The members were laying across a cramped Parisian hotel suite, half of them jet-lagged from the flight, the other half buzzing from too much coffee and the thrill of being UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors.
Mingyu had insisted on dragging them all to this little cafe near the Eiffel Tower earlier, but now they were back in the room, and everyone was busy doing their own thing. Jihoon was busy humming random notes, followed by Hoshi trying to make a choreograph of it using some lampshade he saw at the corner.
Vernon was just staring out the window nodding to himself while filming and muttering, “France, man. Wild.”
Mingyu stood in the center of the room, sweating bullets.
His hands were clammy, his heart was pounding, and he kept shifting his weight from foot to foot like he was about to sprint out the door. Wonwoo hovered behind him, arms crossed, looking mildly inconvenienced also like he’d rather be anywhere else.
The rest of the members were barely paying attention. Hoshi was now trying to balance a croissant on his nose, DK was playfully singing "La Vie en Rose" off-key, and Chan was too busy scrolling on X, laughing here and there. “Ah, carats are funny.”
Mingyu cleared his throat. No one noticed. He cleared it again, louder, and Junhui glanced up from his phone to say, "You okay?"
"I’m fine," Mingyu snapped, voice cracking. He wiped his palms on his jeans, took a deep breath, and clapped his hands so hard that Jeonghan jolted awake.
"Okay, guys, listen up!" Mingyu said, voice trembling.
"I… I have something really important to say. Like, really important. So just… please pay attention, okay? This is serious."
The room didn’t exactly quiet down, but a few heads turned.
S.Coups paused mid-baguette-chomp, crumbs falling onto his shirt. Vernon lowered his phone, squinting like he was trying to figure out if this was worth filming. Minghao raised an eyebrow over his teacup, waiting for the man to continue.
Mingyu’s nerves were through the roof now, he could feel his pulse in his ears, his face was burning, and he was pretty sure he’d forgotten how to breathe.
"Come on, spit it out," Jeonghan said, yawning. "You’re acting like you lost your passport again."
"No, it’s not that!" Mingyu said quickly. "It’s… it’s about me and Wonwoo."
Wonwoo raised an eyebrow but didn’t move from his spot, like he was silently praying Mingyu wouldn’t make this worse than it already was.
Mingyu took another shaky breath, looked at Wonwoo for moral support (got none), and then blurted it out.
"We’re dating!"
The room went silent. For about three seconds.
Then Dino snorted, Seungkwan rolled his eyes so hard it looked painful, and DK went right back to belting out La Vie en Rose like nothing had happened. Hoshi picked up the lampshade he’d been twirling earlier and started spinning it again.
Hao took another slow sip of tea, completely disappointed by the huge news. Joshua didn’t even glance up from his phone, muttering “Wow.”
Mingyu blinked, stunned. "Wait… that’s it? That’s your reaction?"
"What do you want, a parade?" Seungkwan said, scrolling through Twitter. "We’ve been watching you two eye-fuck each other since 2017. Congrats on catching up, I guess."
"Yeah," Vernon added, zooming in on Mingyu’s flustered face with his phone. "Thought this was, like, old news. You’re trending on X right now, by the way. ‘MinWon Paris agenda’ or something."
Mingyu’s jaw dropped. "Old news?! I just told you we’re dating!"
Seungcheol shrugged, brushing crumbs off his chest. "Okay, you have our attention now. What’s the announcement?"
Mingyu stared at him, incredulous. "I literally just said it, hyung!"
"Uh… what?" The leader squinted, genuinely confused. "That was it? I thought you were building up to something bigger, like you’re adopting a dog together or moving to Paris permanently."
"No!" Mingyu yelped, throwing his hands up. "I’m saying me and Wonwoo are a couple. Boyfriends! Together!"
Jeonghan yawned again, stretching. "Yeah, we heard you the first time. And?"
"And?!" Mingyu’s voice hit a pitch only dogs could hear. "You’re not shocked? Not even a little?"
Woozi finally looked up from his laptop, deadpan as ever. "Shocked? Mingyu, I’ve been shocked by your cooking skills more than this. You two have been married in my head since you started sharing earbuds."
"That’s not—"
“I’ve seen you stare at Wonwoo’s ass for ten minutes straight during practice. This isn’t news,” Jun piped up.
