The first thing you feel when you wake up is warmth. Not just from the sunlight slipping through the curtains into your room but from the solid weight of the arm draped over your waist. The steady rise and fall of breathing behind you, the familiar sound of soft—if slightly obnoxious—snoring, makes you smile.
You turned around to face Tsukasa, careful not to wake him up. He was still asleep, his face half-buried in the pillow, mouth slightly open with a small trail of drool at the corner of his lips. You stifle a laugh, reaching out to gently wipe it away.
For someone so loud and full of energy when he’s awake, he looks surprisingly peaceful like this. His usual confidence is nowhere to be seen, and the change of pace felt quite nice. But knowing that you were the only one to see it every day felt even better.
You brush some stray hairs off his face, your hand then trailing down to cup his cheek and stroke it with your thumb. Your touch causes him to stir with a quiet hum, his grip tightening instinctively around you. You see his eyes flutter open, a bit drowsy but filled with fondness as soon as they land on you.
"Good morning," he mumbles.
"Morning…" you smiled, "Did I wake you up?"
Tsukasa shakes his head, stretching his arms above his head before flopping back down with a sigh. "Mm, no… I was already waking up." His voice is thick with sleep, a little slower than usual.
"You sure?" you tease. "You looked pretty comfortable."
"I was. But this isn’t bad either."
For a moment, neither of you say anything. The morning air is cool, but the bed is warm, and neither of you seem in a hurry to leave it. You watch as Tsukasa blinks a few times, trying to shake off the last traces of sleep, before he finally shifts onto his side to face you properly.
"Did you sleep well?" he asks, his voice quieter now.
You nod. "Yeah. You?"
"Pretty good… though, I think I had a dream where I forgot all my lines during a performance."
You raise an eyebrow. "Oh? How’d that go?"
He sighs dramatically. "It was awful!I was standing there, right in the spotlight, and suddenly --blank. It was like my brain just shut down…"
"Did the audience start booing?"
"Of course not!" he scoffs, eyes closing again. "I managed to improvise my way out of it, so they were too captivated by my performance to even notice that hiccup!" He proudly announced.
You snort, and he smiles a little, content.
A few more minutes pass before you decide that it was time to start getting productive. "Are you hungry?"
Tsukasa hums thoughtfully. "Mmm…I could eat…"
"Then maybe you should make us breakfast?" you suggest.
"Huh?! I thought you were going to offer making it?! People usually offer to make something if they ask, you know?"
"Please...?" You pleaded, hitting the pathetic puppy look that Emu and Rui taught you the other day. They said it was the ultimate cheat code to get Tsukasa Tenma to do practically anything. And based on Tsukasa’s exasperated expression, it worked.
"Ugh… Fine, fine…! No need to make that face…" He sits up, rubbing his temples, "Anything specific you want?"
You hum, pretending to think. "Nope. Surprise me."
He nods and then leans over to press a quick kiss to your forehead before getting out of bed. You watch as he walks out of the room and heads to the kitchen, and not long after, you hear the quiet clatter of dishes as he started preparing breakfast.
You close your eyes for a moment as you nuzzle back into the bedsheets that were still warm from where he was lying beside you, and let out a content sigh.
Yeah. Mornings like this are nice.
