Chapter Text
Genny had just called Lucy to let her know that their dad died. Thankfully, Grey let her leave to go see Tim. He was her only focus. They have been together for a year and she had been by his side when they all fixed up their childhood home together. Today, he needed her more than ever.
Lucy walks inside their home and goes to find Tim. He isn’t anywhere inside and she has a feeling she knows where he is. “Tim.” She finally finds him sitting on the back patio. His eyes are red and she knows that he’s going through a whirlwind of emotions right now. “Genny called me.”
Lucy stands in front of him. “I..I didn’t expect to feel this way.”
She places her hand on his shoulder and when he doesn’t flinch, she moves to cup his cheek. “Baby, you can feel however you want to.”
Tim has a flurry of emotions going through his head. “Why am I so upset, but also so relieved at the same time?” Lucy moves her other arm to wrap around Tim’s back and the one on his cheek moves under his chin. She tilts his head slightly so that he’s looking at her.
“That man was a monster. He stole your childhood and was an abusive bastard, but he’s still your dad. I know you have the smallest memories of good moments and you’re thinking about those as well. It’s okay to not be okay. I’m going to be here for you and we will get through this together.”
She finally pulls Tim into her and his face is against her chest. She can feel his tears wetting her shirt. “I don’t know if I can do this whole funeral thing for him. I don’t want to hear anyone say that he was a good man because he never was. He made my life a living hell. I’m almost glad he’s dead.” Lucy lets him talk, not wanting to interrupt him. “I don’t know if I can deal with any of this though.”
“Tim, you don’t have to do anything alone. If anyone tries to start with you, they can deal with me. I won’t let anyone bother you.” Tim finally looks at her and she can see the emotions flashing across his face. It breaks her heart. No other words are spoken between them. Lucy’s priority is Tim. He has been in therapy since he first saw his dad again. He told Lucy he wanted to be the best version of himself for her.
Her response was that he already was the best man for her, but she’s been so proud that he recognized that he should be talking to someone.
She finally tugs his hand to stand and they head inside. She cooks something light for dinner before finally changing into something more comfortable and heading to bed. Genny asked to meet at the funeral home tomorrow and Lucy said she would be there. Genny understands this is hard for Tim and doesn’t want to push. All he ever did was protect her and she felt like he never could protect him.
The next morning, Lucy and Tim head to the funeral home. He wants to support his sister, but that’s it. Lucy takes charge of this so that neither sibling needs to try to take care of it. “Please don’t ever lose her.” Genny and Tim watch Lucy work on the arrangements.
“I don’t plan on ever letting her go. She is everything good in my life.” Tim can feel himself becoming emotional. “She’s saved me in so many ways too.” Genny pulls him in for a hug.
“Lucy loves you and has for a long time. I can’t believe she’s handling all of this so we don’t need to.” Genny has to wipe a few tears away
“That’s just who she is.” Tim looks at her and falls more in love.
Genny looks at Tim and she can see how happy he is. “You need to ask her to marry you finally.”
Tim smiles at Genny and they’re both glad for the distraction. “When this is all done, I am. I don’t want to wait anymore.”
Lucy finishes up and heads back to the siblings. “Okay, we’ve got everything planned and this will be small. The obituary is done and extremely short. The service will be small followed by a burial. I’ll let our friends know. They’ve been asking so they can support you.”
“Thank you for doing this Lucy. I’m so lucky to finally have a sister like you.”
Genny pulls Lucy in. “You’re family. I am glad you’re the sister I’m getting. I love you, Genny.”
The three of them head back to Genny’s house. The boys are very happy to see their Aunt Lucy. “Are you two ready to get destroyed in Mario Kart?”
She goes to play with the boys and lets the siblings talk. “We really just need to show up.” Tim runs his hand down his face.
“I just hope we don’t need to see too many people from our past.” Tim finally says and Genny really hopes for the same. They have an appointment with the lawyer while Lucy hangs with the boys. It’s fairly quick and they end up staying for dinner at Genny’s.
Three days later, Lucy finds herself helping Tim button up his shirt for the funeral. His fingers are shaky, but she always knows what he needs. “Remember that I’ve got you Tim. Today is about you. You can feel sad, happy, angry or whatever you need to in order to grieve. You don’t need to speak or even say goodbye. It might give you closure though.”
