Always and Forever

Summary:

After getting engaged, Chuuya became increasingly stressed with the wedding planning and becomes somewhat of a bridezilla, especially as the wedding date approaches… Dazai is worried.

But, Dazai being Dazai, is always prepared.

Or, scenarios of Chuuya losing his shit over things going “wrong” with his wedding with Dazai not knowing what to do.

So! He employs the help of the Agency and Port Mafia to make it as seamless as possible for his beautiful husband-to-be!

+ my poor attempt at making Chuuya a bridezilla

Notes:

I was thinking of a certain bridezilla in Shameless and thought “omfg Chuuya would definitely be a bridezilla” so I had to write it

This was also inspired by the fact the Nagoya High Court ruled Japan’s ban on same-sex marriage as unconstitutional :3

Work Text:

SEVEN MONTHS UNTIL THE WEDDING

Dazai watched with bated breath as Chuuya paced back and forth, his frustrated arm movements making Dazai flinch back with concern.

With another huff of anger, Chuuya hung up the phone and threw it onto the sofa, his gloved fists clenched and jaw tightening. “Stupid fucking caterer!” He shouted.

Dazai blinked. “What happened?” He asked, approaching his fiancé (god, Dazai loved saying that) with hesitance.

“This fuckhead told me he can’t cater us because of our lifestyle’. Can you believe that?! Ignorant morons in this day and age?!” Chuuya may have looked like he wanted to kill someone, but Dazai felt amused by his growls of annoyance. “But we had the company booked three months ago? They’re making a fuss now?” Dazai pursed his lips with a curious tilt of his head.

Chuuya slammed his hat onto the rack by the door, “exactly!” He proclaimed. “I sent them pictures of us so they knew how to style the little—you know, the little figurines on the cake. When he saw that, numbnuts went ballistic and squirrelly with his whiny ass voice, ‘y-you’re both men?!’ Like no shit, you illiterate bastard! I told you this three fucking months ago!”

”Unfortunately, that is to be expected.” Dazai sighed with a shake of his head. “This is ridiculous!” Chuuya put his head in his hands as he sat down, fingers curling into his hair, tightening around the orange strands. Dazai sat next to him and began rubbing his shoulders. “Calm down. We’ll find someone to cater for us. I’m sure the Agency has some connections.”

Chuuya looked at him, his gaze softening as he leaned into Dazai’s touch. “One hurdle crossed.” He mumbled. Dazai chuckled and pressed a kiss on the top of his head.

FIVE MONTHS UNTIL THE WEDDING

Dazai walked out of his and Chuuya’s shared room to see Chuuya on the phone again in the kitchen, the small tap of his foot and index finger told Dazai he was barely keeping his cool.

He strolled over and kissed his cheek, nuzzling into his neck and feeling the shorter ease up with a soft smile replacing his death glare at nothing in particular.

“Yeah. Got it. Let me know if there’s an update.” Chuuya grumbled, setting his phone aside with a groan. “Another mishap?” Dazai guessed.

Chuuya bristled, “you know those crystal chandeliers I told you about?” He leaned against the kitchen island with a look of tired sigh. Dazai nodded, “you were very proud of them.” He teased.

Apparently, the venue we’re renting out is being pissy over it.” Chuuya started, rolling his eyes with a scoff. “Something about ‘not wanting to remove the current light fixtures’ even though the ones they have are trashy and blinding!”

“What?! But we deserve to get married in married in luxury!” Dazai gasped, clutching Chuuya’s shoulders with a look of disbelief. Chuuya nodded, “I tried to argue, saying I’d pay extra, but nooooo! They want to keep the ugly ass chandeliers they have currently. Fucking assholes.” He hissed.

Dazai pouted and brought his hands to Chuuya’s face, “I’ll find a way to make them change their mind.” He smiled. Chuuya made a face, “they won’t budge.” He reminded.

“Yeah, but they weren’t talking to me! Call ‘em back, I’ll see what I can do.” Dazai insisted, scrunching up his nose. Chuuya sighed, but obliged and handed Dazai the phone.

Dazai hummed softly to Chuuya and walked off, holding his finger up before leaving into the other room.

Chuuya groaned and shook his head in despair. “Flowers, flower arrangements, seating, book the honeymoon, meet with the new caterers, finish designing the invitations… geez.” Chuuya breathed.

