Work Text:

The journey to parenthood has not been an easy road for Tim and Lucy. They decided to get married after Aaron was shot and right before Nolan’s wedding. They had waited a year to start their family and enjoy their married life. Tim also had gone back to Metro and Lucy became a TO. She had also taken the Sergeant’s exam. She had passed with flying colors and became Grey’s newest patrol Sergeant. That happened all within their first year of marriage. Once they started trying to for a family, they both realized it didn’t come easily.

Lucy felt devastated with every negative test. After a year and a half, it finally happened. Lucy repurposed their booties to tell Tim. This was all that he ever wanted. He wanted a family and he was doing this with Lucy. She’s the love of his life and he would never have kids as long as Lucy is his wife.

Tim was by Lucy’s side her entire pregnancy. He was there for every appointment, they did the nursery together, he cried when he found out they were having a baby girl, and just everything in between. Their daughter was born at just thirty two weeks. Lucy’s health was in danger and it was the scariest moment of his life. Tim thought that he was going to lose them both. When he held his daughter for the first time, he lost his battle with tears. She was so small, but she was a fighter. In the end, both of them were healthy and okay.

Raising their baby girl together was the greatest thing in this world. Tim took early retirement while Lucy became Watch Commander. It was her time to shine and he wanted to be a full time dad. Lana is now eleven months old. Her first birthday is approaching pretty quickly. “Do you want to go visit mama?”

“Mama!” Lana claps her hands together. Watching Lucy become a mother is the greatest thing in this world. Lana may have been born early, but she is very healthy. She hit most of her milestones early or on time. Lucy doesn’t want to miss the important events but she knows that Tim always has the camera on for her just in case.

“Yes baby girl, mama. We miss her.” Tim dresses Lana in her Mama’s Mini onesie and a pair of pants to match. She was her mom’s twin and Tim wouldn’t change it for anything. Her loves that he has a mini Lucy running around. They aren’t sure if they will ever have another baby, but their baby girl is their entire world.

Tim puts her little shoes on and a jacket before making sure the diaper bag is packed. He feels two hands on him and sees Lana has crawled to him. Tim leans and picks her up. “Did you come to find dada?”

“Dada.” She kisses his cheek and it’s just another thing he adores about his daughter, even if they’re full of drool.

Tim’s heart melts hearing mama and dada every single time. Within ten minutes, they are on their way to the station. Lana is so close to taking her first steps and this is something that Tim does not want Lucy to miss. He parks the truck and grabs Lana out of her car seat. She giggles and claps her hands knowing that she will see her mama.

“Let’s go see your mama. She is going to be so happy to see you.” She squeals when she sees Aaron heading inside. He jogs over to them.

“There’s my favorite girl.” He tickles Lana’s belly and she giggles reaching for her favorite uncle. Aaron takes her and gives her a kiss. “You love your Uncle Aaron.” She claps her hands and they walk inside.

“I think you’ll need to come visit soon.”

Aaron smiles at Tim, he never expected the man to retire, but fatherhood looked good on him. “I’m on vacation next week. I think we should make plans to take this little one to the zoo.”

“I’ll check my schedule.” Tim grins and they laugh. Lana isn’t happy to leave Aaron, but he has to get back to work. Tim goes to find Lucy. She is in her office stuck with piles of paperwork. He knocks lightly and before she looks up, she groans. As soon as she sees Tim and Lana, her entire demeanor changes. “This is a great surprise.” Lucy gets up.

“Mama!” Lana screeches and reaches for her mother.

She easily takes her into her arms. “Mama misses you.” She leans up and kisses Tim. “And she misses daddy.”

“Rough day?” Lucy melts into his embrace, not caring who sees.

“It’s been horrible. I really can’t wait to get home to my favorite people.” Tim kisses her forehead. Lana is very excited to see her mom.

Tim cups her cheek. “Do you have some time for us?” Lucy had to go in early today and hasn’t seen them.

