Summary
Sharing a college dorm room came with certain advantages and disadvantages. Advantage wise, it sure made finding a study group a lot easier when Viktor had a live-in study buddy ten feet across the room from him for any project-related problem he encountered. Different majors, same school, which meant shared core classes, which further meant strategic room sharing. It was just basic logic.
Besides the studying advantage, it was also financially advisable to offset housing costs by splitting the bill, and money - Viktor had come to find out - was not something that he had in spades. R1 research institutions meant more than just promising doctoral research; it meant money, and lots of it to be able to attend. He was barely scraping by from the tuition costs by themselves, and if sharing a room with another student made it easier on him, then by god he was going to do it.
