Chapter 1: Kisses, Kisses And More Kisses

Chapter Text

Gallows Manor was quiet.

In the main living room, the lights were dimmed and a movie lit the room with soft, warm glows.

Maka and Kid were curled up on the huge couch, covered by a thick blanket. Maka had her head resting on Kid's shoulder, and he had one arm around her shoulder, holding her close.

The sound of the movie filled the room, but Maka was barely paying attention to it, no, she was more attentive to something else, or rather to someone else.

She couldn't take her eyes off Kid.

It wasn't the first time she had stared at him, but for some reason, at that precise moment, she felt an uncontrollable surge of affection bubbling in her chest.

Kid was completely focused on the screen, his golden eyes were perfectly illuminated by the light of the film, his brow was furrowed, and he mumbled small comments about the idiocy in the actions of some of the characters in the film.

Maka felt her heart melt at the sight.

He was too cute, he was too perfect, he was too much hers.

And before she could even stop herself, she just... exploded.

—"Mmf-!"— Kid let out a choked sound as suddenly Maka launched herself at him and began covering his face with kisses.

One on his cheek. Another on the forehead.

One on the temple. Another on the jaw.

Kisses and more kisses, kisses that were quick, soft, full of affection and devotion.

—"M-Maka... What are you...?"— Kid tried to ask, but his voice was lost in more kisses.

She said nothing, just continued, leaving a shower of kisses on his skin, each one more insistent than the last. Her lips moved to his other cheek, his nose, his jaw again... anywhere she could reach she would leave a kiss

Kid was in complete shock but not because he didn't like it.

Oh, no.

He was living for this.

When the onslaught of kisses finally stopped, Maka pulled away to look at him...and his expression was enough to make her chuckle under her breath.

Kid was red. His golden eyes were narrowed, his lips half-open, and he had the goofiest, most love-struck smile Maka had ever seen in her life.

—"You're... wow, amazing... beautiful... divine angel... blessing in my life... star in my sky...."— murmured Kid, as if he was in a love trance.

Maka burst out laughing. —"Are you all right?"—

Kid just nodded slowly, still with that silly grin on his face.

Maka shook her head, still laughing, and leaned in to give him one last kiss, this time on the lips, soft and full of tenderness.

When she broke away, she smiled fondly at him before turning back to the screen, acting like if nothing had happened.

But Kid, on the other part... Kid was lost, completely defeated by love.

Still with his face on fire, he gently let himself fall on top of Maka, resting his forehead on her shoulder and wrapping his arms around her like a cat seeking warmth.

Maka's smile grew at his boyfriends cat-like actions. —"Are you going to stay there the whole time?"—

Kid nodded weakly against her shoulder. —"You're too perfect...I can't...process it....."—

Maka laughed softly and ran a hand through his hair, stroking it tenderly. —"You're silly, you know that right?"—

Kid sighed happily. —"Your silly..."—

And so they stayed like that, snuggling, as the movie continued in the background, completely oblivious to everything else except each other's warmth.

Chapter 2: Dangerous Game

Chapter Text

The golden evening light filtered through the windows of the Gallows Manor, filling every corner of the mansion with sun-like touches

Maka and Kid were sitting in the tea room, sharing a quiet moment after studying. Liz and Patty had gone out to do some shopping, leaving a chance for them to be completely alone.

Maka closed her book with a contented sigh and stretched in her seat. Kid, however, wasn't paying attention to studying at all.

No, he was staring at her. Like an idiot in love.

With his elbow resting on the table and his cheek resting on his hand, he was watching her with a dreamy smile, eyes shining with absolute devotion.

Every movement she made, every time she ran a hand through her hair or frowned in concentration, had him completely captivated.

