Yeonjun was, simply put, a menace.
A persistent, cheerful, utterly clueless menace that smelled absolutely delicious.
Soobin had never met a human who made his instincts go feral the way Yeonjun did. The first time they met, it took everything in him not to lunge forward, sink his fangs into the boy’s neck, and devour him. His scent is just so sweet, warm, intoxicating, and it clungs to him like a cruel temptation, like he was made to be prey.
And yet, Yeonjun was the one chasing him.
“Good morning, Soobin!” Yeonjun beamed as he plopped into the seat beside him in class, completely oblivious to the way Soobin stiffened. “Did you sleep well?”
Soobin barely glanced at him. “I don’t sleep.”
“Right, vampire stuff,” Yeonjun mused, propping his chin on his hand, grinning. “That’s kinda cool.”
It wasn’t. And Soobin didn’t need Yeonjun to think he was cool. He needed the human to stay far, far away from him before he lost the last shred of control he had.
But Yeonjun never got the memo. He followed Soobin around like a lost puppy, chatting his ear off, inviting him to eat (as if that wasn’t ironic), asking him to hang out after school. Soobin rejected every attempt, keeping his distance, acting cold. But Yeonjun never took it seriously.
“Why do you always avoid me?” Yeonjun pouted one day after Soobin dodged him in the hallway. “Do you hate me or something?”
Soobin sighed. “It’s not about you,” he muttered, though that wasn’t entirely true. It was definitely about Yeonjun and his infuriatingly irresistible scent.
“Well, I like you,” Yeonjun declared. “And I don’t care if you’re a vampire. You’re cool, and I wanna be friends.”
Soobin nearly groaned. Friends? Yeonjun had no idea the kind of danger he was in. He was poking at a beast, tempting fate, and Soobin knew it was only a matter of time before something snapped.
So he left.
Disappeared for the weekend, retreating to his cabin deep in the forest where no humans could bother him. It was the only place he could think clearly, away from temptation. Away from Yeonjun.
But fate, it seemed, wasn’t on his side.
Soobin was resting, enjoying the solitude, when he felt it...something's wrong. The scent hit him first, unmistakable even through the trees.
Yeonjun.
His stomach twisted in dread. He couldn’t be here. He wouldn’t be stupid enough to follow Soobin into the forest....right?
Well no. Yeonjun would be that stupid.
A spike of panic shot through Soobin as he bolted out of the cabin, moving faster than any human eye could see. He needed to find Yeonjun now.
Then he saw it...Yeonjun’s phone, abandoned in the middle of the forest. Yeonjun nowhere to be seen at the sight.
A cold fear gripped him. He moved even faster, tracking the familiar scent until—
A low growl rumbled in his chest.
Yeonjun was there, limp and unconscious, held in the grasp of another vampire. Fangs were sunk deep into his neck, fresh blood trickling down his pale skin.
Soobin snapped.
With a feral snarl, he lunged, yanking the vampire off Yeonjun and throwing them back. His fangs bared, his eyes gleaming red with pure rage. “He’s mine,” Soobin growled, his voice laced with a possessiveness that startled even himself.
The other vampire sneered. “He smells divine. You’re a fool for not taking him for yourself.”
Soobin didn’t give them a chance to say another word. He attacked, vicious and fast, knocking them away before they could retaliate. By the time they disappeared into the shadows, Soobin was already scooping Yeonjun into his arms, his heart hammering with a panic he hadn’t felt in centuries.
The boy was too pale. His pulse, weak.
Soobin wasted no time getting him back to the cabin.
—
Yeonjun woke up to warmth.
His head throbbed, his body weak, but the first thing he noticed was how warm and comfortable he was. Blinking, he found himself wrapped in thick blankets, a soft fire flickering nearby. The cabin smelled of wood and something distinctly Soobin.
And then he realized, there he was, Soobin was hovering over him.
