Chapter Text
Thomas felt a short burst of relief as he watched his gun slide across the floor. His mood was crushed instantly however when Newt turned back to him and madness bubbled in his eyes again.
Newt clawed and tried to bite Thomas but was thrown off. He tumbled onto the floor and caught his breath. Thomas knelt beside him, also panting, and watched Newt intently.
Was he still breathing? Was he sane again?
His answer came quickly as a flash of metal slid past his throat. Thomas toppled backwards in shock at the sudden movement and Newt took the opportunity to pin Thomas down.
Thomas stared at up Newt, his heart frozen. His friend was straddling him and panting heavily, his eyes wild.
“Newt!” Thomas gasped as he saw a dagger glint above him.
He reacted quickly and restrained Newt’s wrists the best he could but the boy was too strong. Newt roared defiantly and battled with Thomas, succeeding in inflicting a wound on his chest.
Thomas howled in pain and shoved Newt off of him. Before Newt could regain his balance, Thomas grit his teeth and punched Newt hard in the face. He wanted to cry, to hug him and apologise, but he shot to his feet and stumbled backwards.
Newt trembled as he stood but planted his feet on the ground firmly, looking up at Thomas. For a brief moment, Thomas saw something different in Newt’s eyes.
It lasted only for a split second, but it was still there. The madness in Newt’s eyes was replaced by pity. Thomas had no time to dwell on it however as Newt lunged at him once more, swinging the blade in an arch.
Thomas yelped and jumped backwards and Newt lumbered towards him. He was about to just flee backwards but something stopped him. A subtle look, a small flick of the wrist-
Thomas roared and stepped forwards, shoving Newt to the ground. The dagger that was suddenly pointed towards Newt’s own chest clattered to the ground. Newt scrambled to pick it up but Thomas seized it and pointed it at himself.
“Calm it or I stab myself!”