Tim pulls her in for a kiss. “I wouldn’t be able to get through it without you.”
Lucy’s hands linger on his face for a few extra moments. “You’re so strong, Tim. You’ve survived everything to get to where you are today. I love you and I am so proud of you.”
“I love you Lucy.” He finishes getting dressed and Lucy finishes putting her shoes on.
She drives them to the funeral and sees their family from work. Genny, Tim, the boys, and Lucy are in the front. It’s a very generic and short service. Tim barely notices the people around him, until one of them grabs his arm. “You really showed your face here.” Lucy is instantly in protective mode, but Tim just grabs her hand. “You made up lies about my brother.”
“Your brother was a monster.” Tim spits out when seeing his dad’s brother, Peter. “And so are you.”
Peter laughs. “No we aren’t. You needed discipline and probably still do.” He goes to raise his fist. “You ruined his life.”
Lucy grabs his arm before he can do anything. “Do you really want to be arrested for attacking a police officer?”
“You need to stay out of this little lady. Poor Tim Tim is not who you think.”
“You are just as bad as your brother. You will leave Tim and Genny alone. If you ever even breathe at them the wrong way, I’ll find out and arrest you.” Lucy is not playing around.
The man snarls. “Wow you really need to fight his battles? He’s still a damn pussy.”
“He can damn well fight his battles, but I will not let him be arrested because of a scumbag like you. You are nothing and Tim is the absolute best man. He escaped a life of abuse from that man. He will never be a father because a father doesn’t do that to his kids.” Lucy is angry and has pushed Tim back behind her.
Peter comes closer and she feels Grey and Angela by her side. “They did deserve it. Kids need to be smacked around sometimes.”
“Is that what you did?” Lucy sees him visibly flinch. “Oh wait, your kids hate you. I wonder why.” She taps her chin and snaps her fingers. “Oh that’s right. You did the same shit your brother did. You’ve been disowned. See they talk to Tim, unlike you, and are thriving in their lives.”
“You don’t-”
Lucy doesn’t give him a chance to respond. “Your kids are who they are in spite of you. Their mother raised them right and saved their lives. It still pisses you off. They are successful, unlike you. You can barely get a job anywhere. Now leave or you can face off against the LAPD.”
He huffs, but leaves. Lucy turns around and sees Tim staring at her. Genny is smirking. “You’re the first person to stand up to him.”
“I think I’m the second. His wife leaving him was far braver.” Lucy shrugs.
Tim comes over and hugs her. “My fierce protector.”
Lucy kisses his cheek. “Always baby.” She takes his hand and they head to the cemetery. It’s quick and everyone heads back to Tim and Lucy’s house.
Lucy finds Tim in the backyard, knowing he needed space. “Can I get you anything?”
Tim startles seeing Lucy and her lips curl up slightly. “You’ve already given me so much, well mostly everything I need.”
“Mostly?” Lucy shoves his shoulder.
Tim smiles and it makes her heart flutter to know she helps out that smile on his face. “Mhm.” He stands and pulls her into him for a hug.
“What do you need?”
Tim thinks about it. “How about you becoming my fiancé and not just my girlfriend?” Lucy gasps and pulls away to look at him.
She notices the ring in between his fingers. “I, really?”
“I’ve had this ring for so long. Jackson helped me design it.” This surprises Lucy. “There’s nothing else that I want more than to marry you and become your partner in life forever.” Lucy pulls him in for a kiss. It’s messy, but truly them. “Does that mean you’re saying yes?”
“Hmmm, I don’t know.” Lucy pretends to think about it and Tim places his hand over his heart. “Of course I’m saying yes.”
He slides the ring on her finger and picks her up. He spins her around. “I can’t wait to keep making the best memories with you. Thank you for always being my rock.”
“Forever and always. I’ll be by your side.”
Lucy pulls him in for a kiss and they hear noise. Everyone is staring and she holds her hand out. This was exactly what was needed and the funeral that happened just a few hours earlier, has now been forgotten. This day turned into one of the best moments of their lives.
