It was matchpoint in Dogebolt right now; Aimsey and Pearl were the two left with just Antfrost on the opposing side. Yeah, Jojo trusted them, but she hated the feeling of not having any input other than minor verbal callouts. Comm was filled with Pearl calming Aimsy and allowing them clear communication. Drawing back their bows simultaneously. Release.
“CYAN COYOTES TAKE THE CROWN” was announced on the speaker alongside cyan fireworks coming from somewhere outside the arena. Both Hannah and her rushed down into the arena as fast as they could to celebrate with the rest of the team. Finally, Pearl's curse was broken, and Jojo had never felt more accomplished in her life. Overwhelmed with her first win, Pearl teared up and embraced all three of them into a hug. The grin on her face grew as Pearl grabbed her hand and excitingly led them to the crowning stage.
Walking through hidden corridors, Aimsey practically bounced on every step while hyping up their victory with Hannah on his side, talking about how well they did in specific games. Pearl squeezed her hand, getting Jojo to look at her. Lowering her voice to a whisper, letting only Jojo hear, she asked, “Should we announce it?” They had been dating for about a month by now but didn't want to go public in case it wasn't anything. Quickly, she nodded with Pearl giggling from excitement, and it was the most adorable thing Jojo ever heard; she would do anything to hear it again.
Now backstage a few MCC organizers all placed crowns on top of their heads before letting them head on stage. Before going through the curtains, Pearl let go of her, and immediately Jojo looked at her with the saddest puppy face ever. “Gotta make it a surprise,” was all that was able to be exchanged before the signal to go went off.
All the contests and watchers screamed as they came out. Jojo had experienced this a couple of times already, so her focus was mainly on Pearl, who had her hands up to her face genuinely crying tears of joy. After 17 consecutive losses, she was finally onstage with everybody specifically excited for her. As announcers called each one out on the team, Pearl composed herself, and when they were done, pulled Jojo in for a quick peck on the cheek in front of everybody.
The crowd erupted into chaos, but the most prominent voice was Aimsey beside them, screaming their head off at the public launch of their relationship. Hannah met them with a smile and mouthed, “Congratulations,” to which they both gave her a thumbs up simultaneously and thus laughed at how in sync they were.
As Aimsey was sputtering, asking for an explanation all Pearl offered was a shrug and, “MCC Pride,” then linking arms with Jojo as the duo enjoyed the victory as a team and couple.