The vampire’s usual cold demeanor was gone. His brows were furrowed, eyes stormy with something unreadable.
“You’re awake.” Soobin exhaled like he’d been holding his breath for hours.
Yeonjun groaned, shifting slightly. “What… happened?”
“You almost died,” Soobin hissed, his voice sharp with frustration. “What the hell were you thinking, following me into the forest?”
Yeonjun blinked, still groggy. “I… wanted to know where you were going…”
Soobin ran a hand through his hair, clearly trying to contain his emotions. “You’re an idiot,” he muttered, but his voice lacked its usual coldness.
A small smile tugged at Yeonjun’s lips despite everything. “You’re worried about me.”
Soobin stiffened. He wanted to deny it. Wanted to push Yeonjun away again. But the image of him lying unconscious, vulnerable, nearly gone just shattered every wall Soobin had built.
“…Of course, I’m worried,” he admitted, voice barely above a whisper.
Yeonjun’s heart skipped. He looked up at Soobin, noticing the way his eyes softened, the way his hand hovered near Yeonjun’s, hesitant but there.
“You don’t hate me,” Yeonjun murmured, a little dazed.
Soobin let out a breathy laugh, shaking his head. “I was never avoiding you because I hated you, Yeonjun.” He hesitated, then added, “I was avoiding you because you make me lose control.”
Yeonjun tilted his head. “What do you mean?”
Soobin leaned in slightly, his voice low. “You smell… irresistible. It’s dangerous for me to be around you. I didn’t want to hurt you.”
Yeonjun stared at him for a long moment, before suddenly grinning. “So you do like me.”
Soobin groaned. “That is not what I said.”
“You’re all ‘stay away, it’s too dangerous,’ but the moment I actually get hurt, you’re running through the forest to save me, worrying about me, taking care of me,” Yeonjun pointed out smugly. “Sounds like you really care about me, Soobin.”
Soobin wanted to argue, but the words wouldn’t come. Because Yeonjun was right.
With a frustrated sigh, he finally muttered, “You’ve got me wrapped around your damn finger, don’t you?”
Yeonjun beamed, despite his exhaustion. “Yep.”
Soobin shook his head, exasperated, but a small, fond smile tugged at his lips. He reached out, brushing his fingers lightly over Yeonjun’s wrist, feeling the faint pulse beneath his skin.
“You’re mine now,” Soobin murmured, almost to himself.
Yeonjun’s breath hitched slightly, eyes widening. “…Yours?”
Soobin met his gaze, eyes dark with something unreadable. “You drive me insane, Yeonjun. But I can’t let you go.”
Yeonjun smiled softly, reaching up to touch Soobin’s hand. “Good,” he whispered. “Because I wasn’t planning on leaving.”
For the first time, Soobin didn’t try to push him away.
Soobin exhaled deeply, running a hand through his hair as he stared at Yeonjun, who was now lying comfortably in the blankets. The tension from earlier had faded, leaving only a lingering warmth between them.
Yeonjun, still slightly dazed, suddenly let out a dramatic sigh.
“You know,” he started, voice laced with fake annoyance, “if I had to get bitten by a vampire, I’d much rather it be by a handsome one like you.”
Soobin blinked before a chuckle escaped him. “Oh?”
Yeonjun nodded, completely serious. “Yeah. But instead, I got bitten by some random creep. So unfair.”
Soobin let out an amused hum, tilting his head. “You’re upset that I wasn’t the one to bite you?”
Yeonjun shrugged. “I mean… if I had to choose, you’d be my top pick.”
“Yeonjun... you're unbelievable. You /almost/ became a vampire’s dinner."
Yeonjun blinked. "Yeah. Crazy!"
Soobin’s eye twitched.
Yeonjun stretched, sighing. “Well, at least it wasn’t some ugly old dude who bit me—”
Soobin growled.
Yeonjun snickered. “What? You jealous?”
Soobin’s glare sharpened. “Jealous? Of what?”