Maka noticed his gaze and arched an eyebrow. -"What?"-

Kid sighed dramatically. -"Nothing..."- he replied in a honeyed voice. -"Just that you're the most amazing person to ever walk this Earth and I feel blessed to breathe the same air as you."-

Maka blinked before letting out a small laugh. -"Since when did you become so over the top?"-

-"Since I fell in love with you, why of course"- he answered without hesitation, holding a hand to his chest as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

Maka felt a slight heat in her cheeks. -"Yeah right, I highly doubt you can make me blush with just phrases like that."-

Kid immediately stood up straight, his infinite love transforming into determination. -"Is that a challenge?"-

-"If you want to look at it that way..."-

The young shinigami stood up so quickly that the chair almost fell backwards. Maka barely had time to react before he rounded the table and knelt beside her, taking her hands in his with an intense gaze, he looked like if he was about to declare his undying love for her.

-"Maka Albarn..."- he murmured, his voice full of tenderness. -"Do you know that every time you smile I feel like my heart explodes into a million pieces of happiness?"-

Maka blinked surprised by his sudden words and actions. -"Huh?"-

-"It's true."- he insisted, leaning closer. -"How can you be so perfect? Your eyes, your hair, the way you frown when you think... You truly are the definition of beauty."-

Maka felt her stomach churn. -"Kid..."-

-"Death, even when you say my name I go crazy!"- he wailed dramatically, holding a hand to his chest as if his heart ached.

-"You're just exaggerating..."-she tried to say with a nervous smile, but Kid wouldn't let her.

He leaned even closer, his face only a few inches from hers. -"I'm not exaggerating, Maka. I'm head over heels in love with you and I'm falling more in love every day."-

Maka's eyes widened slightly. -"Hey-! thats cheating!"-

-"Oh, my dear, I'm not even finished yet."- Kid whispered, and before she could stop him, he took her hand and pressed a kiss against her knuckles, looking at her with absolute adoration.

Maka felt the heat rise to her face at a frightening rate. -"T-That's not fair!"-

Kid smiled triumphantly. -"Oh, could it be? ...Are you blushing?

-"N-No!"-

Kid narrowed his eyes with a sly smile. -"Maka..."- he muttered, in a waythat made her heart beat faster.

-"Wh-What?"-

He lifted a hand and, with infinite gentleness, pushed aside a lock of her hair behind her ear, letting his fingers gently brush her skin. -"Have I told you how you are the most talented most amazing and most important person to me in the whole word?"-

Maka felt her mind collapse.

And then, the Kid made his final move.

He brought one hand to her face and gently leaned her toward him, her lips barely brushing his in a short, sweet, and terribly effective kiss.

When he broke away, his smile was pure adoration.

-"Now tell me, Maka..."- he whispered. -"Who won?"-

Maka, her face completely red, glared at him. -"This was unfair!"-

Kid only smiled innocently. -"Me? Unfair? But how? I only used the power of love."-

Maka snorted and looked away, crossing her arms. -"... Its a tie."-

Kid laughed softly before taking her hand and kissing her again, this time on the cheek. -"As you wish, my love."-

Notes:

Chapter Text

The sunset  wind blew gently over the rooftop of Shibusen, carrying with it the scent of limestone and the residual warmth of the sun that was on the process of setting.

Maka was sitting on one of the elegant wooden benches, clutching a book in her hands, however she wasn't concentrated on reading it as she normally would be.

She was looking at the door to the rooftop, where Kid finally appeared after a few minutes.

He looked exhausted. His posture was still firm, but there was something in his walk that showed his lack of sleep. Barely visible dark circles decorated his golden eyes, and his impeccable uniform had slight wrinkles, as if he had been tugging at his jacket nervously.

-"I'm sorry I'm late."- he said out of breath, bowing his head slightly. -"There was some business I had to attend and..."-

Maka closed the book with a sigh -"I don't care that you're late, Kid. What I care about is that you look like you're going to collapse at any moment."-

He opened his mouth to respond, but Maka raised an eyebrow, daring him to contradict her. Kid sighed with resignation and walked over to sit next to her, he wasn't stupid enough to contradict the blonde.

