"Aemond, I swear it by the Seven Gods, if you don't get into bed, I will deny you sex!"
Aemond would have scoffed if he didn't feel so unwell. That was one of the sad perks of losing an eye : the phantom pains were there and sometimes, migraines could settle in so quickly it aborted any drop of energy trying to fuel his body. Today was one of those days where it hit him like a truck. His head felt like lead, about to split open any second. The light was hurting his good eye, he felt nauseous and so exhausted he wondered how he could still move his body.
Except that he could not rest.
He was a man.
He was an alpha on top of it.
He was supposed to ignore it, to power through. His misfortunes didn't interest anyone; people suffered more than he did.
And today, more than ever, he had to push through.
Because Aegon was pregnant.
His omega was carrying their third pup, his omega was taking care of their twins, he was doing the hardest work of all. His job was to make his life easier.
What kind of alpha didn't ease his omega's life?
He remembered all too well their mother's last pregnancy and how their sire didn't help her. Of course, being rich, they had help around the house: maids for the cleaning, a cook for the meals, and a nanny to help out with them. Criston was over at their house so often he ended up having a permanent room at the Targaryen manor. Viserys was sick, true. He couldn't do much, true. But he could have been there, he could have made her laugh, he could have listened.
He didn't.
Aemond had only been four at the time and yet, even then, he knew it was wrong : Daddies were supposed to love and help Mommies.
"I have too much to do." He weakly complained
His hands on his hips, his partner scoffed.
"Yes, you have much to do : staying in bed, sleeping or resting."
"Aegon, I have a lot to do! There's the nursery to set up! The crib to rebuild! There are things in the attic I need to take down!"
"I can do all of that."
"You can't."
"I am pregnant, not sick."
"This is dangerous, what if you fall? What if you hurt yourself?"
He couldn't help staring at his brother's small bump. The idea of something happening to their pup or his omega was killing him inside.
"If you want to do it by yourself, you'll do it in a few days. This little one isn't coming out tomorrow."
"Aegon..."
"And if I want to take stuff out of the attic, I can call one of my friends."
Leon, Eddard and Martyn all lived close to their neighborhood. Jaehaerys and Jaehaera loved them and they were adored in return by their uncles of heart. Aemond had been wary of them but after getting to know them, he had realized they were genuine. Their friendship for Aegon was real, their affection for the twins was sincere. And they tried to be his friends too, just because Aegon was their brother.
"The pups need a rested dad. A healthy dad. And I need a healthy partner." The omega said softly. "So you stay in bed. Whatever work you have to do will wait. If there's an emergency, I know who to call. A good alpha knows when he has to rest because a sick or exhausted alpha is a danger to his omega and his pups."
Aegon gently captured his lips. Aemond could feel he hated the words he had just uttered but they were needed. This was the only way for him to understand. He brushed his nose against his, kissing him again.
"You'll be good? Or do I have to be severe?" The older Targaryen joked
"I'll be good. But come to me or wake me up if there is anything."
The expecting man sighed but never lost his smile.
"You really are stubborn. Now I know where Jaehaerys gets that from."
"As if you weren't stubborn yourself."
"Now, close your eye, try to rest. I'll close to curtains and I'll make sure the kids aren't too noisy."
"Don't. Let them be kids. They don't have to tiptoe around me."
"True. But they can also be kids while learning to be considerate of their dad's health."
"Am I still denied sex?"
Aegon laughed.
"Well, if it can help your migraine. I'll be your pretty nurse, ready to take a sample. Now, sleep."
And sleep, he did.
When he woke up, while his head was still hurting, it wasn't anything that couldn't be defeated with a pill.