Yeonjun smirked, eyes twinkling. “That I got bitten by another vampire before you did.”
Soobin froze.
Yeonjun grinned, clearly enjoying the way Soobin’s ears turned red.
“Oh my god,” Yeonjun gasped dramatically, clutching his chest. “You are jealous—”
“I will bite you right now if you don’t shut up,” Soobin warned.
Yeonjun wiggled his eyebrows. “Ooohh~ is that a threat or a promise?”
Soobin groaned. “I hate you.”
Yeonjun just grinned.
Soobin rolled his eyes, but the corner of his lips curled up. “You’re ridiculous.”
Yeonjun pouted. “I’m just saying! if I was gonna die, I would’ve liked to at least have some control over it.”
Soobin was still grinning when Yeonjun sighed again, this time softer. His fingers played idly with the blanket before he mumbled absentmindedly, “Also… I got scared thinking it was the end for me when I haven’t even been kissed before…”
The words slipped out before Yeonjun could stop them.
Silence.
The realization hit him too late, his eyes widening in pure horror as he slowly turned to Soobin.
Soobin, on the other hand, had completely frozen.
A beat passed. Then another.
And then—
“Oh really?” Soobin’s grin turned absolutely wicked.
Yeonjun’s face burst into flames. “Forget I said that!” he blurted, quickly pulling the blanket over his head in embarrassment.
Soobin laughed. A real, genuine laugh that sent shivers down Yeonjun’s spine. He reached forward, gently tugging the blanket down just enough to reveal Yeonjun’s very red face.
“You’ve never been kissed??” Soobin teased, his voice dripping with amusement. “How adorable.”
Yeonjun groaned, covering his face with his hands. “I’m adorable?? You literally almost killed me five minutes ago.”
Soobin leaned in slightly, his smirk widening. “Well, if you really wanted a first kiss before dying…” He tilted his head, his eyes dark with mischief. “How about I give you one now? As a reward for staying alive.”
Yeonjun’s breath hitched.
Soobin was too close. Too smug. Too tempting.
“Y-you’re messing with me,” Yeonjun stammered, looking anywhere but Soobin’s face.
Soobin only grinned, lifting a hand to brush a stray strand of hair from Yeonjun’s forehead. “Am I?”
Yeonjun swallowed hard, his heart hammering. He hated how flustered he was, hated how much he wanted to say yes.
“…You’re so unfair,” he muttered under his breath.
Soobin chuckled, eyes twinkling with amusement. “I know.”
And then, without warning, he leaned in and pressed the softest, barely-there kiss to Yeonjun’s forehead.
It was gentle, teasing, yet somehow warm.
Yeonjun’s eyes widened, his entire body going stiff.
“There,” Soobin murmured against his skin, pulling back just enough to meet Yeonjun’s wide-eyed stare. “That’ll do for now.”
Yeonjun’s brain short-circuited. “F-for now?”
Soobin smirked. “If you stay alive a little longer, maybe I’ll give you a real one.”
Yeonjun groaned, shoving his face into the blanket again.
Soobin just laughed.
__
Soobin had no idea how his peaceful, secluded break from the human world had turned into… this.
He sighed, rubbing his temples as he watched Yeonjun curl up on the couch, clutching a blanket around himself like a burrito, eyes glued to the laptop screen.
Disney movies.
Soobin cant believe he was forced to sit through animated films about talking animals and singing princesses.
He should’ve never given Yeonjun access to his laptop.
Soobin rolled his eyes, arms crossed. “This is ridiculous.”
Yeonjun didn’t even look at him, too focused on the screen. “Shhh, Soobin, this is important.”
“It’s a children’s movie,” Soobin deadpanned.
“Monster’s Inc. is not just a children’s movie,” Yeonjun corrected dramatically, voice filled with passion. “It’s an emotional masterpiece about friendship, corporate corruption, and the power of laughter over fear!”
