Chapter Text
Everyone thinks that Tobias Eaton had no friends in school, but do you really think someone can go unnoticed for years?
This is the story of Tobias’s only friend in school—an Amity girl named Riley. She was a year younger than Tobias.
She knew everything about Tobias—about his father, his mother, everything.
She was allowed to go to Tobias’s house because Marcus loved her, and Tobias loved having her over because she always put Marcus in a good mood.
When Tobias left, she had no one because Toby—her nickname for him—was her only friend. She wasn’t allowed to go to Visiting Day because she wasn’t family, but that didn’t stop her, of course.
Riley walked around the compound, after sneaking in, of course, looking for Tobias. She knew he wouldn’t go by his real name; he would want to leave the past behind him.
So, she couldn’t ask anyone where he was—she just wandered aimlessly. She was about to start describing him to people at this point, but then she saw him. He was talking to another Dauntless member. She ran up to him and tapped his shoulder.
"Heyyyy." I smiled at him when he turned around, but instead of saying hi, he just stood there in shock.
"Wow, I feel so welcomed," I said sarcastically.
"How did you even get in?" he asked, still looking at me confused.
"You’d be surprised how easy it is to bribe people," I said nonchalantly.
He scoffed.
"Hi, I’m Zeke," said the guy next to Tobias.
"Four never told me he had a sister," he said, looking me up and down. I was wearing a red shirt tied up with a hairband, along with a knee-length orange skirt.
"Four?" I said. "That’s your name here? A number?" I laughed.
"You know his real name?" Zeke asked, a puzzled look on his face.
I laughed a little. "I know every single thing about him."
"And you will not tell anybody a single thing," Four said, shoving me and Zeke apart.
"Oh, of course not," I said, half-sarcastically, rolling my eyes.
"And by the way, I’m not his sister. I am way too hot to be related to him."
"Alright, tour time," Four said, pulling me away.
"I’m Riley, by the way!" I yelled at Zeke as Four basically dragged me away.
He pulled me into a hallway, then just stood there, looking at me intimidatingly.
"Did you bribe an officer?" he asked, looking at me intently.
"Of course not," I scoffed. "I snuck in," I said, smiling at him innocently.
"Before you get mad, you should give me the chance to give you someone else to be mad at."
"Like who?" he asked, glancing around us.
"Marcus still tries to talk to me. Mhm. Be mad at that."
He scoffed. "Of course, he would do that," Four grumbled.
"Well, let’s not dwell on that. Give me a tour. Come on." I grabbed his wrist and pulled him toward a random hallway. He chuckled a little before walking ahead of me.
We spent the rest of the day together, and I left at sunset. I had tried to prolong my stay, but Four had training tomorrow, so I had to leave. At least I stayed away from Amity as long as I could, I thought.
As I walked into my little house on the edge of Amity, I sighed loudly, falling onto the couch.
"Where have you been?" a voice said.
I jumped from the couch, only to be met by my crazy ex-boyfriend, Liam, at the door.
"Oh shit," I thought. "MOM!" I yelled, keeping my eyes on Liam.
He chuckled. "There’s a meeting tonight, remember?" he said, smirking a little.
"Now, where were you?" he asked again, stepping closer to me.
My breath hitched in my throat. "It’s Visiting Day," I said quietly.
"Oh? You have someone to visit?" he said, taking another step closer.
He doesn’t know about Tobias. "Yes, I do," I responded. I tried to sound strong, but I was scared of him, and he knew it.
He gripped my shoulder. "Let’s go," he said plainly.
I scoffed. "I’m not going anywhere with you," I said, ripping my shoulder away.
"Oh, hell, you’re not," he growled, pushing me back onto the couch.
~~~
He tried to kiss me, but I twisted my head away. "Stop," I said, trying to push him off.
It was no use—he was at least a foot taller than me. He grabbed my hands and pinned them above my head. As he tried to kiss me again, he grabbed my jaw with his other hand. I tried to shake it off, but I couldn’t.
"You are mine, okay?"
"You don’t get to visit anyone."
He moved down to my neck, and the hand that was holding my jaw slipped up my shirt. Tears formed in my eyes, so I closed them, trying to block out what he was doing, but I still felt and heard everything.
The unbuckling of his pants.
Him slipping off mine.
And what happened next.
That day went from one of my best to the worst of my life in seconds.
He left me half-naked on the couch. My mom got home early and found me. She glanced at me before scoffing and walking off.
"What a slut," I heard her say before the slam of her bedroom door.
I crawled to my room and got in my bed, but I didn’t sleep. I couldn’t.
I stared at my ceiling all night. And the next. And the next. And the next.
I was numb.
