Work Header

Late Night, Wedding Night.

Summary:

"Kal, my wonderful husband," Luca calls, pulling his attention to where Luca stands in front of him, one hand held towards Kal while the other hides behind his back. He's got an adorable blush across his face and ears. "Would you dance with me?"

Kal's smile grows into his trademark face-splitting grin. "Yeah!" He knows his face heats as Luca takes the lead despite being shorter. Kal doesn't mind. Luca's better at it, anyway. Kal follows the lead he's given, in return, those wonderful, ethereal wings make an appearance to pull the both of them into the air with Spite holding him up. Kal laughs. This is the most fun he's had in a while.

At the peak of their too-short flight, Luca pulls him in for a loving kiss. His eyes flash purple just long enough for Spite to steal one of his own. Kal uses his own magic to keep them afloat just a little longer.

or

Kal and Lucanis are finally getting married. The occasion is anything but normal.

Takes place between chapters 3 and 4 or Kal, Lucanis, Spit,e and the Family They Made Along the Way.

Work Text:

"Kal! Lucanis!" Teia greets, "Fey!"

"Teia." Luca returns. "What brings you?"

"Catarina and I have been planning, so I thought I'd bring you two into the loop. Vi told you you're getting married, right?"

"Yes," Luca replies.

"Right. Anyway! I came to tell you that while Caterina demanded control of most aspects, I managed to convince her to allow you two to choose the dress code." She sets a large book down on the table nearby. "This is everything we've been discussing so far. I've been making sure she keeps it as close to your tastes as possible. Feel free to look everything over; I have a spare copy." She grins, moving to leave. "Anyway! That's all I came to tell you! Let Vi or I know when you've decided!" Just like that, the Talon's off to do whatever she does all day with Dad.

"Guess we've got plans for today," Kal mutters, strolling over to grab the book Teia left. Flipping through it, it's full of pictures, drawings, and what Kal assumes to be writing.

"What's it look like? Luca inquires, coming to wrap his arms around Kal as he looks over his shoulder. "Looks like they've gotten pretty far." Yeah, but this is their wedding. It's going to be memorable.

"We get to choose the clothes, right?" Kal drags his fiancée to the couch, letting their son be a part of this, too. "And everyone has to follow the guidelines?" Kal has a wonderful idea brewing.

Luca gives him a curious look. "Yeah? That's usually how it works."

With a grin, Kal catches Luca's eyes. "Everyone wears kilts. No exceptions." Luca gives him a weird look, mulling over the idea for a few moments.

"So everyone gets to dress like you, Daddy?" Fey asks innocently. Luca blushes. Cute.

"Are you sure we should do that?" Luca asks, breathy and uncertain. "It could cause problems."

Kal cocks his head. "Why? That's the only rule. They can do whatever else they want as long as everyone's in a kilt." Luca visibly relaxes, then pecks a kiss on Kal's cheek.

"Fine. But on one condition."

"Hm?"

"Humor me and wear a shirt for at least the reception."

Kal grins, mind racing with possibilities. "We'll match! And we'll make it so everyone else has to wear completely different tartan!"

Luca smiles at him before it falls. "Illario will be there."

"Yeah." Kal agrees. "You know, you'll have to fully forgive him someday."

"Would you be able to forgive one of your siblings if they did the same thing to you?" Luca asks. Kal thinks about it.

"Probably." He decides. "Sure, I'd probably want to kill them when it happened, but if they were able to explain why they did it and their reasons made sense? Then yeah."

Luca stares at the floor, deciding. "You don't harbor any ill feelings for my cousin?"

Kal smiles at his fiancée, shuffling closer to throw an arm around him. Spite does the same on Luca's other side. "I'm not a fan of how he instigated everything and got you tortured for a year, but then again, that's how we met, and really? I can't be made about that. And sure, he's hurt Allona with his actions, but she insists everything will be fine and that he'll be spending a long time making it up to her." Kal pauses to think for a moment. "I know you have mixed feeling about him. But isn't it worth giving him another chance after everything?" He can see how conflicted Luca is.

