Work Text:
itadori smiled and kissed fushiguro back on his lips. he could feel fushiguro grin into it, and it meant the world to him. for just a moment, love hurt and pained itadori more than he could ever imagine. but the feeling soon faded, and it was nice again, all thanks to fushiguro.
“of course, anything for you.”

ONE YEAR LATER
“yuuji, look up,” fushiguro said, tugging at itadori’s sleeve. “isn’t it beautiful?”
with the sun setting over the horizon, it truly was a breathtaking sight. each color mixes perfectly with one another, lightly dusting the clouds with its warmth. it’s stunning, and itadori would be a fool not to seek out its beauty, but he wouldn’t say the sky is the most beautiful thing here.
“yeah,” itadori said, his eyes still on fushiguro, “it’s beautiful.”
now that sukuna was out of his body and defeated, itadori was finally at peace. he’s still a jujutsu sorcerer and has to deal with the trouble it entails, but it’s definitely a lot easier now. he’s free and fully himself, and he couldn’t be happier.
ever since he became a jujutsu sorcerer, nothing about his life was easy. everyday, he’d wake up and fight for his life, praying that the next morning won’t be his last. itadori had a death sentence hanging over his head, and the knowledge that he did never went away. sometimes he wanted to die, just to finally know what it was like to breathe again.
sukuna was the bane of his existence, everything he hated and yet became in the process. there was so much blood on his, too much for him to handle. itadori was plagued with guilt and grief, and simply being alive became his personal hell. he didn’t feel worthy of living, and even now, there are times where he still feels that way.
“do you want to watch a movie later?” fushiguro asked as he sat up. “we can watch that one worm movie you keep talking about. what is it, the fifth one in the series?”
but as difficult as things were, itadori had fushiguro through it all, his only reason for living. he was the light of his life, the moon and the stars above. he’s everything, fushiguro’s everything.
they’ve been through a lot together, too much even. they’ve lost more than they’ve gained, and there’s never a passing moment where they don’t mourn their loved ones. itadori talks to nanami everyday before he goes to bed, telling him about his day and anything that comes to mind. every now and then, he’ll even visit that bakery nanami loved so dearly.
some nights, fushiguro sleeps in gojo’s room, holding onto that stupid blindfold of his. fushiguro doesn’t cry, but there are times where even he can’t help it. it’s not often, but sometimes he’ll even buy sweets gojo used to always eat. fushiguro’s not too big on sweet stuff, but he eats it all and shares it with others because he knows gojo would have.
there’s never a passing moment where they don’t mourn their loved ones, and sometimes, it becomes too much to handle. but when that happens, they have each other. fushiguro talks to nanami too when he’s with itadori, and itadori sleeps with fushiguro in gojo’s bed. they’ll spend the rest of their lives grieving their losses, but at least they’ll be moving on together.
not a day goes by where itadori isn’t absolutely in awe that he’s actually dating fushiguro. from the adorable dimples by his smile to the way he rants about things itadori doesn’t understand, everything about fushiguro was perfect, and itadori makes sure to love him like he is.
“yeah, i’d like that,” he replied with a wide grin. “you’re gonna hate it though.”
fushiguro chuckled. “yeah, i know, but i told you i’d watch with you eventually.”
though he’s not as forward with his words, fushiguro made sure itadori knew just how much he loved him. nothing in their relationship was one-sided or half-assed, and itadori woke up every morning feeling more loved and cherished than the last.
“well then, i guess i can make some food for us so that you won’t suffer too much,” itadori teased, earning a slight jab from his boyfriend. the two laughed perfectly in sync, their hearts finding each other and intertwining ever-so effortlessly. itadori couldn’t be happier, and it’s all thanks to fushiguro and it always will be.
just then, he sat up. “then let’s hurry up and get inside, i want to get this movie over with.”
itadori nodded as he stood up, walking hand-in-hand with fushiguro back to the school. fushiguro’s hand is a lot smaller and smoother than his, the complete opposite of his calloused ones. they’re so different yet so perfectly made for one another.
“oh”- fushiguro came to a stop, his hand still in itadori’s - “don’t you want to get a picture of the sunset first? you said it was beautiful, right?”
