Summary
Evan can’t look up at the other man. He knows. Knows that one room is too small for all three of them. Knows that, no matter who’s on the other side of the door, it’s not enough of them. Bobby would’ve told him if the kids were safe and with his sister. If things were actually even a little bit okay, Bobby would’ve told him.
But he’s said nothing.
His gaze shifts over to the number on the door. 335. He reaches out and puts his hand on the door, forces another breath down.
Pushes it open.
The rhythmic sound of machines meet his ears almost immediately. He can hear the ECG tracking a heartbeat, the pressure of oxygen coming through a ventilator. The room smells awfully of antiseptic and burn cream, and by the time his eyes fall on his husband, any ounce of his will to keep going lies at his feet like his son’s forgotten security blanket.
OR: The worst day of Evan Buckley's life comes to fruition, and it's his undoing. Their people are left to pick up the pieces of each other in the aftermath.