"You don't want to kill him?" It's quiet, uncertain. His beautiful Luca is looking for an excuse.

"I did try to kill him if you remember. And you should also remember who stopped me." He knows Luca remembers. "Why stop me if you didn't hope things would get better one day?" An idea comes to mind. "How about this? We'll forgive him after our wedding, but in exchange, we make him suffer just a bit?"

"Do I even want to know what you're thinking?"

Kal grins. "Larry's all about fashion, right? So for our wedding, make him either wear a kilt of his choice and nothing else or give him some stupid boring color and let him do as he pleases! Either way, he's a fashion disaster!" Fey giggles. "He'll even do it because if he's really trying to make up for everything, he'll want to earn your forgiveness. In return for him agreeing to this, you'll have to be prepared to forgive him."

Luca lays his head on Kal's shoulder. "You always make things sound so easy." It comes out with a bitter laugh.

"Is it not?" Kal pecks a kiss on the top of that head.

"Only with you around." Luca mumbles. "Kal?"

"Hm?"

"Love you." Luca declares. "Marry me?"

"'Course!" Kal agrees happily. "Now! I believe we have some planning to do!"

Kal wasn't a fan of clothes on a good day. On a bad, he won't even wear them. There's nothing in this life that bothers him more than fabric rubbing and catching on his tattoos and giving him that incredibly annoying itching that always comes along with it. There's very little he would willingly wear more clothes for, and it seems Luca is the reason if only this one time.

He doesn't have much experience with tailors on account of only wearing kilts. In fact, his entire experience is getting measured once every year or two and then dipping out to let Viago handle ordering him more clothes. Kal's not a fan of the poking and prodding, the measuring, and the feel of cloth samples against his skin.

At least Luca convinced the man to dress him first so Kal could have a break. Luca may not enjoy dressing up as much as Larry, but he can tell his fiancée is enjoying it. Hell, Kal enjoys watching his man get all dressed up. Luca's hot as hell, and he deserves this.

Luca comes out in a kilt with a black and gold tartan. Kal knows immediately that that's the one. Kal grins, fawning over the way Luca looks in that suit jacket and kilt. By the stone, he wants to do things to that man that would probably get them thrown out of here.

"Like that, do you?" Luca purrs.

"Yeah." His face is warm, and he just doesn't care. Luca's too hot for any attempt at caring to happen. The only reason he doesn't take him here and now is because this is the only opening the tailor had for weeks and Luca made him promise not to spoil it.

"Since you gentlemen like this outfit, might I suggest some accent colors?"

"Give him purple and gold." Kal decides without a moment's hesitation. They'll look delicious on his Talon.

"Certainly, sir." The man rushes off to find whatever he needs, so Luca takes the chance to saunter over to him looking like that.

"Like what you see?" Luca growls into his ear. His breath tickles Kal's ear.

"Better be careful, First Talon. Wouldn't want me to end the show early." Kal teases.

"We can't have that." Luca agrees, surprising Kal with a heated, needy kiss before breaking away to tease him back across the room. How rude. He'll have to pay Luca back later.

The only thing keeping Kal from crossing the room himself was the tailor returning with a small collection of items. He holds up some golden buttons and a larger metal accessory Kal didn't recognize.

"What's that?" Comes in inquiry.

"Ah! I had the thought that Ser Dellamorte would look even more dashing with a simple addition." He grabs another piece of the black and gold fabric, drapes it over Luca's left shoulder to hang loosely behind him, and secures it to the front by the larger piece of metal. He's right. The fabric draping around his lover like that improves the whole thing substantially.

"Agreed," Kal states, staring at Luca's ass. That outfit hides just enough for Kal's imagination to go wild. Perhaps he can convince Luca to wear kilts more often?

Kal gets to watch as Luca stays mostly still, letting the tailor adjust, pin, and mark things until he's happy. Luca seems in his element. He must have done this a lot more than Kal ever wants to.

Sadly, all good things must end, so Luca is released to change back into the clothes he came in and it's Kal's turn to try on those stuffy, itchy clothes.