“uhh, yeah, i did.” itadori sheepishly laughed, taking the cap off his camera which he still carries around of course. it was beautiful, but not as beautiful as fushiguro; nothing ever could be.
at first, he aimed in the sky, focusing on this specific cloud covered in different hues and shades. but from the corner of his eye, he noticed something he’ll never get tired of seeing. with a warm smile, fushiguro stared up at the sky, feeling the slight breeze against his skin. he looked so free, so full of life and love, and to itadori, fushiguro is life and love- his light and love.
so of course itadori directed his camera towards fushiguro, taking yet another picture of his heart and soul. there’s no such thing as too much, and he’ll make sure to cherish this one too. itadori would dedicate his whole life to capturing and immortalizing fushiguro’s beauty in this little camera of his, taking pride in every moment he gets to love fushiguro.
“did you just take another picture of me?” fushiguro asked to which itadori enthusiastically nodded. “yuuji, come on! you have too many of me already!”
“actually, i don’t think i have enough,” itadori argued with a huff. “besides, is it so wrong of me to love my boyfriend so much that i can’t stop taking pictures of him?”
fushiguro rolled his eyes. “no, but you could at least take them with me.”
taking itadori’s camera out of his hands, he set it down by some nearby stairs. he gestured for itadori to set a timer since he didn’t want to risk messing something up. itadori didn’t care though when all he could think about was getting to take a picture with his boyfriend.
once the timer was one, itadori rushed back to pose with fushiguro. he pulled him in, his hand slotting perfectly around his waist. they gazed into each other’s eyes, and itadori has never felt more loved than when fushiguro held him so flawlessly in his eyes. not a word was said and yet, their lips met at just the right moment for the camera to capture it.
even when the sky has created such a beautiful blend of colors did itadori only have eyes for fushiguro. nothing else in the world mattered more than him because there wasn’t a world before him. he was everything, fushiguro is everything. itadori used to see the world in black and white, but fusiguro was the color that gave him life; all the color he had.
-
a few days go by, and after a long, tiring mission, itadori wants nothing more than to relax with fushiguro. so here they are, sitting underneath the stars as the moon illuminates their love. itadori’s always felt that the moon complimented fushiguro, the soft glow akin to his beautiful smile. maybe he’s just another lovesick idiot, but everything always reminds him of fushiguro.
“kugisaki said that she wants us to go shopping again with her soon,” fushiguro mentioned, staring up at the sky, “and i think she’s going to bring maki.”
itadori arched his brow. “ok, so like, a double-date? are we still going to be carrying her bags or is that going to be maki-san’s job this time?”
“honestly, knowing her, probably not,” fushiguro replied with a shrug.
“oh, come on! she has a badass girlfriend who’s twice as strong and we still have to carry her bags? god, we’re like her minions or something.”
fushiguro chuckled. “well, you know how she is. she wouldn’t dare make maki lift a finger.”
that’s true. when they weren’t busy fighting for their lives, kugisaki always ranted and gushed about maki, talking about how wonderful and amazing she is. she was head-over-heels in love, and as annoying as it was sometimes, that’s probably how she felt with them. so itadori and fushiguro listened because after all, they are best friends.
rolling his eyes, itadori let out a content sigh. “well, i guess it’s fine then. i’m happy for them, they deserve each other.”
“yeah, they do. besides, sometimes she buys stuff for us when we carry her bags.”
“oh, yeah! do you think i can convince her to get me takoyaki? i’ve been craving some for ages!”
“if you want some, i’ll just take you there,” fushiguro said, looking over at itadori. he smiled ever-so perfectly, and itadori felt like he fell in love all over again.
“uh, yeah,” itadori replied with a nod, feeling his mouth go dry, “yeah, i’d like that.”
fushiguro’s smile widened. “cool. i can’t wait to go with you. it’s been a while since our last date.”
fuck, this wasn’t fair at all. how could fushiguro be so effortlessly smooth? even after they’ve been dating for almost two years, itadori still found it in him to become a blushing mess over everything little thing. who could blame him when fushiguro megumi of all people was his boyfriend? god, this wasn’t good for itadori’s heart at all.
as fushiguro’s gaze shifted back to the dazzling night sky, itadori’s eyes stayed on him, admiring him for all he is. itadori will never get used to be a jujutsu sorcerer, and part of him feels like he isn’t supposed to. but when he gets to wake up with fushiguro in his arms every morning and go to sleep all the same, the days feel a little bit easier to get by.
fushiguro soon notices itadori’s staring and turns back with a soft smile. itadori swears he can see the stars in his boyfriend’s eyes, and they’re always brighter than the ones in the sky.