-"It's nothing serious. Just a little paperwork and meetings, nothing I can't handle."-

-"That's what you always say."- Maka replied, crossing her arms. But you're not invincible, Kid. You need your sleep just as much as the others"-

"-Sleep is a waste of time when there's so much to do. Besides, even if I tried now, I don't have anywhere to go."-

-"Yes, you do."-

Kid blinked, confused. -"Excuse me?"-

-"You can sleep right here."- Maka said matter-of-factly, patting her lap. -"Just lay your head down and rest for a while."-

Kid felt his brain completely reboot. Sleep... on Maka's lap?

His face instantly reddened at the idea.

-"That's not necessary! I don't want to make you uncomfortable, and besides-"-

-"Are you refusing my hospitality, Death The Kid?"- Maka interrupted, her voice dry with a glint of anger in her esmerald eyes.

Kid gulped. -"It's-not that, but...."-

He didn't have a chance to finish his sentence. Maka, with unwavering determination, placed her hands on his shoulders and, with a firm but careful motion, pushed him down until his head was resting in her lap.

Kid felt his heart stop when Maka's warmth enveloped him, her scent of strawberry and chamomile tea filling his senses.

-"M-Maka..." he tried to protest, his voice a nervous whisper.

-"If you keep talking, I'll throw you off the roof."- Maka's tone indicated that she was far from joking.

Kid fell immediately silent.

Maka smirked and began to slide her fingers through his jet black hair gently, massaging his scalp with a gentleness that left him breathless.

To make matters worse -or better- she began humming a low, quiet tune.

Kid felt the tension in his body slowly melt away. His mind, always active, always full of plans and worries, began to cloud with a comforting warmth.

Maka was there.

He was sure of it.

And though his pride told him that he should get up, that he shouldn't give in so easily... exhaustion won the battle.

Within minutes, his eyelids fell heavy and, for the first time in weeks, Kid had the best sleep of his life.

Maka smiled as she watched him breathe slowly.

-"I told you you needed to sleep."-

And with that, she continued to stroke his hair, making sure he rested as long as he needed to.

Notes:

One of my fav things to read about my otps is one of them falling asleep on the lap of the other, such a sweet gesture!

I hc the fact that Kid prolly became kinda workcoholic (is that how you write it in english? I mean when you dont stop working) after he took after his father.

I also think Maka is workalcoholic but I also hc her to be that kind of person who puts other before her just cause of her idea of her being "strong" and such.

Kinda ramble here but I hope you enjoyed the chapter and see you next time!

Chapter 4: Love And Disasters

Summary:

Kid could never have imagined that a date could be so confusing, although when you're dating THE Maka Albarn, confusion was the least you could expect.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Kid never thought a date could be so... confusing.

Not in a bad way, of course. Maka had an energy that completely enveloped him, and even though he had meticulously prepared for everything to be perfect, every time she took the initiative, his carefully structured plan went wrong.

But oh, he could'nt care less, because seeing her smile, seeing her laugh with that pure and sincere emotion, made any trace of stiffness in his being vanish.

After the initial moment when Kid was completely bowled over by how beautiful Maka looked in that summer outfit, the date had started with a walk in a nearby park.

Kid, still anxiouw about wanting to do everything right, walked with a graceful posture, holding one arm slightly outstretched, as if he expected Maka to take hold of him in a formal manner.

However, Maka, without a second's hesitation, intertwined her arm with his and leaned lightly on him. -"This way is more comfortable, don't you think?"-she said with a mischievous smile.

Kid felt his face burn. -"Yes... It truly is...."- He said avoiding her eyes as he coughed to calm his nerves

Maka laughed at his reaction, enjoying seeing him so adorably nervous.

They sat on a bench after a while of walking, enjoying the breeze. Kid pulled a perfectly folded handkerchief from his pocket and meticulously wiped one side of the bench before Maka sat down.

-"You're so refined, you know?"- she commented, amused with a soft chuckle.

-"I just want you to be comfortable, thats all"- he replied, without looking directly at her.

Maka felt a small flutter in her chest. Kid could be so sweet when he wanted to be....

-"By the way, did you like the flowers?"- he asked suddenly, pointing to the bouquet of black roses still in Maka's hands.