“Yes she can step away for an hour.” Wade is standing there and Lana squeals again.

“Why can’t everyone be that happy to see me?” Lana shoves her face into Lucy’s chest when Wade reaches for her.

“Someone misses her mom.” He smiles at the three people who have become family.

Tim moves closer to him. “She does. Thank you for letting us steal her for a bit.” They head to the food trucks and Tim grabs their food which is ready. Lucy eats fairly quickly and goes to play with Lana. There’s some grass near the same benches where Tim first asked Lucy out. Tim joins them. “What’s going on Luce?”

“It’s just been one thing after another today. The paperwork is non stop and my morning was filled with meetings. The Chief is very happy with what I’ve done here though. I don’t do this for recognition though. I just want to make a change within the department.”

Tim grabs her hand. Lana sits in the grass and Lucy hands her one of her favorite toys. “I know that you don’t, but you’ve already done so much good Lucy. I’m so proud of you and everything you’ve accomplished. I love watching you rise through the ranks.”

Lucy squeezes his hand and lays her head on his shoulder. Lana smiles at her parents and crawls into Tim’s lap. She stands up and they think she might walk, but she falls on her butt and giggles. “I hate that you have to go.”

“Me too Luce. I promise you wine, dinner, and a hot shower when you get home.”

She leans in to kiss him. “I can’t wait.” Lana tries to pull them apart and they both laugh. Tim finally leaves and Lucy has the renewed energy to get through the day. Grey lets her leave early and for that she is thankful.

When Lucy gets home, it’s still light outside. She finds her favorite people outside. Lucy watches Tim push Lana on the swing set they bought. “Hi baby.”

Tim startles not realizing she was home. “You’re home early.” He smiles brightly at her.

“I think Wade took pity on me and let me leave. That means I can be home for Lana’s bath and dinner.” Lana reaches for her mom. It’s a beautiful night outside. She wants to crawl to Kojo.

Tim pulls Lucy to the swing they have. Lana and Kojo are right in front of them. “Mama!” She claps and pets Kojo. He is very protective of her even when she beats him up.

“Are you having fun with Kojo?” Lucy loves to sit on the grass. She hands Kojo a treat.

“Mama! Dada!” Her heart melts when she hears her say their names. She really didn’t think they’d ever have this.

Lana uses Kojo to stand up, which is something she has taken to doing lately with most objects. Lucy smiles at her daughter before she lets go of Kojo. Tim knows what is about to happen before it does. Lana moves one leg and then the other. “Lana, baby girl. Come to mama.” Lucy has tears in her eyes and holds her arms out. Tim is recording this moment.

Lana claps and takes her very shaky steps to Lucy. She takes five before falling into Lucy’s arms. “You took your first steps. We are so proud of you. You are such a big girl.” Lana doesn’t understand what’s so exciting but she is very happy.

“She waited for her mama to walk.” Tim kisses Lucy’s head and takes Lana into his arms. He wipes a few tears from Lucy’s eyes.

“I can’t believe she took her first steps.” Tim grabs their favorite dinner once Lana is in bed. She took a few more steps after dinner and her bath.

Tim pulls Lucy into the shower after dinner. “Our baby girl is getting so big.” Lucy wraps her arms around him.

“She really is. This is one thing I didn’t want to miss.” Tim rubs her back.

“She waited for you to get home and I’m really glad that she did.” Tim leans down and gives her a soft kiss.

They love watching their daughter grow. When Lana is three, she runs to Tim. “Dada!” He picks her up and sees Lucy leaning against the wall.

“Lucy, really?” Lana is wearing a shirt that says Big Sister.

“Yes, we’re having another baby.” Even if it’s absolutely terrifying, they never thought they would have this.

Tim loves hearing Lana’s footsteps throughout the house, but it’s even better when he hears Lana and their newest little girl, Aubrey, running through the house together. His girls were his entire world.