“Wha–”
“Ten minutes is generous,” Minghao added, “I clocked fifteen once. You didn’t even blink.”
The whole room roared with laughter. Wonwoo coughed into his fist, ears turning pink.
"Save it," Hoshi interrupted, tossing the lampshade to Dino, who caught it like they were playing hot potato. "We’ve all seen you mooning over Wonwoo-hyung for years.”
Wonwoo, who’d been silent this whole time, finally spoke up, frowning. "Hold on. We only started dating three days ago . In Paris. After that club thing."
The room went dead silent. Chan gasped like he’d been stabbed. Cheol dropped the baguette entirely, and it rolled under the coffee table. Jeonghan sat up so fast he knocked over a bottle of water, which Seungkwan dove to catch with a dramatic, "Not my skincare stash!" Vernon’s phone clattered to the floor, and even Woozi’s fingers paused on his keyboard.
"THREE DAYS AGO?!" Seungkwan shrieked, clutching the water bottle like a lifeline. "WHAT THE HELL HAVE YOU TWO BEEN DOING BEFORE THAT THEN?"
Mingyu and Wonwoo exchanged a look. Mingyu panicked, Wonwoo was just tired. "Uh… being friends?" Mingyu said weakly, voice barely audible.
"Friends?" Hoshi yelled, leaping onto the couch and nearly toppling it over. "You don’t spoon-feed your friend galbi at 2 a.m. because he’s ‘too tired to hold chopsticks’!"
"That was ONE TIME!" Mingyu protested.
"Three times," Wonwoo corrected, and Mingyu whipped around to glare at him.
"Whose side are you on?"
"The truth," Wonwoo said, shrugging.
"Okay, rewind," Cheol said, stepping in with his hands up like he was directing traffic. "You’re telling me all that sappy crap we’ve been witnessing for years wasn’t you dating? What was it then? Being bros?”
"Exactly!" Mingyu said, grasping at straws. "Just bros being bros!"
"Bros don’t write each other love letters," DK burst out, flailing his arms. "I saw that note Wonwoo gave you after you cooked him that anniversary dinner."
"It wasn’t a love letter!" Mingyu said, turning beet red. "It was a thank-you note."
"Framed on your wall," Joshua added smoothly, still not looking up from his phone.
"What wall? I just pinned it to the fridge!" Mingyu corrected like it would make a huge difference, voice cracking again.
"With a heart magnet," Woozi said, "...and stickers," and the room erupted into laughter again.
"Shut up!" Mingyu yelled, but it was drowned out by Seungkwan jumping up and pointing at them like a prosecutor in a courtroom.
"And what about Paris, huh?!" Seungkwan demanded. "You two disappeared after that UNESCO event! We SAW you sneaking off to that club! Cheol hyung even trailed you!"
"I didn’t trail them!" S.Coups said, crossing his arms. "I was… inspecting the Parisian nightlife. For cultural enrichment."
"Yeah, sure," Dino said, smirking. "That’s why you came back with a blurry pic of Mingyu grinding on Wonwoo and screaming, ‘I KNEW IT!’ into the group chat."
"I WASN’T GRINDING!" Mingyu shouted, his face now a full-on tomato.
"You were grinding," Wonwoo said, deadpan, and the room lost it again. Seungkwan doubled over, DK started wheezing, and Hoshi fell off the couch entirely.
"STOP!" Mingyu begged, covering his face with his hands. "This is humiliating."
"No, it’s hilarious," Jeonghan said, smirking as he fished the cucumber slice off Joshua’s lap and slapped it back onto his own face. "You two have been so obvious we’ve been placing bets on when you’d figure it out."
"Bets?" Mingyu and Wonwoo said in unison, horrified.
"Yeah," Vernon said, picking his phone back up and scrolling through the footage he’d caught. "I won, by the way. Said you’d crack in Paris. Hoshi thought it’d be Japan again."
"Japan was a close call," Hoshi said, climbing back onto the couch with a grin.
"Remember when Mingyu got lost in Shibuya, and Wonwoo hunted him down like a GPS tracker? Then hugged him for, like, ten minutes in the middle of the street?"
"That was a normal hug!" Mingyu said desperately.
"Normal hugs don’t last ten minutes," Joshua said, finally closing his phone to join the roasting. "Normal hugs don’t include Wonwoo whispering, Don’t scare me like that again, either."