She looked at them fondly. -"I loved them! I've never been given anything like this before. They're so... unique."-

Kid sighed in relief. He had done a lot of research before deciding on those specific flowers, wanting them to be something special and different.

-"I'm glad to hear it, they're just as elegant and gorgeous as you are."- A fond smile appeared on his lips as he lovingly looked at her.

Maka blinked, surprised. -"Are you flirting with me, Kid?"-

He tensed his golden eyes opening wide. -"I-I...uh-"

Maka laughed again and, without warning, reached over and planted a kiss on his cheek.

Kid could feel his heart stop even if he knew that was impossible.

-"You're so cute when you get nervous."- she whispered, looking at him with amusement.

Kid couldn't come up with a coherent response. His brain was short-circuited.

Maka smiled, satisfied, and leaned her head on his shoulder.

Maybe this date wasn't going perfectly by Kid's standards....

But to her, it was the best date she'd ever had in her life and she wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

Notes:

I decided to change the title of the story to make it more in line with the theme! This stories are, as the title suggest, Short and Sweets! [And also cause I really like Sabrina Carptender :p]

Not much to say in this one, been feeling sick [damn my Victorian child's defensive system!] So had to do a much simpler one this time. Still a cute one tho!

Chapter 5: (Not So) Subtle Hints

Summary:

Maka has been feeling an huge need for Tender Love Care lately but her own stubborness makes her unable to ask her boyfriend, Kid for cuddles.

So its up to indirects to deliver him the message! That would most centarly work... if Kid wasent completly useless at taking hints.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Maka did'nt think of herself as the type who asked for cuddles. No, of course she wasn't. She was a strong, independent person, completely capable of handling herself.

...Or so she liked to think. Of course she was a strong, indepent person who was completely capable of handling herself but in the last few days, she had been feeling particularly in need of a little TLC.

Perhaps because she had been training too hard, or because the stress of the Academy was starting to get to her. The thing was, every time she was with Kid, her body was screaming for her to snuggle into him and forget about the world for a while.

Of course, she wasn't going to ask for it directly. Maka Albarn didn't do that sort of thing.

So, instead, she decided that her best option was to drop hints to Kid so that he would take the initiative.

The problem was that Kid... didn't get it.

-"Haaah..."- sighed Maka exaggeratedly, plopping down on the couch in Kid's room.

-"Are you all right?"- he asked, looking up from his book with a concerned look.

-"I'm sooooo tired... my shoulders are tense... my back hurts... if only someone could do something about it..."- she said, shooting a quick glance at the Kid before looking away.

Kid nodded slowly. -"Hmn... Perphaps you should do some stretching."-

Maka blinked. -'NO, IDIOT, THAT'S NOT WHAT I WANT!'-

-"Yeah... sure..."-she muttered, puffing out her cheeks slightly in frustration.

She didn't give up. After all, Maka Albarn never gives up even after failing.

Minutes later, after some stretching, Maka settled down next to him and dropped her head on his shoulder in a total "casual" manner.

The shinigami looked at her again, raising an eyebrow. -"Do you want a pillow?"-

Maka almost screamed in despair. -'I DON'T WANT A FUCKING PILLOW, I WANT YOU TO HOLD ME, YOU MORON!'-

She took a deep breath. If she wanted Kid to hold her, she had to be clearer. -"Kid..."- she began, in a tone she hoped sounded subtly pleading.

-"Tell me, my love."- Kid turned to her in with a tender smile.

Maka shivered at the gentle tone of his voice, but quickly pulled herself together. -"It's just... it's cold."-

Kid looked around until his eyes landed on the window -"... But it's spring."-

Maka clenched her fists. -"It doesn't matter, I'm still cold!"-

Kid seemed to think about it for a moment and Maka held her breath. Maybe, just maybe, this time he would finally understand and...

-"Do you want me to close the window?"- The fact that he still turned to her with that oh sweet smile of him did not make it any better.

Maka could feel her soul leaving her body. ‐'SERIOUSLY?!'-

Now she couldn't take it anymore, even her patience had a limit.

She turned to Kid, her cheeks red with frustration, and embarrassment.

