Work Text:
“Does Pen look like she is enjoying herself?”
Colin couldn’t help observing Pen dance with Lord Debling. It felt like decades since he last had the privilege to share a dance with her.
“She does,” Anthony sighed beside him. “And speaking of Miss Featherington, mother asked me to speak with you about something. In light of recent and approaching events, we think it is time you start addressing her the way you ought to.”
This caught Colin’s attention who finally looked away from the last motions of the Quadrille.
“Whatever do you mean, brother?”
“You still call her Pen. Not even Penelope, but Pen. A young lady that is not your sister and even worse, a young lady who is soon to be married. You had better familiarize yourself with calling her Lady Debling.”
“She is not yet married. Not even betrothed.”
“She will be. Lord Debling made his intentions clear and asked for Lady Featherington’s permission. She will receive a proposal any day now.”
Behind Anthony he saw Penelope approaching and raised his voice while holding her gaze: “You are right, brother. She will receive one this very evening in fact. Tell mother, she has nothing to worry about. I will no longer be calling her by her Christian name. Instead, I will just call her mine. Now if you will excuse me, the future Mrs. Colin Bridgerton owes me a dance.”