“what are you thinking about, yuuji?” fushiguro asked, his name sounding like honey leaving his lips. itadori loves him, he loves him more than he could ever express.
itadori smiled, full of love and care. “just how lucky i am to have you.”
taken aback, fushiguro’s eyes widened as a red tint dusts his skin, going all the way up his ears. “you’re such a sap.” he rolls his eyes and laughs, trying to play it off, but itadori can’t possibly ignore just how beautiful he looks in the moonlight.
fushiguro says that, but he soon leans in, pressing a soft kiss to itadori’s cheek. “i’m lucky to have you too. i actually think i’m even luckier.”
itadori gasps. “that is so not true! i’m definitely luckier!”
“nope, i am. i’m the luckiest person in the world because of you. you can’t beat that, yuuji.”
“oh, yeah? well i can at least… do this!” grabbing ahold of fushiguro, itadori clings onto him and peppers light kisses all over his face. each one ends with a loud smack, and itadori would be lying if he said he wasn’t doing that on purpose.
“yuuji!” fushiguro shouted through fits of giggles. “yuuji, stop it, that tickles! yuuji!”
a few more kisses and itadori eventually does stop, keeping fushiguro close to him. his hand rests on fushiguro’s waist while fushiguro lays his head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat. a comfortable silence falls upon them, the kind that only comes when two people understand each other. itadori knows fushiguro through and through, and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
as of right now, they’re only seventeen, not even old enough to be considered adults. they don’t have much freedom, even less than the average teenager given the fact that they’re constantly risking their lives. itadori’s lost so much of his youth, so much of himself, but with fushiguro by his side, he’s slowly rebuilding it all and finding himself all over again.
maybe he’s too young to be thinking this way, but itadori knows that he wants to spend the rest of his life with fushiguro. he doesn’t want to spend a single second knowing that they’re not meant to be. fushiguro has given itadori so much reason and life, and he can’t ever love him enough for it. they may only be seventeen, but itadori will love fushiguro till the end of time.
“hey, megumi?” itadori says quietly, watching as the stars twinkle and shine above.
“mhm?” fushiguro hums. “what’s up?”
is he getting ahead of himself? are they far too young for him to be asking this? maybe, but itadori would rather ask now and get rejected than lose the chance to.
itadori takes a deep breath. “i don’t have a ring or anything- i mean, i don’t have anything actually. but, um, do you think you can ignore all that and still marry me?”
“what?!” in the blink of an eye, fushiguro sits up, staring at itadori like he’s just seen a ghost. fuck, is this a rejection? “do- do you mean that?”
sitting up with him, itadori gulped. “uh, yeah. yeah, i do. will- will you marry me?”
“oh, yuuji!” fushiguro quickly hugged itadori, wrapping his arms around him tightly. “yes, of course i will. i love you so much, yuuji, of course i will.”
holy shit, itadori’s never felt so relieved. “i love you too, megumi, i love you more than anything.”
with the moon and stars as their only witness, the two held each other with all the love in the world, never letting go. they would never, they wouldn’t even dream of it.
“i love you, megumi,” itadori repeated as tears ran down his face, “i love you so much.”
“i love you too, yuuji,” fushiguro said back, crying as well. “i will always love you.”
they may be young and dumb jujutsu sorcerers with nothing to their names, but none of that mattered. right now, they were the only two people in the world with their hearts connected and beating as one. itadori knows that they might not have much time left together, so he’ll make use of it all and love fushiguro in spite of it.
after a while, the two part ways, happily crying together. itadori wipes away his tears, kissing a few away. they’re both a complete sobbing mess right now, and as sweet as it all is, it’s a little funny too. fushiguro laughs first, and because itadori loves it so much, he laughs with him. he laughs because he can, he laughs because time has allowed him to.
“we’re still have to go shopping with kugisaki and maki first,” fushiguro said with a sniffle, wiping the last of his tears away. “i think they want to go this weekend.”
itadori chuckled. “yeah, i figured. we can tell them then. maybe they can even help us pick out a ring. i know kugisaki’s gonna want to at least.”
“well, i guess i wouldn’t mind. we can use some of gojo’s money to buy them too. he mentioned something like that in one of his letters.”
“then it’s set,” itadori said softly, “we’re getting married.”
fushiguro smiled with him. “yeah, we are.”
laying back down, the two keep each other in their arms. the night sky seems even prettier today, or maybe it’s just because they’re together, in love, and married.
“so since you said yes to my proposal, i guess that makes me the luckiest.”
“yuuji!”
