Summary
Tanner Archer is a fourteen-year-old boy who is tormented from his sexual assault by his father when he was a child. After his father’s death, leaving Tanner with a puzzled mind, he begins to explore his unspoken past. Whilst Tanner has internal problems, connecting his soul to ‘the other side’, external problems pop throughout his childhood town, Samridge Pines, when a twelve-year-old girl vanishes. However, the night she disappears, Tanner does too. Waking up clothless on a road he doesn’t recognize, Tanner suffers from the possibility of something dire that haunts his narrative, all stemming down to the night of his sexual assault.
Meanwhile, Deputy Deborah Barley has an overwhelming pressure on her shoulders with the sudden disappearance of 12-year-old Alicia Sparks, the girl who vanished just before Christmas, as well as the discovery of an unidentified bundle of human-child bones.
In the journey she undergoes, gorey secrets begin to emerge from the depths of the town she once called home. And whispers of townspeople grow louder, old stories from the past now becoming prevalent to the dire question, “What happened to Alicia Sparks?”
