The Kingdom of Skill - Adventures of the Party Crashers

Summary:

This is a basic rundown of my Party Crashers AU, inspired by a comment on the listed video. (Thanks to @Luminar1a for the inspiration 💜)

More details will be in the fic. If you'd rather skip the backstories and go straight to the tales, I don't mind. However, this fic will provide some much-needed context for the stories ahead, so I recommend you give it a thorough read.

Without further ado, let's get to it!

Work Text:

Hi! If you came here expecting a completed fic, I'm sorry to say you came to the wrong place.

HOWEVER! This fic will act as a backstory record for my new AU involving the Party Crashers! I highly recommend you read through this as it will provide some much-needed context for the stories ahead.

(Also check out their videos, they are highly entertaining)

The AU takes place in the Kingdom of Skill, a prosperous kingdom nestled in the heart of a faraway land known as Zenilia. (The Kingdom of Skill is always referred to as the Kingdom of Skill, as just "Skill" sounds weird.) The Kingdom of Skill is ruled by Brent, the young yet fair King of Skill after he inherited the throne from his father.

Prince Nicholas the Third (Nick for short) is Brent's adopted brother from the late kingdom of Glenshire after it was destroyed in an enemy attack and he was left as the sole survivor. Having been robbed of the throne by outside forces (as he had been the heir to the throne of Glenshire), he tends to harbor some jealousy towards Brent, whom he sees as his biggest rival.

Vernias, or Vern for short, is one of Brent's royal advisors. He is an animal whisperer trained in healing and restoration magic. He can be somewhat timid at times, but he isn't afraid to stand up to bullies and bad guys - especially if they try to harm his friends. Vern and Nick are best friends, even if their petty squabbling shows otherwise.

Sophist is a chaotic sorcerer and the one that the others tend to be extra careful about. Unlike Vernias, Sophist was not trained in his magic; rather, he learned on his own through trial and error - mostly error, he wouldn't ever care to admit. Since Brent doesn't trust him to live in the castle out of fear of him blowing it up, Sophist instead lives in a tower to the east of the Kingdom of Skill, where he practices his weather-related spells. (His favorite to cast is Thunder Spell, much to the horror of the citizens.)

Some other things to take note:

- Brent tries his best to be a fair ruler in the eyes of his people, although he isn't afraid to let Nick temporarily take the throne should he need any sort of rest or recovery.

- Ever since the destruction of Glenshire, Nick has had an unfortunate trauma trigger relating to fire.

- Vernias has small wings that allow him to hover, although they're not strong enough for sustained flight.

- Sophist has a tendency to vehemently deny his mistakes. When they finally catch up to him, he ends up wallowing in a pit of self-depreciation and guilt, along with a fierce determination to make things right. (Even though he's the one who caused the mess)

- Brent has lost count of the number of times he's had to reassure the citizens that what they think is a massive storm in the early hours of the morning is "just Sophist".

- Nick has a small white scepter that he uses to gently bonk people's faces - especially Vernias when they're in the middle of an argument.

- Vernias hates being called "Verny" and will often aggressively throw hands with anyone who uses it consecutively or on purpose.

- Sophist has a pink-jewel-topped purple cane that he often uses as a club. The cane itself holds no magical power; he just likes to act like it does.

That's basically all there is to it! I hope you enjoy the stories ahead.

Notes:

Oh yeah! I almost forgot to mention:

Nick possesses a power that has been passed down from his ancestors - his "Smash Shield", two glowing orange shields on his arms. Powerful yet temporary, they can be used for both attack and defense.