-"No, I don't want you to close the window! I want you to hug me, to cuddle me, to spoil me a little, you idiot!"- she sputtered quickly, unable to look him in the eye.

Silence...

Kid blinked a couple of times, clearly surprised and Maka felt like she wanted to disappear right then and there.

But then, something unexpected happened, Kid smiled.

Not a mocking smile, not one of those he used when he felt superior. No, it was a sweet smile, full of affection.

-"Oh... well why didn't you say so before?"-

Maka wanted to shout at him that I HAD, ONLY THAT YOU ARE COMPLETELY USELESS TO UNDERSTAND INDIRECTS, but she didn't have time.

Because, without warning, Kid slipped an arm around her waist and gently pulled her to him. Maka remained leaning against his chest, feeling his warmth envelop her.

-"So my dear Maka wanted cuddles..."- He murmured, stroking her hair tenderly.

Maka hid her face in his chest, completely embarrassed.

-"Shut up!"-

Kid let out a soft laugh and continued to caress her calmly.

-"Okay, okay. But please, at least let me make it up to you for not understanding earlier."-

Maka let herself do it, surrendering completely.

Maybe she didn't have to be so stubborn after all.

Chapter 6: A Breath Together

Summary:

What is the best remedy for a couple of workaholic adults? A bath full of warmth.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

The doors of the Gallows mansion opened with a heavy creak as Kid entered with his shoulders slumped as well as dark circles sagging under his golden eyes and finally his hair, though still neat, it had unruly locks peeking out here and there. His jacket was improperly buttoned-unthinkable for the young shinigami of many years ago.

Maka was waiting for him in the hallway her arms were folded, but instead of greeting him with one of her sermons on self-care, she watched him silently. Her expression hardened with concern, but also with a clear determination.

Kid barely had time to open his mouth before Maka took him by the hand.

-"Come with me."- she said, leaving no room for argument.

-"Maka, I..."- He tried to say.

-"No excuses, you're going to drop dead if you keep this up, you know?"- she cut him off. -"You're a shinigami, yes, but you still have a body and you're pushing it to the limit."-

Kid sighed, he knew he had no argument against that. Ever since his father... left for a better world, he had been busy taking of not only an academy full of new students but also an entire city. It was tiring to say the least

And Maka understood this, she was not one to talk either seeing how she has not stopped working since she started working at the academy as a teacher specialized in the soul's perception.

It was because of this that she led him into the huge private bathroom they both shared. The bathtub, large and deep, was already filled with steaming water with a light lavender scent. Maka had taken the freedom of running the bath while she waited for him, anticipating what he would see when he returned.

kid, on the other hand, blinked, surprised -"A bath?"-

-"Together."- Maka clarified, turning to him with a raised eyebrow. -"You have a problem with that?"-

Kid's surprise quickly turned into a soft smile, tired but genuine. -"Not a single one."-

Without further words, Maka began to undress, with that naturalness and confidence she had always had. There was no longer a trace of the teenage Maka who turned red easily. She was now a woman who knew what she wanted, and what she wanted was to take care of her stubborn fiance.

Kid watched her, not mischievously, but with a look full of tenderness and love, as if each time he saw her was the first time. When she finished, she looked at him expectantly.

-"Are you going to stand there or are you going to join in?"-

-"At your command, darling." he replied, slowly removing his clothes, each garment falling to the floor in a somewhat disheveled fashion.

Maka was already inside the tub when Kid slid in behind her, the warmth enveloping him like a caress. She settled between his legs, resting her back against his chest.

Kid slipped his arms around her waist, sinking his face into the curve of her neck and letting out a long sigh.

-"This is perfect..."- he murmured, his voice still hoarse with exhaustion.

Maka smiled, resting her head against his. -"I can't do your job for you, Kid, but I can remind you that you don't have to carry everything alone."-

He tightened his embrace slightly, like if those words had more effect on him than he wanted to admit.