Kal smiles at Luca as he finishes getting Kal dressed. He's literally never worn this much clothing in his life. Still, he's amazed that he doesn't feel nearly as itchy as he'd thought. Luca's tailor is a good one. Doesn't mean Kal's going to be going back any time soon, though.

"There we go. Now, sit. I'll do your hair, then we can get these in." Luca motions to the pairs of gold and silver bands on the stand. Their wedding bands… Or, well, earrings. "When I've finished, you can do mine." Kal smiles, taking the chance to stare dopeily at Luca through the mirror. It's not fair. Why does his husband have to be so hot?

He stares the entire time Luca does his hair, pulling it back into a long, neat braid while leaving some of his shorter bangs to frame the side of his face. He loves that man so much.

"Hey Luca?" Kal mutters, well aware his hot husband can hear him.

"Hm?"

"Marry me?"

Luca smiles at his antics, tying off the braid and moving to get the supplies to add to Kal's collection of piercings. "Yeah." He grins. "I will, now sit still." Kal grins, doing as he was asked as he watches Luca's soft smile. Luca works quietly and quickly, prepping the area and getting the first one in place without much effort.

"Good boy," Luca whispers, knowing exactly what he's doing and that it's dirty even as Kal shivers with the way those two tiny words make him feel. "Now, why don't you keep being a good boy and stay still long enough for me to get this second one in?" Kal preens under his attention. Luca's playing with fire, and he knows it.

Soon enough, Luca's finished and switching seats with Kal. He loves playing with Luca's hair, especially since he's been letting it grow instead of cutting it like he used to. If he plays with it a bit longer than necessary before combing it back into a neat tie, then Luca doesn't say anything.

"Since you don't have any yet, I'll warn you that it will hurt," Kal states as he picks up the gold band. Luca nods. Kal looks at his own new piercings. Silver towards the front with the gold sitting right behind it. Well, he'll just have to do the opposite for Luca. "Ready, love?" Kal whispers into his ear. Luca looks a bit nervous, so Kal flicks his other ear before getting the band in place right at the top of Luca's adorably round ears.

He lets out a cute little hiss of pain before shutting himself up. Kal gives him a moment to recover while he preps the second site. "You're doing well!" Kal leans down, giving Luca a quick hug and a kiss to the top of his head.  He can see Luca's cute blush in the mirror

"Now, keep being my adorable good boy, and this will be over in a moment." Kal revels in the way his words make Luca turn an even hotter shade of red. He gets the silver band in behind the gold while his husband is distracted. "There. All done." Kal congratulates. "Now, we should get going. That chandelier isn't going to swing itself."

"I can't believe I let you talk me into this."

"I can." Kal gets a kiss for his efforts.

Kal sips his non-alcoholic wine as he sits beside Luca, keeping an eye on everything. Their kids are with Viago, behaving well enough for their age. Kal's pretty sure he can feel the buzz of magic coming from that corner, but it doesn't seem to be an issue, so he's content to leave it be for now.

Kal can't help but chuckle when he looks at his Dad. It's clear Teia forced him into the darkly colored kilt and Kal's punishment shirt because he knows Dad would have wanted to come in his normal attire. At least Teia let him keep his gloves.

Aloe's off with Larry, who chose to dress entirely in beige, taking care of baby Nella by the snack table. Lucas and Rosa think they're being subtle, but Kal's fairly certain they're actually making out in that corner. Esha's mingling with Moni, while Neve and Davrin talk about something unrelated. His sister has that look she gets sometimes. What's that one mean again?

That buzz of magic from earlier washes over the room in a frantic way. Kal's gaze shoots over to their kids, where Fey and Meren are trying to calm Leon down while Dad chews someone out. Something happened. Kal pulls Luca with him as he lands nearby. Dirt and rocks swirl in the air, formed by magic and a child's raging emotions. Leon's a mage!

"Watch the other two for a minute?" Kal asks. Luca understands the assignment, taking the older two and moving off. Dad follows quickly. "Leon?" Kal starts, reaching into the now raging whirlwind around his son with his own magic acting a shield. He can't have the outfit Luca had specially made for him damaged. "I know you're scared right now, but Dad's here."

