Work Text:
She left him.Pin, the person he’d helped for so long, carried through multiple challenges, dug to the centre of the earth for, left him hanging in his one time of need.
Her image painted the sky red.All he could see was red, both figuratively and literally. Why?Was he not good enough? Was all of that suffering for nothing?
He would mourn, but would it really be worth it, if she was willing to throw away everything they had for the sake of stopping FreeSmart?A team that now had just a single person keeping it together?
He looked up at the stars solemnly.
…
Hey, what’s that?He noticed something fall to the ground through the cracks in the trees. He begrudgingly slipped through to get a closer look.
Oh.Oh my god.
Book’s remains lay on the ground in front of him.Of course, everybody dies on the show quite often, it was a regular occurrence, but it was still a sickly sight. If seemed as though she’d been teared apart.
God, just how desperate was Pin to punish FreeSmart?Of course, most of the members were quite snarky, but Book had been an exception. She didn’t deserve this.
…and you know what?He was going to avenge her.
He ran as fast as he possibly could back to the recovery center. He felt his fingers shaking as he typed in the letters.B.O.O.K.He cranked as fast as he could.
“Oof!”she fell out of the recovery centre’s drop off point.”Ugh, where am I…”
She glanced around curiously and her eyes landed on Coiny.
“Oh!Uh, how come you’re here?”
“I recovered you.”he answered truthfully. She noticed how his cheery demeanour had completely crumbled and glanced at him worryingly before standing up.
She straightened her pages as she got up,”Oh, uh, thanks.May I ask why though? You were never one to like FreeSmart.”
“I…I guess I just felt bad after last challenge.Compared to the rest of FreeSmart, you never really did anything to Pin, but regardless, she still did… whatever she did to you up there.”
“Oh…right.”
She glanced up thoughtfully for a moment before continuing to speak,”Well, yeah, I guess she’s just desperate to get back at Pencil, hah…but…how come you’re so upset?”
Coiny recalled how she had been running up the tower during the event of his betrayal. She must not have seen what happened.
“Are you sure you really wanna hear about this?I’ve been playing against you this whole time, Y’know.”
“I know, but that’s because we’ve been on different teams.I don’t think you really had anything against me, Coiny.”she kneeled down and gestured for him to sit next to her,”Now can you come talk about it?”
He crossed his arms and sat down next to her,”Fine.”

…
“Pin just completely abandoned me.I got caught onto the grappling hook, and she just left me to fall.I get we’re on different teams, but I helped her so much, y’know?I thought that she would have the heart to help me just this once, but she just walked away.”
Book nodded,”Yeah, I get that…Pencil never really helped me out, even when I tried my best to please her. But…you can atleast win for yourself now! That’s what I should probably do too…”she smiled and nudged him lightly.”And you atleast know you’re not alone in that feeling!”
Hm.Win for himself?Like how Needle said she would?
“Huh, win for myself…yeah, that’s a great idea!I can still have friends like Needle, and…maybe not Pin, and…You!But I can still also win because *I* want to!Thanks, Book!”he gave her a small side hug.
“No problem!…Wait, friends?I made a new friend!”she smiled giddily.
Well, that’s one less thing for Coiny to worry about. He isn’t alone…atleast, not anymore! :)