-"I know I'm not alone."- he whispered. -"I have you."-

Maka raised a wet hand and stroked his cheek, forcing him to lift his head. Her green eyes stared at him. -"Then stop acting like you have to be perfect all the time. I want you, not the idea of a perfect shinigami."-

Kid closed his eyes for a moment, absorbing those words. When he opened them again, his smile was softer, more genuine. -"I promise I'll try."

-"You better, because if you don't, I'll beat the living shit out of you."-

-"That's my Maka, wouldnt want it another way."- he replied with a slight chuckle, gently kissing her bare shoulder.

The bath continued in silence, with Maka occasionally taking water between her hands and dropping it on Kid's shoulders, massaging every tense muscle with her fingers.

He, for his part, merely held her and rested, allowing himself to be vulnerable only with her.

And in that moment, between the warmth of the water, the soothing scent and the comforting weight of Maka's body against his, Kid realized something.

No matter how many responsibilities he carried on his shoulders, as long as he had Maka by his side, he would always find a way to stand on his own two feet.

Together, they could handle anything.

-"I love you."- he whispered.

-"And I love you too."- she answered without hesitation.

And in the warmth of that shared bath, the burdens became a little lighter.

Notes:

Had this idea on my head for a while but due to exams and procrastination I had been leaving it behind UNTIL NOW !!!

Btw in this story they are both adults (Kid is 28 and Maka is 27 respectevely) and they are not doing great work related but at least they have eachother (And their friends too)

Im also working on -another- oneshot if Im lucky and I actually get to work I might finish it for this Sunday! So please look forward to it! :D

Chapter 7: Five More Minutes, My Love

Summary:

A beautiful morning in the life of Maka Albarn and Death The Kid.

On their day off, while Maka wants to make the most of the morning, Kid wants nothing more than to continue hugging his beloved wife for just five more minutes.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Gallows Manor, so solemn and elegant from the outside, seemed another world inside as the first rays of sunshine crept timidly through the windows courtains.

The large bedroom was in semi-darkness, illuminated only by the soft morning glow that tinged the edges of the canopy and the carefully chosen sheets with gold...though now somewhat disorganazed

Beneath the blankets, two figures rested curled up. The new Lord Death, known as Kid to those who still fondly called him by his old nickname, was fast asleep, clinging with one arm to his wife, Maka Albarn, now an expert teacher of soul perception at Shibusen.

Maka was the first one to wake up. She blinked a couple of times, realizing the comfortable, warm entanglement she was in.

The position was a bit strange, her leg was trapped between his and her hair sprawled across the pillow... and her husband's face. She tried to gently push him away.

-"Mmh..."- Kid murmured, pressing her tighter against his chest. His voice was raspy with sleep, and his low tone barely audible. -"Don't go... just five more minutes..."-

Maka felt something inside her melt. It was rare to see Kid in this unprotected state, without the composure he usually carried even in his sleep. But with her... it was different.

-"Kid..."- She whispered, stroking his hair softly. -"You said the same thing ten minutes ago... and then another five before that."-

-"Mmm... But you're warm..."- he replied in an even sleepier voice, burying his face against the curve of her neck.

Maka laughed softly, trying not to make too much noise. She stroked his hair with more intent this time, her fingers sliding through the dark locks.

-"I know today is our day off, but if I don't get up now, you're going to keep saying 'five more minutes' until its time to have dinner."- Maka told him tenderly, turning her head slightly to look at him.

At this, Kid barely opened one eye, just enough to see her with a sleepy but deeply in love expression.

-"And would that be so bad?"- he asked, his smile barely curving his lips.

Maka sighed with tenderness and exasperation. She managed to slowly free herself from the embrace, despite the small whimper of protest kid let out as he felt empty.

She got out of bed in one of her long shirts and stretched a little, before looking at her husband sprawled between the sheets with a pitiful expression.

-"I'll go make breakfast."- she announced, as she headed for the door, not without first giving her husband a little kiss on the forehead. -"If you behave yourself, I'll make you toast with honey and fruit."-

Kid grunted something unintelligible, turning with dramatic slowness to hug the pillow she had left behind -"It's not the same..."- he muttered in a melancholy voice.