”Problem solved, my love!” Dazai sang as he reentered, Chuuya looked over, brows furrowed, “how did you—“ he paused, realizing who he was talking to, “you used your Port Mafia torture methods, didn’t you?”

Dazai gave him an innocent smile and slipped Chuuya’s phone back into his pocket. “Perhaps.”

Chuuya snorted, stroking Dazai’s cheek affectionately, “you’re a scary man.” He mused. Dazai rose his brows suggestively, “and you’re marrying this scary man.” He playfully bit at Chuuya’s hand, his eyes holding Chuuya’s gaze.

”You bet your sweet ass I am. We’re going to have the most perfect wedding ever.” Chuuya used his free hand to pull Dazai closer, giving him a kiss.

FOUR MONTHS UNTIL THE WEDDING

Chuuya stared intently at the suit before him, a low grumble in his throat. “White?” He enunciated, looking at Kouyou as she sipped her tea.

The woman shrugged. “It’s a traditional color, lad.” She reasoned. Chuuya huffed and crossed his arms. “This isn’t exactly a traditional wedding! I can’t wear white.” He glared.

”White doesn’t only symbolize purity. It symbolizes innocence and new beginnings, as well.” Kouyou gestured weakly to it, “at least try it on.”

Chuuya sighed. “Innocence and new beginnings doesn’t suit Osamu and I’s relationship in the slightest. We covered new beginnings when we reunited, and we are far from innocent.”

Kouyou made a face.

“Not like that!” He groaned, “if either of us would wear white, it’d be ‘Samu. He looks better in white than I do, anyways.”

“Why are you barely doing the suit fitting in the first place?” Kouyou sighed, standing up and looking around for another suit that would suit the ginger.

“I’ve been busy. Juggling work, the planning—things’ve been stressful.” Chuuya rubbed his temples tiredly, “Osamu’s been helpful, at least.”

Kouyou hummed. “Well, he is the man you’re marrying. I’d have hoped you picked a good life-partner.”

Chuuya chuckled softly, strolling on the row of suits. The eye-catching details of black and red made him stop in his tracks. His eyes sparkled.

He could see himself getting married to Dazai in this.

His heart swelled, a gentle breath escaping him as he felt the material. “It’s perfect…” he whispered.

Kouyou walked over, blinking. “My, it is lovely.” She agreed. “Try it on.”

“Oh! Sorry!” The worker hurried over and stopped them, “this one is reserved for someone else.”

Chuuya froze, looking over with bewilderment, “what?” He murmured. “Yeah, must’ve been a mix up. Sorry about that.” The worker bowed with a weak chuckle. Chuuya gulped, his fists clenched.

“Reserved?! Reserved?! Are you fucking kidding me?!” Chuuya shouted angrily as he stormed back into his and Dazai’s shared apartment. Dazai perked up from his spot on the sofa, laptop in hand as he scrolled through a site dedicated to honeymoons.

“What’s wrong?” Dazai asked, immediately springing to his feet over to Chuuya. “I saw the most perfect suit today, ‘Samu. It was perfect!” Chuuya clung onto Dazai’s shirt, groaning.

Dazai frowned. “And the store already had it reserved.” He finished.

”Everything has been going wrong, and we still have so much to do! The cake, the photographer is pregnant like an idiot, the florists said the flowers could arrive late! For fuck’s sake…” he stressed.

Dazai held Chuuya in his arms, “shhh, shhh… it’s gonna work out.” He murmured.

”But, ‘Samu, you didn’t see it.” Chuuya practically cried, his voice breaking slightly. Dazai hugged him tighter. “If it’s important to you, it’s important to me. I’ll see what I can do to fix this for you, my love, okay?” He smiled softly, cupping Chuuya’s face.

”I need to lay down.” Chuuya looked away. He kissed Dazai on the cheek and walked off. Dazai stared after him sadly.

He had remembered how excited Chuuya was when Dazai first proposed (apparently, Chuuya himself had already been planning his own proposal to Dazai, but, as always, Dazai beat him to the punch).

Chuuya had always had such a clear vision of his wedding, even when they were just pining teenagers. Chuuya knew what he wanted, and Dazai wanted to provide that for him, the best he could. But everything had been falling apart.

