Reki’s face gently. Though outwardly she was now quiet, Reki’s brain was still going a mile a minute, trying to process what was happening. “I like you too.” With those words, Reki’s racing thoughts came to a full stop. She instantly pulled Langa into another hug, which was instantly returned.

“FINALLY!”

Reki fumbled with her mascara as she hurried to apply it. Langa would be here any minute, and Reki couldn’t shake away her nervous excitement. This would be their first date as a couple, and though their relationship hadn’t changed very much since they began dating, it still felt different.

Reki began braiding her hair. She and Langa had originally planned to simply go to the skate park for a first date, and hang out as they usually did. They didn’t care as long as they were able to spend time together. But upon hearing about their plans, Joe had offered them a free meal at Sia la luce so they could have a date there. (Like the duo didn’t receive free food all the time anyway.)

Reki sighed as she finally finished getting ready, before hurrying out of the bathroom and towards her bedroom to grab her skateboard. She caught her mom’s attention as she passed, who quickly stopped her. “Oh you look so pretty, Reki! Have fun on your date, don’t do anything stupid.” She said with a sweet smile. Reki grinned and quickly reassured her. Just as she made it to her room and picked up her skateboard, there was a knock at the door.

“ILL GET IT!”

She yelled and quickly ran to the door, opening it to reveal Langa, as expected. “Hey.” Rather than responding, Reki lunged forward to hug her girlfriend. “Dude you look so good!” She exclaimed, still holding tightly onto Langa. “You look great too.” Reki finally let go, stepping outside of the house.

Langa got on her skateboard, “Are you ready to go?” Reki quickly nodded and dropped her own skateboard to hop onto it. “Race you there?” She challenged. Langa smiled widely, “Don’t expect to win.”