Leon whimpers, so Kal pushes forward. "I know it's scary, but how about you try to listen to me? You know that out-of-control feeling you have right now? Imagine squishing it all into a box and sitting on the lid." Kal inches closer. "I'm going to touch you now, okay?" His son sniffles, nodding slightly. Kal reaches for him, pulling the boy into his arms and surrounding them with magic. "I know it's scary." He wipes at the tears running from his son's one eye.

The whirlwind starts dying down. "Good. You're doing great, Leon! Just a little more!" The boy grabs Kal's clothes, burying himself in them and beginning to calm down. "There you go. Dad's here. You're safe." His magic has finally weakened enough for Kal to cut it off himself. He does just that, wrapping his son with his magic as a precautionary measure.

"Dada?" Leon asks.

"Yeah. It's me." Kal reassures the toddler.

"Scawy."

"What is?"

Leon frowns with tears still streaming down his face. "Han!" He waves his hands wildly, nearly hitting Kal in the face. Did that asshole bump into his kid without apologizing or saying anything? Should he stab him? No. Not this time. He can already see Viago poisoning the poor bastard.

"That must have been scary to have someone touch you unexpectedly." Leon hums in agreement. Kal ruffles his son's hair. "You've been really brave today! Do you want to stay longer, or would you like to take a nap?"

"Stay! Nap!" Leon snuggles closer, letting himself fall asleep in Kal's arms. Kal runs his fingers through his son's hair, smiling gently. He'll have to speak with Emmrich about getting Leon some magic lessons when he has a chance.

Rosa comes up to him. "Would you like me to take him, my Lord?"

He considers the offer, then smiles at her. "Nah. I have him." Besides, Leon might freak out again if he wakes up alone, and someone's going to have to be there to stop any rampaging magic.

"As you wish, my Lord." Rosa smoothly makes her way back to the sidelines and back to Lucas. Kal turns, only to see everyone looking his way. Rude. There's a whole party to enjoy.

"Why don't we get back to it?" Luca tries, letting Fey and Meren run off once more while Viago drags his victim outside. Well, hopefully, Dad's not too hard on that guy. "How's Leon doing?" He's asked once Luca returns to his side.

Kal takes them over to some of the seating on the edge of the room. "Tired. Scared. Someone bumped into him and spooked him into manifesting his magic. We're going to have to work with him on control as soon as possible."

"Why? Why. Hurt. Leon?" Spite asks, clearly confused.

Luca responds for him. "It was an accident, Spite. These things happen." Spite pouts, but that's alright. He's mostly trying to piece it together.

"We hurt them?" Spite offers.

"Viago's already on it."

Luca looked mildly alarmed. "That fast?"

"He was already dealing with it when we got there. I saw him drag the guy out a few minutes ago." Kal leans against his husband. "Enough of that. Let's just enjoy this."

Luca smiles into a kiss. "Whatever you say."

Kal falls into bed, tired and exhausted and long since naked. Luca follows him. "Tired?" Luca smiles as Spite manifests to cuddle into Kal’s side.

"A bit." Kal snuggles as close to Luca as he can with Spite in the way. He doesn’t want to day to end quite yet. "Will you read to us?"

Luca smiles, bending down to place a kiss on Kal’s forehead. "As you wish." He shuffles out of bed to find a book. Meanwhile, Kal peels Spite off of him enough that he can get adjusted and ready to listen.

Spite perks up, "Reading time?"

"Yes, Spite," Luca calls from where he pulls a book off the shelf. "Reading time." Spite cheers, then moves off to the other side of the bed so Luca can slot between them. Kal waits until Luca’s situated, then adjusts so his head is lying on his husband’s chest. Spite snuggles into Luca’s other side. Their blanket ends up halfway covering them.

"Ready?" Kal nods, eager to hear his husband’s voice despite the day spent together. There’s nothing better than sleepy cuddles while listening to Luca reading. If Kal falls asleep in minutes with one of Luca’s hands around his shoulders, then neither of his partners mentions it.