Chuuya was constantly stressed and tired from work or planning, so he and Dazai hardly had any time together.

Mori had decided he’d be paying for everything because he had apparently planned this from the moment the two met, yet he didn’t do shit to lessen Chuuya’s load of assignments.

Dazai was going have to deploy his own team of people to help.

THREE MONTHS UNTIL THE WEDDING

Chuuya had still been broken up about the suit, and understandably so. Chuuya’s taste was so amazingly ingrained into Dazai’s mind that he could picture it alone from how Chuuya described it (vague as it was, but soulmatism did most of the work).

Even though there were three more months to go, there was still so much left to do. So, Dazai, being the loving fiancé he is, had organized a meeting between the Agency and core members of the Mafia to make sure this wedding was absolutely perfect for Chuuya’s vision.

“Does everyone understand the plan?” Dazai asked, scanning the room with his arms crossed. It was rare to see Dazai so serious, but it was refreshing to Kunikida.

“The suit is reserved to someone else, Dazai.” Yosano pointed out, “how can we possibly get it? By breaking in? We’re detectives.” She sighed.

”Were you not paying attention, Yosano?” Dazai made a face, “the plan is to use Tanizaki and Kyouka to retrieve the suit from the place on twenty-third.” Dazai pointed to the map on a bulletin board behind him.

Kunikida rubbed his temples. “That is incredibly illegal.” He reminded him.

“Cool story, don’t care! Akutagawa and Atsushi, you boys are going to deal with the flowers and meet with these three different photographers to replace the pregnant woman. She doesn’t want to do it anymore now that she’s with child. But I hope you can work well together for mine and Chuuya’s sake?”

Akutagawa seemed annoyed, his eyes narrowed and his jaw tensed with clear indication he was baring his teeth like an angered animal. “Yes.” He forced out. Atsushi shot him a look. “We’ll do our best, Dazai.”

”Kenji, you’re on the duty of meeting with the string quartet. Make sure they can’t back out and be incredibly persistent!” Dazai pointed at the boy with a firm nod. Kenji lit up, “you got it!” He beamed.

“Yosano, Ranpo, meet with the caterers and help narrow down the menu. I trust your pallet, Ranpo, can help with that.” Dazai turned to them with a a suspicious look. Yosano nodded, “sounds easy enough.”

“Kunikida, your job is to help me make sure everything stays in order with what we have currently—such as the venue, the guest list, the hotel near the venue, etcetera, etcetera.”

Kunikida sighed, “just send me their contact information.” He muttered.

”Tachihara, Gin, you will help with the invitations and the calligrapher. Keep it as fancy and classy as possible, don’t issue an invite towards Verlaine.” He turned to the duo with a slow nod to make sure. Tachihara shakily nodded, “I can use my Hunting Dog connections to make sure security is good. Having two of the strongest organizations in Yokohama gathering in one place would attract enemies.” He added.

Dazai grinned, “fantastic! You do that.” He then looked at Higuchi, “lastly, Higuchi, I request that you help Chuuya as much as possible when at work. Make sure he doesn’t get stressed, or frustrated, got it?”

“Yes, sir.” She gave him a curt nod.

“Great! Everyone… break!”

ONE MONTH UNTIL THE WEDDING

”Thirty days.” Chuuya murmured. “Are you nervous?” He looked over at Dazai on the couch. Since Dazai enacted his super secret plan, Chuuya had been less stressed and worked up about everything—even having more free time. He was still glum over the suit (which Dazai was keeping secret until the wedding day), but found a suit he loved almost as much.

“Nope!” Dazai grinned, “thirty more days until we tie the knot and you become stuck with me until the day we die.” He tucked a strand of hair behind Chuuya’s ear, kissing his cheek.

”We die?” Chuuya implored, a brow raised with an amused smirk. “The only way I see us dying is together when we’re well into our sixties and leaping off the Port Mafia building to enter the afterlife side by side.” Dazai curled a hand into Chuuya’s hair affectionately.

Chuuya leaned into his touch, “oh, yeah? We commit a double suicide together? Thought you wanted to do that with a beautiful woman?”

“Ah, but Chuuya’s much better than a beautiful woman.” Dazai hummed, “his beauty rivals the goddess Aphrodite.” He pressed a kiss to his neck, his free hand rubbing his chest tentatively.

