After a long day of tearing apart the hills in search of a Chaos Emerald, Tails finally found what he was looking for.
Exhausted, and having found no traces of anyone else in the area aside from the occasional Flicky type animal, he thought the coast was clear to take a little nap.
So, he found a nice tree in an off the beaten path spot to curl up under, and headed to sleep, the Emerald stashed away safely in the thick fur of his tails. After all, who'd check in there?
...Unknown to him, (and really, it wasn't his fault for not noticing a literal spy was tailing him...) Rouge had been watching him ever since he got his hands on the Chaos Emerald, just waiting for her chance to swipe it.
And she finally had her chance.
She waited until he fell asleep, and then waited some more just to be safe, before creeping up to the sleeping fox.
"Clever hiding spot foxboy... If I hadn't been watching, I might not have checked in these things." She whispered to him, despite knowing he was asleep, and carefully reached her hand into his fur.
...He let out a purr.
She jolted back slightly, thinking she woke him up... But sure enough, he was still fast asleep.
She (even more carefully) reached back in, her searching drawing more purrs from him.
It was... quite cute.
Shaking away that thought, (and the thought about how soft his fur was,) she finally found the Chaos Emerald, and pulled it out of his tail, holding it up pridefully, admiring the way it shone in the rapidly fading evening sunlight...
She stuffed it away in her pocket, and turned back to Tails.
"Thanks for the free gem, sweetie..." She tauntingly remarked, ready to fly off with her spoils... but something in her just kinda... stopped.
Just stared at him.
He'd curled up further into himself, and was softly snoring...
He looked so cozy.
...When was the last time she had a good night's sleep?
Admiring his sleeping form, her brain turned off.
She glanced back at the setting sun, glanced around his isolated spot...
And got down on the ground, crawling up beside him.
She looked at him closely, waiting for him to wake up... But he didn't.
Though, he seemed to subconsciously shift towards her a little...
She looked around once more, and before she really knew what she was doing, found herself cuddling up to him, gently resting her head on his fluffy chest.
She'd just stay there for a minute, that's all. She deserved a nice rest after a job well done. Besides, what better victory than using your opponent as a pillow?... Or some other excuse.
As the sun disappeared over the horizon, shadows growing heavier over the two of them, she found her eyelids growing heavier in turn...
She allowed her head to relax further into his chest, and her eyes to drift closed...
'Just a minute, that's all...' She reminded herself internally. 'It's just... really cozy...'
...
Tails woke up awhile later, to find that, despite very clearly going to sleep alone, in an isolated corner of whatever Hill Zone he was currently in...
Rouge the Bat of all people was cuddled up to him like a needy kitten, stolen Chaos Emerald visibly poking out of her pocket as she slept peacefully...
...
