It’s, admittedly, a little cliche.
Perhaps, an even more gaudy and extravagant display than either of them would normally prefer.
But alas, this particular day is host to a decidedly momentous occasion, and, fittingly, no expense was spared in ensuring that the celebrants would be thoroughly entertained at the least, and positively gobsmacked, overjoyed, almost hysterical with delight at most.
Today is the day that much beloved Pro Footballers Yoichi Isagi and Rin Itoshi promise forever to each other; their union officially solidified, both legally and symbolically.
It won’t necessarily be the first time they ever shared the sentiment between themselves- many quiet evenings and nights spent curled up in each other's embrace were underscored by hushed whispers and giggles, all consisting of heartfelt promises of a love everlasting- but it will certainly be for the first time in front of an audience, even if it does mostly consist of just their families and friends.
Their chosen venue is somewhat secluded from the outside world, but no less grandiose- a small castle, fitting to serve as the backdrop for the coming together of the current undisputed “Kings of the Pitch.”
The ceremony hall is bathed in warm, ambient light; crystal chandeliers and gold candelabras are placed strategically around the space, illuminating the way for guests and, eventually, both grooms and their respective groomsmen.
Fresh flowers of varying, but evidently intentional, type sit in vases dotted throughout the hall as well, adding a pleasant, natural fragrance that is, thankfully, not overwhelming.
The other decorations- from lace trimmings to even the aisle runner- were mostly hand-picked by Yoichi.
He, perhaps surprisingly, insisted on having a hand in virtually every aspect of the preparation process, even with the aid of their wedding planner.
Rin was, rather expectantly, much more nonchalant and slightly less involved than his fiance, but no less enthusiastic about the prospect of their wedding, though he also wasn’t as apt to show it.
It was more than a little surprising: everything from coordinating the wine and cake tastings to choosing the actual color theme for the ceremony and reception, and, subsequently, ensuring that everything would be visually cohesive, was a process in which Yoichi was passionately involved.
And very, very adept at, oddly enough.
It would seem he’d always had a very specific vision in mind for the day he said “I do,” and both he and Rin were happy to report that that vision had been successfully realized.
In short, everything was beautiful. Intimate, with personal touches indicative of their individual personalities and shared preferences.
Prior to the beginning of the ceremony, both Rin and Yoichi, separated into their respective dressing rooms, could feel the most minute amount of anxiety eke up their spines.
Neither of them were particularly inclined to share such precious, sweet sentiments in public, and emotions- namely, processing and expressing them- was still a somewhat daunting task for both men, as career driven and competitive as they were.
But, even now as they stand, temporarily separate and preparing to walk into the rest of their lives alongside the other, there’s a familiar feeling of excitement and adrenaline that courses through their veins.
It was a rocky, lengthy journey- the one that ultimately led them to fully embracing one another, and that now culminates in this , the most sacred moment of their lives.
For them, however, these two Egoists at heart, the hardest won victories often taste the sweetest.
Once the time arrives, the groomsmen take their places, the guests rising to honor the undisputed stars of the show as they travel, arms interlocked, down the aisle.
There’s tears and bright beams of joy on every side; even the officiant’s delight is palpable.
Once they part, Rin and Yoichi take their places across from one another- watery, bright teal meeting equally as affected sapphire blue.
The officiant- an older gentleman- begins his spiel; vows are exchanged, Yoichi’s being particularly moving, if the tears streaming down Rin’s cheeks are indicative of anything.
They’re lighthearted and heartfelt simultaneously, the shorter striker expressing his wholehearted desire to “spend the rest of our lives taking turns refilling the hand soap dispensers in the bathrooms.”
That got a chuckle out of everyone.
Rin’s vows are slightly more serious, but no less genuine.
He’s still crying, and now so is Yoichi- it’s safe to say this is both the most either of them has ever cried, and most likely the most crying they’ll ever do.
Then comes time to exchange rings- theirs of course were custom made, as only the absolute best was suitable for an occasion as grand and important as this.
The grooms went with simple, but no less stunning, 24k gold bands, engraved with their names and inlaid with gems the color of the other’s eyes.
Slipping the ring onto the other’s finger is a reverent moment for Yoichi and Rin both, and the process takes just a few milliseconds longer than it might for anyone else.
Once it’s done however, the two meet eyes once again, large smiles curling both their mouths upward.
“Isagi Yoichi, do you take Itoshi Rin as your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, to cherish and to love, till death do you part?”
With no hesitation, Yoichi nods, a quiet, firm, “I do” slipping from between his lips.
“And do you, Itoshi Rin, take Isagi Yoichi as your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, to cherish and to love, till death do you part?”
In much the same vein, Rin utters “I do,” never having been more than in this moment about anything in his life.
The officiant smiles, and gives an affirmative nod.
“Then it pleases me to announce that you are officially husband and husband. You may now kiss the groom.”
Raucous applause and cheers fill the space as Rin and Yoichi’s lips connect, everyone in attendance able to feel the very real, very palpable love and adoration shared between the two men for each other.
And once it’s all said and done, and the weight of what they’ve just accomplished- together- settles like a shared comfort on both their shoulders, Yoichi and Rin know beyond a shadow of a doubt that, regardless of what the future brings, they are now united as one.
Inseparably, and in everlasting peace.