Chuuya chuckled, letting out a soft sound of pleasure once Dazai nipped his skin. “Is your suit picked out, ‘Samu?”

Dazai nodded, “‘course.” He slipped his hand under Chuuya’s shirt. Chuuya shuddered, pulling Dazai into a deep kiss.

“Where do you wanna honeymoon?” Dazai asked between kisses, tilting his head with a soft moan spilling into Chuuya’s mouth when the latter grabbed onto his hair. “Europe.” Chuuya replied.

Dazai let out a laugh and slipped off his over-shirt, “all of Europe? My, my.”

Chuuya slipped his button up back over his shoulders, hickeys and bite marks scattered along his upper torso. “So,” he breathed, “where in Europe do you want to go first?” He prompted the brunet.

Dazai pulled his pants over his waist, not bothering to button them up. “France, obviously.” He rolled his eyes teasingly. Chuuya flicked at his nose with a playful narrowing of his eyes. “We should go to Germany, too.”

“Anywhere but England. The Order of the Clock Tower might try and cause us some trouble.” Dazai remarked. Chuuya snorted, “of course, princess.”

”Ooh, I want to see Scotland.” Dazai grinned, “maybe Chuuya can see some fellow redheads.” He kissed his head, holding Chuuya’s face in his hand as he did so. Chuuya smiled and batted at his hand gently. “Yeah, yeah.” He sighed.

SEVEN DAYS UNTIL THE WEDDING

Chuuya dragged his pen along a notepad, all things for the wedding being checked off one by one.

“‘Samu, you said you had calligraphy, photography, invitations, and catering dealt with, right?” He rushed over to him, a worried look on his face with his hand shaking in a panic.

”Yep! I said I’d handle it, and I did. You were taking on too much.” He kissed his temple with a smirk. Chuuya sighed in relief. “And the chosen courses are something we both picked?”

Dazai nodded, “for the appetizers its mini crab cakes, for the main course it’s, as you wished, grilled lamb chops with melted cheese and a spicy baked seafood platter, and desert is cannoli cheesecake.”

Chuuya nodded. “Good. Good.” He murmured.

“Are you nervous?” Dazai asked, giving Chuuya a look of concern. Chuuya hesitated before nodding again, swallowing a lump in his throat, “not because of you, you made everything way easier than it could have been. I’m just worried the whole thing is gonna go  south and everything will be ruined.” He rested his head on Dazai’s chest with a groan.

Dazai smiled softly. “Calm down. I won’t let anything happen. We’ve wanted to get married since we were little lovesick sixteen year olds. That’s nine whole years, Chuuya.”

“Nothing bad will happen.” Chuuya affirmed.

”Nothing bad will happen!” Dazai repeated.

THE DAY OF THE WEDDING—SEPTEMBER 20th

Chuuya entered his fitting room to see the same suit he saw at the store months ago. His eyes went wide, slowly approaching it and gingerly grazing his fingers over its surface.

He smiled softly, shaking his head. “Stupid Osamu.” He murmured.

Dazai must’ve looked deathly pale the moment he saw Chuuya in that suit. The black and red starkly contrasted the white and blue of Dazai’s suit—Chuuya must have known Dazai would wear white. No one knows them better than each other, after all.

Chuuya fell in love all over again when he met Dazai’s gaze down at the alter. His ears barely registered what the officiate was even saying, focusing solely on Dazai and his pretty brown eyes and all too loving smile. His hands squeezed around Dazai’s, growing tearful.

”I do.”

”I knew, by the way.” Chuuya mused. His hand clasped around Dazai’s in the backseat of their car, his thumb rubbing circles into Dazai’s ring finger.

Dazai blinked inquisitively. “Know what?”

Chuuya chuckled and shook his head. “What you did.”

Dazai shrugged. “I have no idea what Chuuya is saying. Maybe he’s too drunk.” He nuzzled his nose into his hair, smelling their shared shampoo.

“I can see right through you, you know.” Chuuya rolled his eyes, “I know you got everyone to help to make sure things went smoothly. Thank you.” He brought Dazai’s hand to his mouth, pressing a kiss to his knuckles.

Dazai grinned. “I’d do anything for my beautiful husband.”