Wonwoo’s ears turned pink. "I didn’t whisper that."
"You did," Woozi said, smirking now. "I was there. I heard it. I wanted to die."
"AND WHAT ABOUT THE HOODIES?!" DK yelled, back on his feet and waving his arms like a lunatic. "You two swap hoodies like it’s a blood pact! Mingyu’s been wearing Wonwoo’s cat hoodie for weeks."
"It’s comfortable!" Mingyu said defensively.
"And Wonwoo’s been sleeping in your oversized one," Dino added, grinning like a gremlin. "I caught him napping in it last month."
"It smells nice," Wonwoo mumbled, then immediately regretted it when the room exploded again.
"Wait, wait," S.Coups said, holding up the baguette like a microphone now. "Let’s recap. You’ve been cooking each other meals, holding hands, writing notes, swapping clothes, grinding in Paris clubs—"
"Allegedly," Mingyu interjected.
"—and you thought this was just friendship?" S.Coups finished, incredulous.
Mingyu and Wonwoo stared at each other, the gears visibly turning. "Uh… yeah?" Mingyu said, scratching his head.
"Oh," Wonwoo said softly, blinking like he’d just solved a math problem.
"Oh?!" Seungkwan mocked, throwing a pillow at them. "That’s all you’ve got? Oh?! You’ve been in love for years, you clowns."
"Years?" Mingyu echoed, looking at Wonwoo like he was seeing him for the first time.
"YEARS IT IS!" DK bellowed. "Remember when Wonwoo stayed up all night teaching you that dumb video game because you wouldn’t shut up about it?"
"Or when Mingyu carried Wonwoo across the dorm because he stubbed his toe?" Joshua added, smirking now.
"Twice," Wonwoo said, and Mingyu groaned.
"Or that time in Busan when Mingyu got jealous because some fanboy flirted with Wonwoo and he sulked for three days?" Vernon said, grinning.
"I wasn’t jealous!" Mingyu lied, and the room booed him.
"You were so jealous you wouldn’t let Wonwoo out of your sight," Hoshi said, cackling. "You followed him to the bathroom!"
"You sulked and kept asking me if Wonwoo liked that type," Jun said, mimicking Mingyu’s pout. "I wanted to strangle you."
"That was a coincidence!" Mingyu yelped.
"Sure it was," Jeonghan said, peeling the cucumber off his face again. "Just like it’s a coincidence you two ended up dating in the most romantic city on Earth."
"Paris really clocked you," Vernon said wisely, nodding. "City of Love said fix your shit and you still almost missed it."
"Okay, fine!" Mingyu said, throwing his hands up. "Maybe we’ve been… a little obvious."
"A little?" Seungkwan roared, and Joshua had to physically hold him back from charging them. "You two are so dense.”
"Alright, enough!" Seungcheol said, slamming the baguette on the table so hard it snapped in half. "You’re dating now, great. But you owe us for years of emotional labor watching you pine."
"And you’re kissing right now," Hoshi added, clapping like a seal. "For closure!"
"No way," Wonwoo said, crossing his arms tighter.
"DO IT!" Dino chanted, joined by DK and Hoshi in a full-on cheer squad.
Mingyu looked at Wonwoo, who sighed like a man facing execution. "Fine. But only to shut them up."
The room went quiet as Mingyu leaned in, hesitated, then gave Wonwoo a quick, awkward peck on the lips. The members groaned, half cheering, half booing, and Seungkwan yelling, "That was WEAK! I want passion!"
"It’s a start," Mingyu said, grinning at Wonwoo, who rolled his eyes but didn’t pull away when Mingyu grabbed his hand.
"Disgusting," Woozi muttered, slamming his laptop shut. "I’m invoicing you both for therapy."
"Bill UNESCO," Mingyu shot back, and the room dissolved into laughter again.
"Paris did you dirty," Vernon said, shaking his head. "Should’ve stayed in Seoul."
"Shut up," Wonwoo said, but he squeezed Mingyu’s hand anyway, and the members groaned at the mushiness.
"Get a room!" Hoshi yelled, throwing the lampshade across the suite.
"We have one," Mingyu said, smirking. "Down the hall."
"Oh my god I cannot stand you," Seungkwan screeched.