Maka laughed again and shook her head before disappearing out the door.

Silence returned in the room, broken only by the chirping of birds in the gardens outside and the soft sound of sheets being pulled as Kid, still half asleep, clung to his wife's pillow as if it were the most precious treasure in the world.

Deep down, he thought with a dreamy smile. -'Five more minutes...and then I'll be looking for her so I can hold her again.'-

Notes:

I have been so sleepy these past days... May really is the worse month for students huh ;n;

Chapter 8: Game Change

Summary:

Maka never considered herself to be flirtatious, sure she could have some moments of feeling romantic but nothing more than a sweet geasture or giving a gift but for some reason she always enjoyed watching her boyfriend, Kid turn just as red as a tomato with any slightest gesture of affection.

Due to this, She probably should have seen this coming and because of this she was now red as a tomato in front of her completely now flirtatious boyfriend.

Chapter Text

Maka never considered herself to be flirtatious, sure she could have some moments of feeling romantic but nothing more than a sweet geasture or giving a gift but for some reason she always enjoyed watching her boyfriend, Kid turn just as red as a tomato with any slightest gesture of affection and ever since they started dating, it had quickly become one of her favorite pastimes.

Holding his hand without warning, suddenly leaning in for a kiss on the cheek, whispering sweet nothings to him while they were in public... it all served to make him blush up to his ears.

But today, something was... different.

She didn't know how or when it happened, but Kid turned the tables, and Maka was left puzzled to say the least.

And well maybe she should have seen it coming when he just send her an invitation to his mansion out of nowhere, not that she complained thought, but maybe she should have after seeing the smug face on Kid when he greeted her inside.

-"Maka..." Kid's voice echoed beside her, whispering to her ear as well as breaking her train thought and before she could even react, she felt his breath brush against her ear. -"Do you know how much I love to see you like this?"-

A shiver ran down Maka's back and her face lit up bright red in just a moment.

-"W-what are you talking about?"- she exclaimed, pulling away abruptly and putting a hand to her ear, as if trying to erase the trace of her breath on her skin.

But Kid just laughed softly, watching her with a look full of tenderness and amusement.

-You're adorable when you're like that," he commented with a lopsided smile, and before Maka could escape, he gently took her hand, intertwining his fingers with hers.

Maka felt her heart pounding. She wasn't used to this, not when she was usually the one in control in this kind of situation.

-"Stop saying weird things..."- she muttered, looking away.

Kid tilted his head in amusement. -"Weird things? Maka, darling, I'm just expressing how much I love you, is that weird?"-

The use of the nickname made her stomach flip and her knees started to feel weak.

-"D-Dumbass! Stop calling me that!"-

The Kid let out a small laugh, but instead of heeding her, he leaned a little closer, close enough so that their foreheads were almost touching. -"All right, my love, whatever you say."-

Maka felt like she was going to explode. -"Stop being so corny! It's not fair when you do it!"-

-"Not fair?"- Kid smiled, leaning even closer until his lips barely brushed the corner of Maka's mouth in a fleeting kiss, tender, but full of intent.

Maka shivered. -"Cheater..."-

-"I'm just having a little fun."- Kid admitted, with a mischievous expression. -"It's always you who plays with my reactions. Now it's my turn, don't you think?"-

Maka glared at him... although her completely red face took away all the threat.

-"I hate you."-

Kid, once again, just smiled and slid a hand up to her cheek, stroking it gently.

-"No, you don't hate me. Actually, Im pretty sure you love this."-

Maka opened her mouth to refute him, but... she couldn't. Because the truth was, even if her brain was about to short-circuit, even if her pride screamed in protest, a part of her... really loved this side of Kid.

And Kid knew it.

-"Cheater..."- she muttered again, but this time, quieter.

Kid laughed, one full of love, and, before she could hide again, he pulled her to him in a warm embrace, placing a soft kiss on the crown of her head. -"Just because I love you, Maka."-

Maka hid her face against his chest, too embarrassed to respond, but her arms wrapped coyly around his waist.

Maybe, just maybe...she could get used to this.
