Chapter Text
"There's something unwholesome about a Chantry after dark." Neve said, "It's barely tolerable in the day time" She kicked a book under a pew and shuddered.
Rook hummed in agreement, bobbing their head side-to-side - "The statues' eyes follow you wherever you go"
"Really, the worst thing about these places is the smell of that incense." Emmrich sniffed loudly before pulling a handkerchief from his interior coat pocket. "This place must be an orchestra of sneezes and wheezes during mass…"
"Intel said the Revered Father disappeared from this chamber." Neve said, opening a wardrobe and shutting it when all she found were robes and socks.
"Well that would make sense," Emmrich said, he pulled back a heavy curtain and peering out the leaded glass window. "That's the clergy memorial garden is it not?"
"Correct." Rook said, joining him at the window and looking out for a moment.
"And this wing of the monastery is new?" Emmrich asked, pointing from the window to the polished marble floor and three-quarters done mural on the wall across.
"Correct. Opened six months ago." Neve said, crossing her arms.
"Well there we go I guess." Emmrich said with a shrug.
"Oh they didn't." Neve said with a sigh.
"I believe they did my dear detective." Emmrich said, eyebrows furrowed and moustache pinched as he pulled his mouth tight.
Neve shook her head an swore.
"What?" Rook asked, looking between then both. "What did who do?"
Just at that moment a howling spirit tore its' way out of the pulpit and sped down the aisle.
"The disrespected body has caused an angry spirit and it is now haunting this room, so anyone daring to walk over its' grave will feel it's wrath." Emmrich said, eyes now alight with the tell-tale green of Nevarran necromancy. "I'll put it to rest for now, but it will only hold so long, they'll have to exhume him and put the body to rest properly."
A ring of sickly green burned into the marble around Emmrich's feet, his hands moving with precision as he seemed to tear and stitch up the air in front of him.
As he chanted the stepped towards the screaming apparition it stepped back until it retreated back into the ground with a supreme howl and like a pop of gaatlok had gone off.
The room smelled sour but acrid and sounded like a clap around the ears.
"I'd suggest running, dears." Emmrich said - eyes losing their glow and a single lock of hair now in front of his eyes. "I'm only mostly sure that will hold it."
At the other side of their journey running through the Chantry's gardens - dodging statues left and right.
"I'd say we did an excellent job." Rook said. "Mystery solved."
Emmrich nodded and pat Rook on the back.
"Indeed!" He cheered.
"Oh the papers are going to eat this story up." Neve said, a wide smile on her face as as she fixed her hair. "Building over a graveyard?
"Oh come now, Neve dear - spirit of revenge in an Imperial Chantry hall? May as well report spoon found in kitchen!" Emmrich said with a giggle.
