The first rays of Coruscant’s morning sun filtered through the gauzy curtains, casting soft golden patterns across the room. Obi-Wan Kenobi stirred first, his senses slowly awakening to the quiet hum of speeders in the distance and the faint warmth beside him. He turned his head, his gaze landing on Cody, still fast asleep.
The peaceful expression on Cody’s face made Obi-Wan’s chest ache in the most pleasant way. The war had taken so much from them both—friends, brothers, and years of their lives. But it had given them this too: a chance to build something in the quiet aftermath.
Obi-Wan shifted closer, his hand brushing against Cody’s under the sheets. The touch was featherlight, but it drew a soft murmur from Cody, his brow furrowing briefly before relaxing again. Obi-Wan smiled, his fingers now tracing the faint lines of scars on Cody’s arm—marks of the battles they’d survived together.
“Staring won’t get you out of making breakfast,” Cody murmured, his voice husky with sleep, though his eyes remained closed.
Obi-Wan chuckled, the sound soft. “Good morning to you too.”
Cody cracked one eye open, and the sight of his lopsided grin made Obi-Wan’s heart skip. “Morning,” Cody said, his voice gentler now.
“I was going to bring you caf in bed,” Obi-Wan admitted, brushing a stray lock of hair from Cody’s forehead.
“You still can,” Cody teased, but his hand caught Obi-Wan’s wrist, holding him there. His thumb stroked over Obi-Wan’s pulse point, a subtle gesture that carried more affection than words ever could.
The weight of Cody’s gaze was heavy but tender, his brown eyes tracing the lines of Obi-Wan’s face as though committing them to memory. Obi-Wan felt his cheeks warm under the scrutiny. “What?” he asked softly.
“Nothing,” Cody replied, his voice low and intimate. “Just thinking about how lucky I am.”
Obi-Wan’s lips parted in surprise, but Cody didn’t give him time to respond. He tugged gently on Obi-Wan’s wrist, guiding him closer until their foreheads rested together.
The simple gesture stilled the rest of the world. For a moment, there was no war, no galaxy, no responsibilities—just the steady rhythm of their breathing and the warmth they shared.
“You’ve gone sentimental in your old age,” Obi-Wan teased, though his voice lacked its usual sharpness.
“You like it,” Cody countered, his grin widening.
Obi-Wan huffed, but he didn’t pull away. “Perhaps.”
They stayed like that for a long moment before Obi-Wan finally broke the spell, brushing a lingering kiss to Cody’s temple. “Stay here,” he said softly. “I’ll get the caf.”
Cody made a noise of protest but let him go, though his gaze followed Obi-Wan as he slipped from the bed, pulling on a soft robe.
When Obi-Wan returned with two steaming mugs, Cody was propped up against the headboard, one arm slung over his knee. The golden light from the window bathed him in a way that made Obi-Wan’s heart stutter. Cody looked up and smiled—a rare, unguarded smile that Obi-Wan treasured.
“You spoil me,” Cody said as he took his mug, their fingers brushing in the exchange.
“You deserve it,” Obi-Wan replied simply, sitting down beside him.
They sipped their caf in comfortable silence, watching as the city below began to bustle with life. Cody set his mug aside first, his hand finding Obi-Wan’s and lacing their fingers together.
“Let’s go somewhere,” Cody said suddenly, his tone thoughtful.
Obi-Wan turned to him, curious. “Where?”
“Anywhere,” Cody said, squeezing his hand. “Just the two of us. Somewhere quiet. Somewhere... far from here.”
Obi-Wan tilted his head, a small smile playing at his lips. “Running away with me, are you?”
“Maybe I am,” Cody said, his grin softening into something serious. “We deserve some peace, Obi-Wan. I want that for us.”
Obi-Wan’s chest tightened, his thumb brushing over Cody’s knuckles. “We’ll go,” he promised, his voice thick with emotion. “Wherever you want.”
Cody’s smile returned, and he tugged Obi-Wan closer until their foreheads touched once more. “Good,” he murmured. “But for now, I just want this.”
Obi-Wan closed his eyes, letting the moment wash over him. The city hummed beyond their windows, but here, in this quiet space they had carved for themselves, nothing else mattered.
“I love you,” Obi-Wan whispered, the words slipping out unbidden but not unwelcome.
Cody’s breath hitched, his grip tightening on Obi-Wan’s hand. “I love you too.”
The galaxy outside could wait. For now, all that mattered was this.