Soobin just stared at him blankly. “It’s about a blue furball and a walking eyeball.”
Soobin exhaled, shaking his head. “You humans cry over the dumbest things—”
A sudden sniffle made him freeze.
He turned his head slowly, narrowing his eyes at Yeonjun, who was—without a doubt—crying.
“…Are you serious?” Soobin muttered.
Yeonjun wiped his nose on his sleeve, sniffling harder. “It’s so sad!!”
“It’s Monster’s Inc.,” Soobin said flatly.
“Boo had to say goodbye to Sulley!” Yeonjun wailed.
Soobin sighed deeply, rubbing his face with his hands. “I literally saved your life, and this is what breaks you?”
“You don’t get it...” Yeonjun sniffled dramatically.
“You’re a cry baby,” he muttered.
Yeonjun only sniffled harder, wiping his tears with the blanket.
—
Soobin thought he had seen it all. But nothing NOTHING could have prepared him for Yeonjun’s ridiculous requests
“I’m not sleeping next to you,” Soobin said, firmly standing his ground.
Yeonjun pouted from under the covers, eyes big and pleading. “But what if a vampire sneaks in and kidnaps me in my sleep?”
Soobin raised a single eyebrow. “I’m a vampire, Yeonjun'."
“Exactly!” Yeonjun pointed at him dramatically. “If you sleep next to me, no other vampire might try anything!”
“Yeonjun, you are the only idiot who would willingly come near a vampire.”
“But what if—”
“I’m not sleeping next to you.”
Yeonjun groaned, flopping onto his side in defeat. “You’re so cold.”
Soobin smirked. “I am a vampire, after all.”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever,” Yeonjun muttered, curling deeper into the blankets.
Soobin shook his head. He turned to leave but stopped when he heard a soft mumble.
“…But you’d protect me if anything did happen....right?”
Soobin glanced back at Yeonjun.
The human was already half-asleep, breathing soft and slow, but there was something so… trusting about the way he lay there, completely vulnerable.
Soobin didn’t answer. He simply sighed and quietly sat on the chair beside Yeonjun’s bed, watching over him.
—
Having to deal with Yeonjun in his cabin is such an experience he must say. The annoying human kept asking too many questions and won't leave him alone.
“So, do you sleep in a coffin?”
Soobin closed his book. Slowly.
“No.”
Yeonjun hummed thoughtfully. “Do you, like… turn into a bat?”
“No.”
“Can you see yourself in the mirror?”
“Yes.”
Yeonjun gasped. “Oh my god. Wait—do you sparkle in the sun?!”
Soobin glared.
Yeonjun burst out laughing. “Okay, okay, I’ll stop.”
Soobin sighed, rubbing his temples. “You ask too many questions.”
Yeonjun grinned. “I just wanna know more about you.”
Soobin stared at him for a moment.
This is the difference between Yeonjun and everyone else.
Humans either feared him or worshiped him. No one ever just… wanted to know him.
Soobin looked away, huffing. “Whatever.”
But deep down… he felt oddly warm.
Yeonjun is the brat Soobin can’t just get rid off.
Soobin had tried.
He had really tried to keep Yeonjun at a distance.
But somehow, the stubborn human had completely wormed his way into Soobin’s life and he wasn’t leaving anytime soon.
Yeonjun was bright, annoying, incredibly persistent, and absolutely ridiculous.
But he made Soobin’s days a little more interesting.
Made his nights a little less lonely.
And despite how much Soobin pretended to be annoyed, the truth was… he didn’t want Yeonjun to leave. Soobin realized he was completely, hopelessly obsessed with him.
He wouldn’t tell Yeonjun that, though.
It would definitely boost his ego.
Soobin smirked to himself, watching as Yeonjun dramatically argued with the TV screen about some animated movie.
Yeah.
This brat was his problem now but he doesn't mind having Yeonjun all to himself.
